Well, it is confusing that now even car reporters are working with alternative facts XD in reality, the 430d is a 6 cylinder with 3 Liter. AND the current 6 series is a sleeker 5 series. So you made is more confusing than it actually is.
I agree unless your a clueless car reviewer who doesn't really know what shes talking about... She tells you nothing about how the car feels but I guess theirs proper car reviewers for that!

Order numbers of practical cars even numbers are sporty coupes... The four series grand coupe, is the width and bullish styling of the four series sport models, it doesn’t suit the three series when you look at them side-by-side, plus the size and space inside and at the backend when you add the grand
It's so not confusing. First number is the series second and third numbers are the engine size and the letter is the fuel type

I came here for the 420d GC and got a tour of BMW model numbering. Disappointed.
Totally misleading about the engine sizes! 420 is a 4-cylinder while 430 is an inline 6-cylinder.
430d is six.
430i is four.
