OMG!!! That AIC-Stone riff sounds sooooo damn good with that Vortex mod. I want it..... I NEED IT BAAAAD lol.
Nice chops with the AIC tunes!! That amp sounds killer
Thanks! I’ll have to come and see you guys perform one day!
Sounds incredible! I hope this shows up in the shared mod folder soon, I've love to learn more about it!
Love the sound of that bad boy!! Also loved the Pantera Riff, yeah baby!!
Dam! Heavy Duty! … what more could you want
Awesome tones as always Jason!
After Alta, I expect Vortex, Eclipse and Earthquake and should we not expect Flood ? Damn sure Apocalypse incoming. Tsunami action , however, we ALL love your 'stage' designations. Just like Hot-Rods Brother. Stage I is fine but what about Stage X ? Awesome!
Cool,it's the Alice in Chains big sound's even more enormous, well done Headfirst Amplification ;-)
Is that a new mod? Sounds killer! Great job!
Yes, a new mod. Thanks!
sounds thicc. Great stuff man!
Its sounds killer! has a very modem tone to her for sure! Me like it. Jason i know that one video you did you were saying that you working on a new 50 watt amp i think it was. I looking for a new amp and i really like your amps but i want a 50 watt i'm not in any band just play at home! And i also have a 4 -12 cab with v 30's in her. any way hanks Jason
How are you getting these bone crushing tones! 😳
Will there be an episode on best/favourite clean tones. 🤭
Already done that! Haha
Sounds killer Jase. Plate fed?
4 stage + cathode follower
@@HeadfirstAmps Extra tube, or is it a high voltage pre-boost curcuit in front of a cascaded 2203 type thing? Sounds kind of AIC to me, but different to the Friedman JJ amp (I think that one uses diodes huh?).
Extra tube.
That is Killer... Incredible gain, with Clarity and NO Mud..Breaks the laws of Physics haha!..There will be a backorder list for this..
Is this a Snorkler type circuit?
No
Straight up scuba 😂😂
Lol, yep. Strap the tanks to my back, I'm going deep!
@@HeadfirstAmps Yeah, this is rounder in the attack of the notes
Dude!. Those tones are filthy!, but the stank face once you started playing We All Die Young just adddd a new dimension.
I need these tones, would Jim's alta 50 get that kind of girth and fizz.
Same amount of gain for sure, a bit of a different texture with the Alta
Reminds me of a rev blue. Ridiculously thick. AIC riffs are not optional, they are required.
I could hear myself playing candle mass through that monster 🤘doomy, bloody awesome Jason.
Well said! This amp could be a total doom machine! Candlemass or Trouble…
Solid mastodon/bison style sludge tones too
Sounds killer. I hope you go through the schematic. I used your JEL mod on my 2204, which sounds awesome. But this amp sounds tighter and more aggressive.
0:57 - \M/
It’s a big riff!
That has a very modern type of sound.
Sounds great!
How do i get this amazing amp?
jason@headfirstamps.com
where do I get one?
email: jason@headfirstamps.com
Has some Snorkler vibes to it in a very good way, has that thick low mid snarl to it. I like it!
what are you talking about
@@HeadfirstAmpsThe Snorkler mod he's referring to was done by Reinhold Bogner to the JCM800 that Jerry Cantrell used on Facelift and Dirt. Bogner did that mod while he was still an amp tech in Canada Jason. Definitely check out what it entails brotha.
Killer tones jase 🤜🤛🤘🤘🤘you never disappoint👌
Is it designed/tuned around low tunings?
Let’s here it in Eflat homie!?
DIG the Cantrell tension & release riffage🤘🏻
christ whats the guitar tuned to?? .. be nice to hear E standard
Aloha Dude. Sounds mean!
Holy hell that rips
Sounds massive!
omg,......
Damn I like that.
This is the tone everybody is wanting! You nailed it Jas!!! Now how about a 5 gain stage?😂😆😁😃🤘
🤘
Jason, is this mod available for the 1987x also? Is it possible buying the schematics fro the mod? Thanks a lot, because this is fantastic.
This circuit does require an extra tube which is difficult to fit in a 1987x, not impossible but certainly a squeeze.
@@HeadfirstAmps Thanks a lot Jason. I'm planning to buy one but I could go for an SLP, so if let me know if in the near future it'll be possible to buy the schematics. All the best.
Pretty effing heavy sounding Plexi mod there Jason. Neighbours must be running down the street in terror 🤣(except the ones that grew up on AC/DC)
What would or could cause a JMP's presence to squeal when above half way when I have heaps of gain going on in the amp, e.g., when it's saturating. The pot is scratchy too. On the Metroamp forum I see folk saying it's just normal for early Plexi amps and clones and the scratchiness is due to DC on the pot, but I dunno, because I see other folks diming everything, including the presence. I do not want to do any gain mods until I solve that one (I ordered a big bunch of caps and resistors that are tricky to get in NZ, so I can try stuff now).
Stratchness is completely normal in a vintage Marshall presence setup. They sound the best imho that way. If your amp is oscillating when you turn the presence, and it’s a DIY build, then you probably have the NFB wired backwards.
@@HeadfirstAmps Thanks. I guess I can just disconnect the wire from the NFB resistor to verify that. I am still trying to work out how it could be wired backwards though. Do you mean the phase is wrong?
Yes
@@HeadfirstAmps Cheers for that. It might be a big help working out what's up with this very gainy Plexi build.
I am thinking the builder who is quite experienced might have done it deliberately. The amp has so much overdrive and oomph when cranked, but is only usable if the presence control is kept low. He said he was going for 1978 AC/DC live tones. He hinted at having insider info. He might be completely full of it, but I dunno.
He set it up with a shared cathode, softer filtering (32+32), no bright cap, and what he called a 1969 tone stack, plus a full suite of mustard caps. It's not your usual Plexi for sure. It's a wild beast of an amp and kind of cool. I did not stay in touch, because he's a really grumpy bugger and seemed offended that anybody would want to make changes to his build.
-- He also said converting it to 2204 specs would not have as much gain as it does now, so now I have to work out what he's done (something unconventional it seems - some Kiwi hack lol).
P.S. Next time you are in AK, I might have to pay you to come have a squiz at the thing. :D
@aquilarossa5191 it must have a post phase inverter master?
If the negative feedback is backwards, then that’s a mistake. Positive feedback is never a design choice!
