Your review is SPOT ON friend. I couldn't say it better. This film is utter genius and sheer brilliance, it's mind-blowing that it's made in the early 30's. I've seen it so many times and never get tired of it. "One of the greatest movies ever made and one of the hallmarks of cinema" = FACT.
Yes, that was key to the original film's tragedy -- Kong dies with a broken heart. It brings the film full circle for the final line "It was beauty killed the beast" to make sense and resonate better than it does in the '05 remake.
Don't think of the portrayal of the natives being 'racist'--they did, after all, fight Kong with spears while the sailors (armed with guns and all) scrambled to escape
Agreed.I actually thought that the "natives" demonstrated a measure of dignity and a bellyful of courage. Also,he did not mention the very great Negro actor NOBEL JOHNSON who portrayed the chief.
Doesn't help the fact that Charlie the cook tells the crew "Crazy black men been here" so yeah, product of its time?? Yeah it's awkward to say the least.
He could climb the Empire State Building which is like 1000000 times bigger then him but the gate is the same size as the wall why did he not climb over the gate? Weird
i absolutely hate to be the “uhum acksually” guy but that plesiosaurs is in fact a sauropod, it was in the water because the general scientific consensus at the time was sauropods were too damn heavy to support their own weight so they had to live in the water to survive, which we later obviously learned was untrue
First of all, I like Charlie in KING KONG -- he lends a bit of humor as someone who doesn't give two hangs about some crazy voyage and just wants to go back to China. His role is bigger in SON OF KONG but that's only because less happens in that film.
now he just needs to do the 2005 and the 2017 versions, the only difference being only the 2005 one is a remake the monsterverse one is a completely different story with some similar if not familiar bits
Loved your review. Yes, I agree this is the one that stands above all others. The 1976 and 2005 We're good in their own right, but, 1933 will always be the Masterpiece! One thing I noticed now, being that I just watched Jurassic Park few weeks ago, is the Brontisuares coming up out of the water, in the JP. version it's portrayed as only eating vegetation, not carnivorous as shown in this film.. Well, as you said , it can be overlooked and just enjoy pure Saturday matinee fun munching on Hot Butter Popcorn !
Just wanted to clarify in the book “after King Kong fell” it hints that Kong did “something” to Ann. And if you saw the thumbnail you know what I mean. If you still don’t get it let’s just say Kong was sharing his banana.
So are you excited to review destroy all monsters or your just neutral to be honest final wars is D.A.M done right being a gigantic monster bash but actually be awesome
Not to sound like a complete pedant, but the Skull Island village and wall in the 2005 film was not all CGI. Yes a lot of it was, but there were miniatures (just like on Lord of the Rings) and full scale sets for the actors to walk around in. But I do agree that the scale and grandeur 1933 wall and gate set is very impressive, not just for its time but still to this day. Still, I really enjoyed your review and how enthusiastic you were, its definitely one of my favourite films!
Fun Fact: There were no special effects when those people kept getting eaten. An actual head was built for the people to climb into when it did those close ups.
My favorite character in this whole movie is the Chinese cook because one I laughed when he was yelling everybody on deck! and two the fact that he found Anne’s necklace or bracelet I forget which and he surmises that Anne was captured and lets everybody know if he hadn’t done that they would not have known that Anne was captured by the tribe in time.
4:13 Alex: "You would say this movie is really kind of slow to start..." Peter Jackson: "Allow me to introduce myself!" 10:55 The man was only halfway up the tree when the bronosaurus nabbed him. Presumably his intention was to climb out of reach. 12:02 Percy Jackson, you say? 😕
Willis O'Brien made some of the most stunning movies. It’s a shame not all of them were realized. I would have loved to see some of them be made, even some concepts be realized. Even if it’s in CGI, I’d love to see these ideas be explored.
WOMEN OF THAT ERA NEEDED A MAN? You need to brush-up on cinematic history. There were independent female portrayals in the 1930s. There were man-manipulators, man-saviors. You probably never saw Davis, Garbo, Dietrich, Lombard, Colbert.. In 14:31 you say that they should have thought about bringing gas bombs in their initial journey into the jungle. THEY DID> Your clip has a gas bomb stopping a charging stegosaurus. There is another scene when Denham is shouting after a sailor who stupidly took the bombs with him as he is desperately running away from a dinosaur.
Besides, Ann was abducted by a giant ferocious ape! She needed rescuing as ANYONE would! KING KONG is a movie to be taken on face value, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's what makes it so damn great!
is it just me or dose his audio get a bit inconsistent in like volume or that? like in this one mainly when he is saying the line about "...in the edit"
Actually, the jaw breaking has only been done in: -The original 1933 film -King Kong Escapes -The 1976 remake -The 2005 remake He tried but failed to do it in a few of the rest.
It is my understanding the Arabian proverb at the beginning was just something Cooper made up. I first saw the movie in 1968. I never once thought the natives were portrayed in a racist manner. They were treated as a civilization and talked to in their own language. They seem very civilized and living as well as they could be given the circumstances. The indigenous people of the 1976 version were borderline civilized while Jackson's 2005 people were simply terrible. At an initial screening, Cooper found that the 'spider scene' totally stopped the pacing of the movie, so he cut it. Good decision. The 2005 kept it and, yes, it completely stopped the forward momentum of the movie. Plus, it was ridiculous. I've never heard that the man portraying the native was almost killed under Kong's foot. I can see that happening, but where did you get that information?
why is the audio messing up when ever he cuts to joke or refference clips? Like the simpsons one, omg it sounds like my old 2001 laptop trying to play 1080p videos.
13:28 You might say that these scene is better consider this is more Natural with grapling and kicking than punching. However don't forget this scene is also dated consider the poster of the T-rex. Yeah you might think I may nitpick, but the reason för Peter Jacksons were little more realistic, he prat med Lottie more of T-rex and added those in the remake, even gave the name of the three fictional Dinosaurs Kong fight from T-rex to Vastatosaurus Rex, meaning Ravager lizard/reptile King(Dinosaurs/Pterosaurs and Plesiosaurs are reptiles, not lizards. Maybe update that in the 2005 film, and research some of the creatures names ) because of the evolution of the Tyrannosaurid family. P.S Stop calling Pterosaurs(example Pteranodon) as "flying Dinosaurs". Sure they are flying reptiles, but just because both species lived together in the same periods in Mecozoic era and are cousins, doesn't mean they are Dinosaurs. There's a bit difference. Anyway, love your videos, and hope you reply on this, just jeep in mind that I trying to help you from misconceptions.
I agree about the corny dialogue, I don't know if your aware of the ships course, but it is infact somewhere out towards Sumatra/Borneo in the far east where their supposed to be heading originally on a junk ship, hense a part oriental crew. he's there to add character, sea captain's in this era would need to be bi-lingual as their sailing all over the world, this is a trading vessel bringing back- tea, rare animal species etc from the lesser known parts of the World. kong mistakes the train for another animal threat & so attacks it. It definitely isnt fair to say cgi is lazy or doesnt take as much effort as practical effects when its the exact opposite. Any vfx artist will tell you. I would love to be wrong, but that's my conclusion after almost 50 years of trying to track down all details.

Well said! This petty nit-picking is so tiresome. We already know it's an old film and only a dummy needs constant reminders of that. I also don't care to be told what 'should' offend me because nothing in KING KONG does. Let's try to lighten up -- we'll sleep better.😊

I hate king kong and I have absolutely no freaking idea people can thing that a monkey can defeat a giant skyscraper sized radioactive lizard that can kill a giant three headed space dragon
Thought the fact that even Ann didn't sympathize with Kong at all made it all the sadder.
This is where the remake screwed up. Not only is the pacing better in the original, only the audience sees the true tragedy of Kong.
Yes, that was key to the original film's tragedy -- Kong dies with a broken heart. It brings the film full circle for the final line "It was beauty killed the beast" to make sense and resonate better than it does in the '05 remake.
The #1 rule of history. You can never judge the past by modern morals
Right -- it's called 'presentism' and it's responsible for so many distorted historical perceptions.
all hail kong the 8th wonder of the world can't wait for the rematch of the century great video alex the hunted
David Brown you never claimed what rematch however I already know what you’re saying
Don't think of the portrayal of the natives being 'racist'--they did, after all, fight Kong with spears while the sailors (armed with guns and all) scrambled to escape

I always laugh at that line!😂
This movie is a masterpiece, I love it!
8:47 The villagers had build the wall big enough just to keep Kong out, but yet they made the door big enough for Kong to walk through...
Go figure...
He could climb the Empire State Building which is like 1000000 times bigger then him but the gate is the same size as the wall why did he not climb over the gate? Weird
@@anthonyandronaco9336
Yes, and there's that as well...😆
14:50 that's a plesiosaurus and it's a marine reptile not a dinosaur.
I've never noticed that before. I've always heard it referred to as a giant snake, but he does have 4 flippers.
Ok he didn't notice its a plesiosaur so he can call it a snake like dinosaur
Well, it was a dinosaur in this film.
i appreciate your scientific accuracy 👍👍👍
i absolutely hate to be the “uhum acksually” guy but that plesiosaurs is in fact a sauropod, it was in the water because the general scientific consensus at the time was sauropods were too damn heavy to support their own weight so they had to live in the water to survive, which we later obviously learned was untrue
The Chinese guy actually reappeared in the sequel “Son of Kong” where he’s given somewhat of a bigger role
First of all, I like Charlie in KING KONG -- he lends a bit of humor as someone who doesn't give two hangs about some crazy voyage and just wants to go back to China. His role is bigger in SON OF KONG but that's only because less happens in that film.
ive been experimenting with stop motion and wow, they did amazing with this, especially with the big stop motion
This Stop Motion effect is weird as hell! CLASSIC!
now he just needs to do the 2005 and the 2017 versions, the only difference being only the 2005 one is a remake the monsterverse one is a completely different story with some similar if not familiar bits
2017 also has the most hideously looking critter. brie larsons laughing face, when she makes photos of the natives. the horror.
Man has every right to bend nature to his will since we have a soul and the ability to think abstractly and Reason!
Loved your review.
Yes, I agree this is the one that stands above all others.
The 1976 and 2005

Finally glad your back in business Alex your and awesome reviewer
So are you excited to review destroy all monsters or your just neutral to be honest final wars is D.A.M done right being a gigantic monster bash but actually be awesome
excellent review man. you really respect this film. This was one of my faves.

“You’ll be constantly surrounded by seamen” that was the most obvious joke I guess
Hey Alex. Great review! Can’t wait to see your assessment of Destroy All Monsters.
Recently saw this in the theater. Awesome.
he did bring the gas bombs when they went into the jungle. They fell into the lake when the Brontosaurus attacked the raft.
Peter Jackson, not Percy Jackson.
Peter Jackson: Sea of Kongs
This is a great idea of reviewing a 1933 movie
Fun Fact: There were no special effects when those people kept getting eaten. An actual head was built for the people to climb into when it did those close ups.
I heard that they almost suffocated to death behind the scenes
Noble Jones walking down the steps to the sound of the Tuba is an awesome scene.
King Kong....the biggest simp ever...but still love the movie...
The wheel was so close to Godzilla vs. Hedorah! I want to see you review that more than any other movie
Destroy all Monsters! You lucky dog!
I get it Ann's beauty was so pretty Kong couldn't fight well!
4:13 Alex: "You would say this movie is really kind of slow to start..."
Peter Jackson: "Allow me to introduce myself!"
10:55 The man was only halfway up the tree when the bronosaurus nabbed him. Presumably his intention was to climb out of reach.
12:02 Percy Jackson, you say? 😕
The Simpsons clip was muffled by the way
oh god damn it fuck it this video has been a nightmare to make just leave it
Okay man, I still enjoyed the video xD
AT LONG LAST! IT'S FINALLY HERE!!!
Willis O'Brien made some of the most stunning movies. It’s a shame not all of them were realized. I would have loved to see some of them be made, even some concepts be realized. Even if it’s in CGI, I’d love to see these ideas be explored.
Brontosaurus does not eat meat. It eats plants.
It tooks 7 years to complete.
Man, I loved that King Kong that PERCY JACKSON did.
The tribe leader also seems to have tubas on his feet
least in a analisas or something of the 2005 film, the play is suppose to be a show about retelling the expedition to the island
Hey Alex I am kinda curious do you plan on reviewing the kong remake?
WOMEN OF THAT ERA NEEDED A MAN? You need to brush-up on cinematic history. There were independent female portrayals in the 1930s. There were man-manipulators, man-saviors. yay you're back
My favorite movie of all time
is it just me or dose his audio get a bit inconsistent in like volume or that? like in this one mainly when he is saying the line about "...in the edit"
It's not a Kaiju if it wasn't made in Japan. And the term is Daikaiju.
Actually, the jaw breaking has only been done in:

Great review man (btw gorillas dont climb)
19:57 Godzilla ain't got shit on me!
Technically dinosaurs are not monsters
Some how they made the gate when it was the great depression
When my brother Carlos died, I would say: Oh no, It wasn't the killers. It was Death kill the Beast.
😊
I agree about the corny dialogue, I don't know if your aware of the ships course, but it is infact somewhere out towards Sumatra/Borneo in the far east where their supposed to be heading originally on a junk ship, hense a part oriental crew. he's there to add character, sea captain's in this era would need to be bi-lingual as their sailing all over the world, this is a trading vessel bringing back- tea, rare animal species etc from the lesser known parts of the World. kong mistakes the train for another animal threat & so attacks it.

12:03 Percy Jackson?! XD
The gate from King Kong was destroyed in the burning of Atlanta scene in Gone With The Wind....such a waste
The audio messed up
16:05 Oh, stop whinging. They dropped from an overhang. There's no telling how deep the water beneath might be!
Even if it was deep, hitting water from high up is just as bad as hitting concrete
How is showing Native African culture racist? ❄️❄️
People really lived like that in 1933.
Thank you.😊

Twas beauty confused the beast.
It's a pity "The Spider Pit Sequence" was cut from the original. Some of the original footage was used in "The Black Scorpion."
Some of the original models were used in Black Scorpion, but not footage. I'm now of the opinion that the spider pit scene was never filmed. There was a lot of hyperbole and legends that grew around this sequence, but I'm now of the opinion it doesn't exist because it was never actually filmed. Diddy Kong is in the movie!!
2:57, 😳😳 ayo

It’s a Kong Gong
The Arabian proverb NEVER existed in the real World it was just made up for the film so i've heard

the spectacle and wonder of this film never dates, and when it was released it's safe to say it had the pool to it'self there wouldnt have been another film like it
5:39:😂.
This is only my opinion, but I preferred the 2005 remake over this.
hey.... say... i guess i love you.

Thay is something wrong Aladdin and the simpoes in your video
I prefer the 2005 remake, mainly because of how creepy Jackson made Skull Island & it's denizens.
The village in 2005 wasn’t cgi
nature is Britney, ie leave nature alone! :P
I hate that people consider Kong a kaiju when he's NOT
Uhhh, yeah he is.
Edit: I mean, the version in King Kong vs Godzilla is. The 2005 and 1933 versions aren’t. I would consider 2017 Kong to be a Kaiju.
Have you ever been out in the wilderness w/a woman...King Kong gets it down cold!!! You see, movies from that era didn't know you were supposed to LIE about women, so they told the TRUTH!
King kong ded
