Thank you for this video. I teach my Khmer 5 year old grandson and I am surprised that we have many different spoken languages which may confuse a Khmer child! My grandson remembers your name, Lok Kroo! I am fluent in Khmer speaking but find this video quite interesting :)

Many thanks for this lesson. I will now listen out for the change in pronunciation. Would you say it is better to use the 'official way' when communicating with locals - as they would be more used to hearing it from non-native speakers?
@Graeme Price , My suggestion are:
- If you are not yet fluent or your accent still a lot different from native speaker, then you better use the official/written pronunciation.
- If your Khmer speaking language is more fluent or you can adapt your accent similar to the native speaker, then it is good to use the speaking/common language pronunciation to get more closer to local people.

Quick question, is there a difference between saying salt and the number seven when speaking colloquially? They really sound the same. Is there a key difference in pronunciation?
Salt has more of an "m to b" sound while 7 had a "m to p" sound. It's like the difference with saying bell and pell. Hope that helps.

Does bpram continue to get shortened to bpm'/hm' as you go up through the 30s, 40s, 50s, etc? Does bpii continue to change to bpil as you go up as well? These videos are awesome btw :)
For number 5 you can not use "bpm/hm". For 6 you can use only "bpram/bpm" and from 7 to 9 you can use "bpram/bpm/hm". For "bpii" to "bpil" you can use only for 7 (Ex. 7, 17, 27, 37....700, 7,000...etc.)
Nice way to make counting in Khmer more confusing. All of my Cambodian neighbors and shop owners speak their numbers in official Khmer. The woman that lives in the next apartment to me watched this video and laughed. KISS...keep it simple ...
Disagree with your statement. The way it's explained in this video is exactly how numbers are said by native speakers. Some say it formally, but most of the time when speaking Khmer we shortcut a lot of words and phrases to make it flow faster.

Hi, S. Taera. For 0 (zero / saun), you can use either but mostly for casual speaking, you always hear "saun" rather than "zero".
