Well, definitely I chose an excellent career according to my profile. Being a exploration geologist is more than a profession, It is a lifestyle. Thank you for this video. Could you share with us some advises to develop a great career once a student graduates ?Greetings from Perú.
Hi Edinsson, thanks very much for the comment. That’s a good point, I shall think about a separate video on the career building aspect. For immediate interest, I’ve given a SEG webinar last year (recorded in my playlists) that you can access for ideas about CPD and further career aspects.
Hey! Loved the video! I'm very intrigued by this line of work. Do you have any time for a social life? Do you have weekends off? Do you have time to play games, watch sports, or engage in hobbies? Thank you!
Hi Chandler, sorry that it took a while to get back to you. As you can imagine, this kind of job can be demanding and intense at times, but on the other hand companies are trying to offer ways to relax and cool down in the evenings and on weekends. Depending on the project and country you work in, you could get weekends off, or you work on rotations, say 5 weeks on site followed by 3 weeks (extra) holiday at home/ wherever you want to be. There are also TVs and usable satellite internet comms available that allow you to communicate with friends and family. You can also explore the cultural specifics of the area you operate in, and even learn a foreign language!
Nice to hear! I am sure that some of the techniques are equally applicable in nuclear waste disposal, just thinking of rock mechanics and quality, tunnel engineering, site selection ...
