Do you use Clip Studio? What other tools or features should I try out?

You may already know this, but I recently discovered that Clip Studio supports adjustment layers in the same way that Photoshop does, so you don't necessarily need to merge your layers to a flat image before making colour adjustments. If you want to make some adjustments but keep painting underneath, you can do that! Of course you may still need to paint on top afterwards to integrate the changes, but I often just make a new layer for that - it depends on your preference, but it's good to know your options! :) I can't remember how many of the filters it supports, but it definitely includes brightness/contrast and levels adjustments.
I love all your paintings and this one is no different - I've always admired your use of colour and your control over the composition. I think this timelapse taught me that I don't necessarily lack the technical skill to create paintings as beautiful as this, I just need to take more time over the planning - which is very encouraging! Thank you for sharing!

This is great to know, I’ll have to give adjustment layers in CSP a try next time!! I hadn’t realized that was possible !
And man it’s so true, planning makes SUCH a big difference for me, I found that when I started planning out my illustrations more thoroughly, it reduced the amount of times I quit halfway through dramatically. I think the overall results improved too! I know not everyone likes to have a straightforward planning stage but it definitely helps me a ton

I had no idea it had all of the tools in it's disposal that you used. I use the pgoram mostly for fun and had no idea it had all of this depth into it. Thanks for showcasing this. Next time I hop into it now, I for sure going to experiment more on it. I subbed as well. :)

I truly love that the Internet allows us to gain such insightful knowledge into the process of other artists, I learned so much by watching this video! I've been using CSP for around six years, but without any prior Photoshop or illustration program experience, I'm still constantly learning about features within Clip Studio that I never knew existed. I've been wanting to start learning digital painting, but it always seems intimidating, yet seeing your process, though it takes a lot of practice and experience to improve, shows that it isn't as complicated as I've been thinking! Of course, I need to learn color balancing, and lighting first, as well as get better at working in perspective and imagining the 3D space, it can be hard to figure these things out without being taught, so videos like these, that share this knowledge for free, are a godsend!
I've been following you on Twitter for years, but this is my first time watching a video of yours! Time to subscribe!

Amazing work as always! The one thing I really love about Clip is it's diversity and the ease of setting up the workspace for your own personal needs.
One thing I use is the Navigation window. It's like having multiple tools in one; it zooms (with a few different presets for that, including a 100% zoom, as well as "fit to nav" and "fit to zoom"), and it rotates, including resetting the rotation with a click of a button. It's also an easy flip-canvas short cut! I think it would be really help you, as I saw you flipping your canvas a lot.

It can be seriously tough to adjust to a new program, I totally understand what you mean. It took me about 3 days of spending an hour each day just playing around with tools and panels to feel comfortable enough to get going on this! I think for me a big part was just getting past the overwhelm of learning all the new menus and symbols and where everything is. Once I did that, I realized that functionally, it was very similar to what I was used to, and I ended up really enjoying the new tools. I hope you end up enjoying your experience too if you give it a try!

@@DevinElleKurtzArt Thank you so much. I think that is a good approach. I went through the same process of switching from a program I'm used to (PS and Sai, to CSP). A friend had bought a Wacom tablet and it came with a 12 months CSP Pro subscription and he gave it to me to try it (he already had the lifetime CSP higher tier). I honestly didn't like it at first because it felt very overwhelming and complicated. There are so many buttons and so many options for every little tool. Fast forward 1 month, and I was using CSP 100% of the time hahah. I won't go crazy and do a review, especially because I'm a total fan now, but I honestly consider that it's the ultimate drawing/painting program because of how complete the tools are. And considering its price, it feels like a steal tbh (especially that it's often on discount). I even prefer it by a long stretch to Procreate on my newly bought iPad. There are tons of tutorials, on YT especially on their channel and website.

In total the recording was about 32 hours and I’d say yes, my guess is that in photoshop it would have been more like 20-25 hours! There’s always some extra time involved with new programs! CSP is my own art program of choice, so it was neat to see you use CSP beyond just demonstrating your CSP brushes (which are also great by the way). My own favorite features are the tool property menu because of it's small size. It's so easy to modify brushes on the fly without calling up a big menu that covers the screen unlike in Photoshop or the Affinity programs. Also, I really like the sub tool system rather than everything just being considered a "brush." Makes it really easy to switch between brushes, pencils, pens, and the like with shortcut keys. Maybe CSP's best feature is just how customizable the interface is overall.

And I have a question if you have time to kindly answer. I have the weirdest process for digital painting! I've never seen anyone doing it this way! I do the line art in Abobe Illustrator, add flat colours, which in my opinion results in a clean satisfying piece, and then add light and shadow and texture in Photoshop! Should I stop doing it this way? Is this process so wrong?

Thank you for using Vietnamese instead of Chinese when you prefer to lanterns. Most people get this wrong but Mid-Autumn Festival origins from Vietnam. All of the video I search always say "Chinese lanterns", it's frustrating.

Procreate is still better imo in certain aspects. Price wise, simplicity and convenience. It has everything a artist needs, especially on the go

I have so many friends who adore procreate but it’s been a real uphill battle for me to get my footing with! I’m finally comfortable sketching in it but painting hasn’t been easy yet hahaha I do want to keep trying until I get there because the convenience factor

Seeing your face is amazing - YES I know that's creepy. BUT PLEASE HEAR ME OUT. 10 years ago, I would come in from school, 12 yr old me would sit at photoshop with my old af tablet and browse DeviantART. My three favourite artists to check up on new uploads was TamberElla, Yuumei, and TincekMarincek. I hope you guys know how much of an impact you had on us younger folks who are grown ups today! I still check up on all three of you - and continue to be amazed by what fantastic professionals you all are now. It feels like I'm seeing a long time old acquaintance, whose art is a teddy bear that got me through many tough days and is partly why I never stopped drawing! So thank you :) keep up the great work as always!!!! (I only wish to know which artists you used to look up to back then!)
