I got ridiculed a bit in high school during the seventies because I loved Peter Paul and Mary. I loved their politics and they turned me on to writing poetry. Today their albums and cds are treasured. When Mary Travers died I was devastated. Now Peter Yarrow. They will never be replaced. It seems the world is losing all its cherished icons from the past. I can only hope they enter everlasting joy and peace.
Being one of the "stupid kids", I will say that PP&M spoke to MANY generations. My father was born in 1948 auntie shared his love of Peter Paul and Mary with me. ♥️
They will all be together again with their loved ones, and they will be praying from above for peace and unity. As a Baha'i which stands for peace and unity in diversity, I applaud their accomplishments. God is Love.
Peter Paul and Mary will always be a great group. Love there music. I was a. Child. When they started. I pray there music lives for many generations to come John 3 16-17 Thank u peter for the signed pic u send me. 3 months a go God bless u and ur. Family thanks for the great music Rest I. Peace
I always loved their ballads......Tunes that were not normally heard on their earlier albums were my fave such as asoalin rising of the moon the cuckoo, and others. Im not into any politics either side, i just loved the folk ballads.
So much of their music resonates in me today. So many albums and songs later. Their songs and messages in them will live forever. RIP Petter Yarrow and God bless!
Dearest Peter we know that you have moved over too the other side now and awe also know that you are Spreading your words you have been sharing within Our Memories for All Our Lives and Forever! Rest in the Great Peace ☮️ you have Always Hoped for! Sincerely Neal in Boston :))✨🌹🌈☮️
I was 9 and my cousins and I would sing along w/ “Lemon Tree” in the back of the station wagon. My aunt was so patient before ear plugs. 😉 Happy times.
Only Noel (Paul) Stookey, aged 87, is left. R.I.P. Peter Yarrow died January 7 2025, aged 86. Mary Travers September 16 2009 aged 72. Dick Kniss (bass) died January 25, 2012, aged 74 . (At a concert, Peter once introduced the group as Peter, Paul, Mary & Dick.) Paul Prestopino died July 16 2023, aged 83, (backup guitar, mandolin, dobro, banjo & percussion.)
In 1968/69 at the University of Kansas we played Album 1700 on loop on our little stereo in the girls dorm. In the last year, I have played The Great Mandela on loop.
The trio had a big impact, but America seems to have swung the opposite direction now, towards materialism and selfishness. "What’s in it for me?" has surpassed the selfless idealism of Peter Paul and Mary. Will it ever make a comeback?
PP&M were the impetus and inspiration behind my learning to play the guitar during my freshman year in college, 1965. I always loved the music, but even then I hated the politics behind the music. Yarrow’s leftist façade came off and he showed his true colors when he lured the 14-year old girl to his hotel room and introduced her to “Mr. Happy”… All I could think of was the line out of the “Talkin’ Candy Bar Blues” …. “Pre-vert, the kid’s life’s ruined” … and it probably really was. The entire lefty “everybody-love-one-another-right-now” schtick was proven to be bullshit. It was really just all about the money. From then on Yarrow and his leftist causes were ‘damaged goods’. So I sorta kinda rewrote one of his signature lefty tunes, which I call: “Le Pre’verter” “Men whose names are great, I am writing you a letter That you will read perhaps, if you have the time Men whose names are great, I only want the money So I can diddle that little honey, which is even a lot better Than writing you this letter” In today’s “Me-Too” world where men are held accountable for decades old “indiscretions”, never forget that in the midst of the Iranian Hostage Release (so it would pass completely under the radar while the whole country was otherwise preoccupied), Jimmy “Peanut Brain” Carter pardoned Yarrow for the CRIME of sexually assaulting a minor. As we approach January 20th, the 44th Anniversary of the release of the Iranian hostages, never forget that, to date, no man has ever been absolved of a sex crime except Yarrow. Bill Cosby gets hung out to dry, but Yarrow gets a pass. There is no justification for sexually assaulting a minor (or anyone, for that matter). Yarrow's pardon was not a "pass". I suspect that you your self know that your loyalty to the Nation and willingness to give your youth to your country was misappropriated. The Iranians themselves realized that taking and holding the hostages was a mistake. Members of the Iranian government started working from the beginning to have the action reversed. It was President Elect Reagan who delayed that from occurring for his own political gain. Sadly it is easy for people to act against what they know is good and true if they think they can gain personal power and gain as a result. President Carter's personal moral compass truly did set a better example for the country.
@@RonaldDelby I have always had some interest in politics, but have generally been more active in other ways, including teaching. I speak German, Persian, and Japanese, and have heard about many historical events from eye witnesses, including the horror at Bergen-Belsen where Anne Frank died, and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. I was also in Germany the day the Berlin Wall fell. I went to Kuwait during the fires. We can make a difference if we prepare ourselves.

I knew all three and they were nice people.
Yeah, Peter was great when not molesting children. He did 4 months in the slammer for it.
I worked back stage at the Kerrville Folk Festival. Peter, Paul & Mary were singing there one night. Paul Stookey had a great since of humor.

They were like vocal trapeze artist. I saw them from their beginning. Marched with them at the marches. RIP
Peter.
Just curious, we're you there when he molested that 14 year old girl? Or when he was convicted and spent time in jail for it. He's on his way to Hell.
I didn't alway like their politics but I sure loved their music. It was a time of peace and love for many
The music will play on! 💕🎤🎸

I think you meant that Dick Kniss died in 2012.
@balfourgrl Of course you are right. (Born April 24 1937 & died January 25 2012)
Dick Kniss quietly applied a great bass line to PP&M and also John Denver. Great musician.

Yes, dear Noel, “The song goes on, as it always does…”❤️And we must follow, if we can…

it can but it will take a calamity of something like the Depression or a World War to shock people into humility
So sad. He lived a good life !!
Good life? He spent 4 months in jail after being convicted of child molestation !! Guess we have different definitions of "good life".
❤😢
Uh, I don't believe that's Paul at 3:15.
