    Oughta cut the fenders and chassis up and roll that front wheelbase about 8" forward to get the engine behind the front axle line like a Vette/Viper/SLS AMG. I love the single exhaust and performance Y-pipe, though.

    I have full umi under my 83firebird
    5 speed and t tops
    Still running the stock engine with 68k but intake carb headers exhaust and 1.6 rollers.
    Its pretty fun.
    And its 40 year old this year.
    Kinda proud of that.
    Anyway im heading to my first autocross event this sunday.

    Fun stuff - Good day of driving and good to see the underside.
    Full budget '91 RS conv. here with 282,000 mi. Swapped in '92 G92 rearend ($200) Full Hochkis front/rear set ($300) C6 wheels ($100). Just got new box of Wilwoods for front, building 383 from my old '72 Vette, new alum. heads and MSD Atomic FI. Hochkis springs too low, working out bumpsteer. Wish there was a daily driver dropped spindle under $800!

    Nice IROC-Z!!!!
    I'm thinking of auto crossing now that I have time on my hands. My '91 Formula retromod is not exactly set-up for it but it would not take much to get it there.
    One question: Did you reinforce the front subframe where the steering box attached? They are prone to crack when auto crossing with the big tires and stiff suspension.
    Thanks

    • @Brandon-LSX
      @Brandon-LSX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Yes have the front wonder bar reinforced. This car is for sale if that's something you might be interested in. I want to build another one from the ground up for my channel.

      @@Brandon-LSX Awesome! Thanks for the offer. I'm in Canada and custom & federal regulations are a pain. I could never register it and drive it on the road because of all the mods. I've noticed you have the wonder bar. I was more thinking of platting the frame itself around the steering box. The pitman arm leverage on steering box is tremendous and the frame could crack around the steering box bolt holes.

    Man those stock sway bars got to go, I thought the stockers would be good enough as well but we switched to QA1's last year and it completely changed the cars manners on track.

    • @Brandon-LSX
      @Brandon-LSX  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've kinda wondered if there would be much benefit. Thanks for the input I wounder if it's do to the stronger metal and the wear and tare over 45 years on the original bars.

      Not necessarily. Depends which front bar he’s got. If he’s rocking the hollow factory 34mm front bar (you’ll know it by the drain holes near the end links) there’s no aftermarket one that will really improve on that as it’s nearly as stiff if not as stiff as the solid 36mm on later cars and by far the lightest of the factory bars . The rear bar doesn’t matter as much for autox as it can be made up for in spring rate. He does need to match the front struts to the rear konis however. Also looks like the car may be too low. Looks like the front a-arms angled up to the ball joint instead of slightly down. Definitely more places for improvement that a front sway bar. Also since you’re a t-top car I’d double up on the SFC’s. I didn’t see but assume you have perimeter ones now, Alston chassis works sells an inner set as well they market for the convertible cars. The inners will fit any of the body styles, the ‘verts can’t run perimeters.

  • @mrchad97z49

    actually I think the 3rd gen has great capability. but your tires may not.. haha I heard them squealing. But I had a 32 or 35mm Front and rear sway bar from LMperfornance on my 1997 Z28. That car was FLAT in a turn. It was so stiff, that the rear tire would lift off the ground if you just drove into a parking lot that was slightly at a different level than the street. Then the rear tire would lose traction and lift off the ground. Its hard to explain. The front nose is heavier than the rear so if you approach an uneven surface at an angle, if the body is stiff enough, it will teeter diagonally between the right front and the left rear tire, and then the left front wound be weighted down, and push the right rear tire up. haha It was so weird getting stuck on dry pavement! And my car was not that low. It was just very stiff, with eibach springs even... which is not that stiff of springs. But the body would not flex. So that in combination with springs that hand not much travel, then you can get that teetering effect over an uneven surface, like from transitioning from a street to a parking lot

    • @Brandon-LSX
      @Brandon-LSX  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said I definitely need to upgrade the stock front sway bar. I want my car as stiff as yours lol. Did you have inner and outer Subframe connectors on.

    • @mrchad97z49
      @mrchad97z49 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brandon-LSX No other changes, just springs shocks and sway bars. I did not know it had a subframe on a 1997. I would not make other changes to LCA's or panhard, because they can make a huge amount of noise on the streets , mostly the ones without bushings. Must have bushings for street use.
