1. Remove the key lock cylinder cap. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver door handle; then turn the key counterclockwise, to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds.The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
2. Wait for 10 minutes until the DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). The DIC display will again show REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additional times. After the third time all previously known transmitters will no longer work with the vehicle. The DIC displays PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN, then press the ENGINE START/STOP button. (You may have to open and close drivers door to see the DIC display). Remaining transmitters can be relearned during the next steps. The DIC display should now show READY FOR REMOTE # 1.
4. Place the new transmitter in the transmitter pocket with buttons facing the rear of the vehicle. The transmitter pocket is inside the center console storage area between the driver and front passenger seats. The storage area will need to be opened to access the transmitter pocket.
5. Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will show that it is ready to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the transmitter.
To program additional transmitters, repeat Steps 4-6. When all additional transmitters are programmed, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit programming mode.
These instructions worked perfect for my 2017 XT5! By the way, the only reason you need the key cut is to operate the door lock. If you’re trying to program an “extra” key fob, you can use your existing key to perform the door lock portion and the program a new fob even with an un-cut key. I paid 60 bucks for a new fob and the lock service would have cost an additional 300.
How did you get it to enter the relearn mode without the emergency key? What were the steps?
@@mktradersfl do all the “key” functions with your existing key and the programming functions with the spare key fob. Then, put the blank key in the new key fob until you can get it cut.

This video is awesome!!! Step by step without any missing information for programming new remotes. It take me 2 - 30 minute tries, but definitely worth it!!!
On my first try some how I erased my one working remote. On my second try it worked perfectly on the first remote and then I repeated steps 4-6 for remote 2 before pressing for 12 second to end the process. I couldn’t believe after waiting 3-10 minutes periods for the car to get ready to program the remotes it literally took a press of the button to program the fobs… go figure (theft reduction plan I guess).

Nice video! While it's not quite right for the XT5. On the XT5 if you wanting to add a remote your old one/omes will have to go through the final procedure too.
The last step is to erase any others that may have been programed. You can add several more if needed.
You're actually talking about a different procedure, the one if you already have existing fobs, both procedures are in listed in your owners manual. Using the procedure shown in the video, the old fobs are erased as soon as a new fob is programmed ( step 6 in your owners manual or the description box of the video ) however, you can still use this procedure to program multiple fobs, you just repeat steps 4-6 for each fob, after the first fob is programmed.

l already hav a programmed fob, just want to add a second one.. if l buy the virgin OEM, l know the jnsert key wont be cut (l'll do that later) but am hoping this will work to get the fob programmed..

I followed all the steps and the first time , the original key got erased and the new one did not get programs and the anti theft warining came on , then I programmed the original key again and it worked , and I followed the steps for the 2nd key fob but did not get programmed, I can only assume the key fob is wrong , but I can’t get rid of the anti theft warning (original key fob is programmed again )
yes it sounds like there was an issue with new key fob - successfully programming a second key should solve the issue

cadillac dealer wants $229 just to program! (2O21 XT5) thats not even buying fob from them..
I have 2 working remotes, #1 and #3 and would like to have them numbered #1 and #2 so that #3 will work with the memory features. Should I just run this procedure on #1 and #3? Thanks
Yes, do this procedure and re-program both remotes. The order in which you program them in will determine Remote 1 and Remote 2. If you look at the steps in the description box of the video, you need to repeat steps 4-6 for the second remote after the first one is programmed.
Im not sure I understand If this is for a lost key fob only, what do you use for a key to cut the new key fob. I have a key fob and I just want an extra one. Will it work that way?

What if you have a working remote and a new one?
You will need to re-program the working remote while you do the procedure. If you look at the numbered steps in the description box, you need to repeat steps 4-6 for each remote. Also, you will need the working remote far enough away from the vehicle so it cant be recognized to get the vehicle into programming mode.
@@PYR-Auto The working one will not work after the programing is completed. Step 3 erases it. He needs to program it with the new one.

The whole remote programs in at the same time so there must be an issue with the remote or the vehicle it self. Did the trunk button work on your previous fobs?

If you have a working remote and want a second remote is the procedure the same.

I have two fobs for my 2017 Xt5...one that works and the other doesn't. I replaced the battery and it still didn't work so I figured I needed to reprogram it. Will this method erase the one that does work?
Yes although it should be able to be reprogrammed

2014 XT5 Luxury. I changed the battery and it's not working.
It can but a remote should not need re-programming after just changing the battery so there may be other issues. Are you sure you installed the new battery correctly (not upside down)
I followed this video and it unlinked the main key and my car says theft deterrent system and only starts with the key in the slot thats it

Great Video!!! One question, when you say that you need to have the "Key Cut", what is involved to do so and where would you go to have that done?
The emergency key needs to be cut as it comes as a blank. You will need an automotive locksmith or dealership to cut it for you.

Had one fob and went to add another. Successfully got to "Ready for Remote 1", but the vehicle will not program the new fob. Old fob is now forgotten, and won't be programmed either. Have tried process multiple times with no success. Dealer is at a loss, (And can't bring it in since I don't have a programmed fob to start it.) Any suggestions?
its possible there was just an issue with the new fob. Have you tried starting the procedure over and re-programming your original fob as "remote 1"?
I lost one key fob to my 2017 XT5 and still have one key fob with emergency key. I have a brand new Escalade key fob without the emergency key. Can I program this Escalade key fob for my XT5, using the emergency key from the existing XT5 key fob?
Yes you can use the emergency key out of an existing fob to program a new one. However, I don't believe the Escalade and XT5 fob are compatible as they use different FCC ID's
I tried this a few times with no luck. Maybe I am doing something wrong!
First facts, car is a 2017 Cadillac, premium luxury model, there is no key transmitter holder in the area note in the video, (in fact the Chen console has a cell phone holder and the transmitter holder is in the bottom of the console). I lost one complete fob so I bought an After market one that looks identical to my original, except it is missing the logo. I did not get the key cut, just want to have the remote fob, is that the cause of the failure?
So I followed the instructions AFTER I watched the video and printed the written instructions to help follow. I get nothing, no msg on the dash…nothing. I replaced the battery in the new one, still nothing, suggestion’s? Suggestions? Thanks

Thank you for posting. I have tried to add a fob to my 2017 ctsv and ended up having to go through the entire 30 minute process. I saw the comments to just do 4-6 steps however the steps aren't really "numbered" and rather confusing to just add a fob. Or if the video mentioned during the instructions "if your just adding a fob then" or if your programing more than one fob when you would add in the second.
Anyway if possible can you tell me do I need to place the key in the door and start from the beginning to add a fob? If not where do I begin?
I did that and had to add back the original fob as it didn't remember it after some trial and error. Its back up and running but don't want to go down that road again to try to add this fob.
If you look at the steps in the description box of the video they are clearly numbered. So you do the procedure just as its done in the video, when you finish step 6 with your fist fob ( Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press unlock or lock on the transmitter ), then you go back to step 4 and start from there with your additional fob.
He will not be able to go back if he has held the start button down for 12 seconds. He needs to start over
You repeat steps 4-6 for the additional remote before exiting programming mode (holding down button for 12 seconds)

You can try but these remotes shouldn't require re-programming. Have you tired changing the battery in the remote?
Did you something with the QI Charger? There is a internal antenna for the fob inside at the QI Charger.
Is it possible to program a used second key fob from a different XT5? I have one original key and key fob.

My car stays stuck in programming mode and every time I go to drive my car I have to hold the start button for 12 seconds to take it off programming mode and then I can start. I also now have a theft deterrent message displayed. How do I fix this issue
Programming a second remote can usually resolve the issue of the vehicle being stuck in programming mode
