- Quick weight comparison between the Shimano Ultegra 12sp ST-R8170 and the Dura Ace ST-R9270 shift/brake levers. also a quick way to make them 12g lighter and even closer in weight to the Dura Ace weight.
Shimano Claimed weight is 391g or the pair
Dura Ace spare titanium clamps include nuts and washers.

These videos are not reviews, nor is it an endorsement of the product in question. Just the checking actual weight of the thing.
Yes, you can use DA clamps on 105, Ultegra, GRX etc etc
This guy is insane. Watch Rides of Japan instead, that guy actually knows what's up.
Here is another one for you to save some grams. With the new software you can now program the "hidden" top button to switch the front derailleur up and down. So then you can remove all the shifting buttons and electronics from the left handel and use it just as a break
I want to see this so I can have a laugh. I programmed mine on the left to switch pages and the ones on the tops to zoom in and out of pages and maps.
This channel is exactly for me, please continue.
I’m so glad I found your new channel. You might just be our generation’s Sheldon Brown. Loving my Mori Mono bag btw.
Good to hear mate! (About the bag I mean 😝)
I started to add to cart for that shimano parts… until the last scene.. I hate you! 😂
Where can you buy these clamps?
Thanks for the tip 👍🏼
Great tip, love it!
Great tip, thx for sharing!!
Brilliant tip, cheers!
Thanks for sharing
Can we verify if the stock DA bolts are steel, alu or titanium? Shimano doesn't say. Clamp itself is titanium, but maybe there is upgrade potential for the bolts =)
Can you please make more videos like this 👍🏼
The mechanical Sram DoubleTap are lighter than mechanical Shimano STI. Unfortunately, my old carbon bandages only fit Campagnolo and Shimano.
The shifters used to be the biggest difference between ultegra and dura ace no? Also the cassette is a lot 🤔
Swapping the cassette is the biggest weight saving across the groupset by a big margin - a huge 92g saving (253g for 11-34t in Dura Ace versus 345g in Ultegra). The best price I can see online is £210 from Certini - a bargain at just £2.28 per gram saved!
How much can you get off those Ultegras by sanding off the paint and buffing to a shine?
You can see that on the other channel, I think so!
have you tried using very fine steel wire instead of the clamps?
Omg that’s a huge hack !!
now check the cage weight difference between UT and DA!
Are the levers the same thou? Dura ace to me feels more economic. Are the hood shapes the same
Shape is exactly the same. Surface finish is slightly different though.
Leaving the fluid and olives out is low hanging fruit to save grams!!!
Drillium on the bottom of the Lever saves 5 Grams each
Hey, Slayer! Any updates for Canary integrated handlebar? I’m looking to buy this one as they have 130mm long version.
Nope, still as comfortable as ever (read flexy) 😬
Is this the artist formerly know as Rides of Japan?
Nah, that guy is a dork! ;)
@@slayerofgrams *heroic dork
Where can you purchase these bands?
Make a google search on the part number and hopefully you’ll find them in relevant area to your country.
@@slayerofgrams Jeah i have, everywhere is sold out :(
can you use those clamps on grx 12 speed?
yes
Will this twork w GRX 12 shifters?
yes
will the 11 speed 9150 clamps also fit to the 12 speed levers?
9000~9170, 9270 uses the exact same clamp.
@@ridesofjapan Do you know if the Dura Ace ST-R9270 clamps are compatible with 11 speed GRX shift/brake levers?
@@irwinselvam946 All Shimano road and Gravel bar clams have the same critical dimensions. If you want to save some cash, buy old or crash damaged dura ace shifters, take clamps off and sell the rest ;-)
I take the Dura-Ace clamps work on GRX too?
They do. And a bargain at only £73 including delivery for a pair from SJS cycles. That works out at a fraction over £6 per gram saved.

a gram is a gram
Another great tip that I heard; if you ride without water bottles it will save 1000-1500 grams, depending on the size. That's insane compared to the 12gr in this video!
Worth noting that for most people the water bottle upgrade will severly impact your ride quality ;)
I save more grams after pooping before the ride
How original ;)
LOL this dude is a COPYCAT of Rides of Japan! BEWARE!
Thanks a lot for sharing. Ordering now 🫣
what about the threaded insert? Is it a different alloy? It won't corrode?
