    Good job.. A lot of years ago I ran a 700 Bobcat digging swimming pools.. I have ran or owned almost every kind of bobcat.. I bought new, a 974 Bobcat, which had a 7 foot 2 inch bucket on it.. What a dream to run.. So much power, and fast as t had a two speed.. They did not make many of them.. Mine was number 46 off the assembly line..

      How cool! Ive got about $5500 in this, and works super good for an inexpensive little Bobcat.

    If anyone is contemplating doing any work on their 700 Series Bobcat, this series is the 'bible' for those who do not have the knowledge that you have displayed in your four part videos. Great work from a great teacher.😄

      Hi, Steve...............Thank you for your kind words. If only I could have watched your four episodes in the early 2000's, I would have saved an incredible amount of time and money rebuilding my 310 Bobcat and my 440B. I was one of those individuals who took on the rebuild tasks with a service manual and nothing else. Boy did I suffer. You were not only knowledgeable but you are a great teacher. My thanks again to you for showing the way to do it rightl

    The Bob Cat revolutionized the construction industry and has evolved into an essential job sight tool!
    I am old enough to have seen the first ones on the job, before roll cages glass rear windows and safety bars. I wonder how many men have been killed in accidents that precipitated the improvements? They are made by many companies now and the track version is the one to have!

    I have not watched all 4 parts, one thing if it hasn't been mentioned is to grease the 3 zerts on the ujoint every 250hrs. They're out sight and hard to access.

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Have not heard that. Great advice! Better look into that.

    • @hddoug72
      @hddoug72 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Steve's Beyond Repair Unless you have a service manual, easy to miss. The way I have done it is lift the rops and bump the starter until the 3 zerts face the rh side of the pump to access them. You thenhave to lay on your stomach and feel for the zerts...the ujoint is just behind the pump. The first time I did this I notched a line on the crank pulley and block to at least make it a little easier next time. Then I personally use red lithium grease in a dedicated grease gun with 2 rubber lines joined together for the needed length. I then crawl in again on my stomach and find those zerts and my wife pumps the grease gun as I attach the hose nipple to the zerts. Kind of a pain... perhaps someone will chime in on an easier way.

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can so visualize this!!! So it is exposed between the engine and pump?

    • @hddoug72
      @hddoug72 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StevesBeyondRepair Yes it is. It is a tight fit in and around the hoses on the rh side of pump and it helps to have smaller hands and forearms to reach around to the back of pump. Hope that helps.

    very cool. you are a gifted mechanic. i just got a 742 with a 4 cylinder ford gas engine. runs well. my parking brake is floppy and doesn't work. also has a bit of creep so going to tackle similar things as you did. i'm not very mechanical but gonna give it a go! I also have at least one weeping hydraulic hose. i figure i better replace that before i top off the hydraulic fluid and put in a new filter. how do i know if i can remove a hose without losing a bunch of fluid? Or should I just assume a bunch will come out? Any ideas where i can get a replacement hose? Thanks so much for your wonderful videos - you should charge for these!

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. Hose replacement and loss of fluid will depend on hose location. I hose up higher, you wont loose much. I rebuild one on the drive hydraulic motors, had three hoses on it. I bought a cheap set of silicone hose plugs off Amazon to shove in the hose when I removed the motor you could do the same if you took a hose off. Shove it in the opening where the hose came from. Search, silicone hose plug kit on amazon. Adjusting the creep out was a challenge!!!

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Joe! Normally to drain and fill on mine, you would have to have some kind of suction machine to get chain case fluid out thru the fill level plug in the front of chain case. Since I had chain case covers off, I just filled from there. 👍👍

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe, Awesome! I didnt flush mine. I did change the filter. If I was going to drain mine, the hose is in the bottom of the oil tank, and follow the hose over to the valve on the right side. could undo it there and let it drain out.

      @StevesBeyondRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chain case dosen't have a filter. The hydraulic system does and it in the engine compartment. Now from what I understand there may be a screen filter on the hydraulic inlet to the port block on the right side. I did not mess with that.

    Steve, how difficult is it to line up the u joint when reinstalling the engine? Pulling my engine out to clean and rebuild the spool valves that leak. Do you reach around and guide it on pump shaft?

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't have to pull motor. If I have to mess with spool valve, I will try to seal it in place, or get it out somehow. It is tight in there for sure. And if I were reinstalling the engine, would probably have to enlist some help, like you said, I would be hanging over the hydraulic pump inlet guiding the ujoint while someone is shoving engine in!😁

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This little 743 was in bad shape, and it seems the only thing that wasn't leaking was the spool valve!! I'm headed out to my land with it today, and put some hours on it and see if I find any weaknesses. I'll try to see if the lift and drop has the float on it. The back of the spool valve for that lift function will look different...sticks out further, and I simply have not noticed that on mine.

    • @StevesBeyondRepair
      @StevesBeyondRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have the float! A hard push on the left pedal drops arms down to float position!
