Shawn I've been using 1 like this for over 35 years ,same trap and still works like new. When you set it, the arm goes over both of the bars ,not in between them, even though it worked.

I just set the trap today and the arm was in between the spring arms from factory like in this vid. It took some work to get it over both spring arms, it appeared as if it belonged in between like I had seen in a video. I went back and looked at the directions and it showed the trigger arm over both arms

I've seen the creatures who live on the surface on the west coast... especially in southern california. I can't blame the moles for digging deeper to distance themselves from them.

Well I was glad that didn't get Shawn's fingers! I thought it looked strong enough to break them if it did. Interestingly enough, found a dead mole above ground of course in the middle of my driveway early this morning! Unusual to find. No marks or anything on it. My driveway is dirt and does have woods on one side and semi wild flowers on the other, and occasionally I see mole, and chipmunk tunnels as well as lots of other wildlife signs. Still, a strange thing, thought the coincidence of a mole trap Monday was neat.
I have a theory. Moles taste awful to predators. My guess is that a predator caught it during the night, probably near your driveway. After taking a sniff, the predator was like, nope! And then dropped it on the ground. I once saw a mole randomly on my sidewalk, and growing up, I remember occasionally see moles on our driveway, or on the neighbors' driveway.
Made in Kalamazoo, MI, I live there! Pretty cool that they've been made for 100 years. Yes, there really is a Kalamazoo!
P.S. We're actually the Third Coast with more lighthouses than the east or west coasts. 😉

I bought one of those mole traps last year . It has failed to catch one mole . Seems that when a small mole pushs up to hit the trigger , his body is so small that it fits between each bar (one in front of it and one in back ) and it misses the moles 🤔😬☹️
I use the victor mole trap with the mods that shawn shows. It will work on smaller moles.
I like the traps where they come up and the neck is cut off.
We don’t have such critters here. Just wondering why they are pests, apart from eating your plants.

Where my grandparents lived they were just a bit larger than a mouse, where I live now they are eating well they are bigger than rats
I've tried all kinds of mold traps that you have to dig a hole. And they are terrible. I found one trap made by Victor called Dead-Set. It works great and is easy to set up. No digging involved.
Maybe you try using mole traps instead?

New subscriber here. I am currently using the Harris mole trap. I have had success. The moles in my rural community don't come around constantly so you need patience. Have you tried this trap? There are no spikes so a novice, like myself, it's easier to use. Thanks for showing mole stuff as we as mice and rats.

Mole traps are the most exciting to watch. They are complicated and deadly. Almost 100% success rate.

what problems do moles cause to warrant their removal, curious as we don't have the in my part of the world
They dig relentlessly in the ground and tear up lawns and gardens
The moles here burrow near the surface, creating long tunnels or ditches that act like sinkholes. Lots of twisted ankles and trips on those tunnels, as you can’t easily see them even in short grass, and when you’re running, you’re not really paying too much attention to the subtle tunnel paths
A mole got into a flower garden last yr 10’x20’, and I had it lined all with retaining wall bricks. It kept going around and around, all over because it couldn’t find a way out. It destroyed a lot of flowers in the process of all the tunnels
Put a piece of yellow/orange/red tape near the end of the retainer bar to act as a flag, put a small amount of dirt on top of it once set to cover it, then the flag gets flung back on top of everything else after trip.

That could work since they both start with an M, but I think Mousetrap Monday is more popular, and unfortunately some of his "fans" would unsubscribe him if he made anything other than mousetraps. But yes, Moletrap Monday does sound like a good idea, good to have a break from mousetraps every now and then. Maybe he should have Fishing Fridays.

C’mon, man. That trap is hug way too big for a mole. You have to dig a huge hole just to fit that trap inside. Buy the smallest Trapline traps for moles.
The Nash trap is the only one I have had consistent success with over the last twenty some years.

In Germany it is illegal. The fines for killing, hunting and injuring moles depend on the federal state. In almost all federal states, the maximum fine is up to 50,000€. That is more than $50,000.

The mole is a biological pest controller. It feeds on insects, grubs (beetle larvae), worms and snails. In addition, it aerates the soil with its tunnels and thereby also promotes the oxygen supply of the roots.
Strange that it is a different technique based on the side of the country. On the east coast, I found that if u disturb their tunnels too much, they don't use them anymore. And they have plenty of dead end tunnels for hunting grubs that they rarely return to.
