Just absolutely incredible. The turn of foot this filly possessed. To be a deep closer, and still clear the quality of competition that she cleared. By as many lengths as she cleared them. Spotting them 10 to 15 lengths. Incredible is the only word I know to properly describe it.
@denilson200, Spot on!! A STS vs. Zarkava match-up in 2009 would've been one of the most eagerly anticipated races in Europe for many, many years. I totally agree. It was a real shame the two never got to meet.
absolutely amazing that she got stuck in the gate like that and still won.you ask any jockey or trainer and it is pretty much impossible to still win a race after that let alone a grade 1 race. i never understood how anyone ever thought that zenyatta could have matched up with this freak of a horse.it would have been something to watch her run past zenyatta down the home stretch.
@ASupremeOwl My opinion is that Zarkava style of coming from the back in an unstoppable pace would overrun STS and not leave him the opportunity to get back, his accelleration is NOT as fast as that of Zarkava.
Me gustaria ver a tan indefenso y precioso "foal".
She's up there with the best fillies i've ever seen. Even up there with Treve and Zenyatta. An Absolute machine. I just wish she would have got it on with Sea The Stars onnn the course, rather than just off it :)
@ASupremeOwl Did you see Zarkava's Arc and Prix Vermeille? Way more impressive stuff. The only knock on Zarkava, which could put STS on top, is her problems at the start, her character. But nobody here seems to mention that. I have in recent years seen only one horse that blasts through a field of competitors like Zarkava did. Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby 2009. Check it out, just like Zarkava in the Vermeille!! (but on the inside, it IS Calvin BorRAIL!)
@dessiesdoneit I agree with you for the most part (and with Kadir, grass is not dirt, especially when wet). Secretariat however is a lot of hype, at the time he was very special, look at his times, but horses have evolved and races have changed. You cannot compare horses from 30y ago with today's animals. Big Brown & War Emblem (and probably Barbaro and Funny Cide too) would have beat him. Best single dirt race ever? 2008 Kentucky Derby
Timeform is fatally flawed in my opinion, Sea The Stars idled in front(as do many other horses) yet this isn't taken in to consideration. The way Sea The Stars cruised through the gears and for me it's a real sign of greatness if a horse is going faster than anything else around him and doesn't look like they are. To my mind he never looked near fully extended and Mick Kinane reckoned he was never even at 85% but Timeform has him behind Frankel as Frankel keeps going when in front.
@slavapoulin I don't understand ratings? haha. Don't make Me laugh, I've been following horse racing longer than you've been out of puberty. The statement I was trying to make is that Zarkava didn't beat any horses of the same standard that Sea The Stars beat, Infact I look at the 2008 as one of the poorest arc's I've seen. The benchmark for a top class arc is the 1986 one were Dancing Brave destroyed a top class field. If you see my previous comments you will understand...
@dessiesdoneit Secretariat Kentucky Derby time 1:59:40 on dry surface (look at the youtube video, there's grass!) Big Brown Derby time 2:01:82 in a mud puddle !!! And he was slowing down because of having almost 5 lengths margin (Secretariat 2 1/2) Don't be a fanboy, try to be objective
@TheBroph1 Because she retired a young champion she can't be the best? And the best horses in the world race in France dude, they come from everywhere to run on the Grand Stage. If you want to go by Timeform, fine, but you have to take in racing style. Zarkava could stay with anyone, and beat them down the stretch, STS all the same, he didn't have the same accelleration. I'll give you Allez France but Dahlia and All Along?
@ASupremeOwl Did you ever see Zarkava race? She comes in the stretch, like an arrow! Superior finishing speed, beats him every time. He would not have found or done enough to counter that. And I know what I'm talking about, I saw every race of the two horses (that was broadcast). Professional obligation, I ran a Ladbrokes for years. End of storytime.
let me laugh, dude you know nothing about horse racing, Zarkava is the best mare of the last 40 years, she has won the best race in the world easily! england is not the center of racing horses, the Derby winner of last 10 years are not terrible by sts lol!
@maxtudor Brave comment. STS was a brilliant colt but He certainly wasnt the best ever. Timeform should tell you that itself. I hold Dancing Brave and Nijinsky in higher regard...
secreteriat would take a beating by this horse in belmont??she finished the mile and a half getting whipped the shit out of in 2 26 flat on GRASS...secreteriat finished 2 24 flat without an effort on DIRT...whic is harder to run on...that doesnt explain all but just one of the facts...no match to him
@NDRonin1401 I still find it hard to believe you don't think Sea The Stars had a turn of foot. He won a Guinea's, He used his turn of foot to win a Derby, And he had the gears to get himself out of trouble in the Arc. No horse as ever completed that same treble. He'd have been too much for Zarkava. Just my opinion..
@NDRonin1401 So because you ran a bookies you automatically have a superior knowledge on racing? I have my opinion and you have yours. The funniest thing about your last comment was '' Did I ever see Zarkava race? '' Well since I am commenting on a video of her racing, I'd say the answer is yes. Sea The Stars is the for me the best racehorse the track as seen since Dancing Brave. He could go with anyone on a track and beat them comfortably. They both put the same amount of distance between...
@NDRonin1401 themselves and Youmzain in the Arc so I don't think theres a great deal between them. I just know from watching Sea The Stars race he always did enough to win. I mean how he won the Arc from where he was coming into the stretch was ridiculous. In My opinion he is the better of the two horses if there is much between them...
@PrincessPignatelli Wow. You have actually took the time to take me up on my punctuation. I do apologise for putting an apostrophe in Guineas. Jesus. Get a life...
@jono1563 bold comment. Theres no way she'd have beat STS. Remember he was the first 3 year to have won the Guineas, Derby, Arc as a 3 year old as a timeform rating of 140 alongside the great Dancing Brave who would have blown both STS and Zarkava of the track. Hes no mug and would have beat Zarkava IMO... Both brilliant horses though
@jono1563 Smashing Filly alright but she would not have beaten Sea The Stars, he is the best horse ever imo. Neither had any luck in running in their Arc's yet their class well and truly told. They are also the best bit of Ante Post I ever did, I had STS @ 14/1 and Zarkava at 7/1. Doubt I will ever do better than that.
@NDRonin1401 The fact you still haven't considered is no matter who STS was racing, No matter what pace, What ground he never lost. He would have gone with Zarkava and still beaten her because he always found enough or did just enough to win the race. Theres no way you can tell Me STS as no turn of foot when he won a Guineas and won an Arc from an almost impossible position. STS would have beaten Zarkava. End of story
amazing! The best horse of all time in my opinion
She was a great filly but theres a new queen in town her name is ENABLE but amazing stunning turn of foot from last to first in last 3 furlongs l
Zarkava is surely not the best racehorse of all time, but she is definitely up there with the best
Just absolutely incredible. The turn of foot this filly possessed. To be a deep closer, and still clear the quality of competition that she cleared. By as many lengths as she cleared them. Spotting them 10 to 15 lengths. Incredible is the only word I know to properly describe it.

Really impressive!
Seems to be a finish with a moto GP against 125cc!
what a finish by the filly though, absolute supe,r closing in like that and winning...very special horse

Is it common in France to have two race callers who take turns? ..another awesome performance by ZARKAVA!

There'll never be a better filly or mare better than Zarkava. And frankly, you'll be hard pressed to say there's any better colt's either, IMO.
she is an amazing animal and tink she would of beating sea the stars and zenyatta its a shame she retired
wow wow wow that is really impressive...unbelivable
every hair stands on end watching that
She's up there with the best fillies i've ever seen. Even up there with Treve and Zenyatta. An Absolute machine. I just wish she would have got it on with Sea The Stars onnn the course, rather than just off it :)
@bgardiner2000 the new benchmark is now 2008 !!
@ASupremeOwl I think you'll find the "benchmark" for the best Arc field was 1965.
@ASupremeOwl Did you see Zarkava's Arc and Prix Vermeille?
Way more impressive stuff.

@ASupremeOwl By the way I think Galikova looks a live outsider for the Arc this year, have her at 33's :)

who used to ride her ? franki or geez, what the hell was oldikova's jockeys name? murtagh?
kadir1982 Christophe Soumillon
kadir1982 Olivier Peslier used to ride Goldikova
