YES!! I have been trying to track down the actual song. The only recording I had heard was the one where Billy was playing his autoharp, and got snapped out of it by the off stage sound. I really liked what he was doing, but sadly never got to hear the rest of the chart... Until now. Thank you for sharing!!
Oh it wasn't an off stage sound, one of his autoharp strings snapped. I play myself and when they go they can actually cause serious damage they're that tensioned :)
I love everything this lovely man has done and hopefully will still do he is as funny now as he has ever been . God bless you Billy and bless you too Pammy .
The moon's silver fingers crept over the mountain On a deep purple Arkansas night The red lights were glowin' The red wine was flowin' The couples danced into the night Deep in the forest a bluebird was sleepin' Where only the coyote calls The dancers were swayin' The band it was playin' An old fashioned Tennessee waltz He stood in the shadows The black hatted stranger He stayed well away from the bar She could see his mustache And his blue tinted glasses In the glow from his five cent cigar She walked right up to him and said, "Hello stranger" He answered, "It's chilly for June" They swarmed arm in arm to the edge of the dancefloor And a black cloud sailed over the moon Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz You've heard it before, you'll hear it again Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz Young ladies beware of mysterious young men With glides and with sachets They swept the floor softly She felt she was dancing on air But his hands felt so cold and his eyes looked so old As he gave her that come with me stare She saw no danger but who was this stranger Was he real, was he true, was he false She took a chance and she lost Her last dance was the old fashioned Tennessee waltz Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz You've heard it before, you'll hear it again Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz Young ladies beware of mysterious young men Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz You've heard it before, you'll hear it again Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz Young ladies beware of mysterious young men
I love the story of this a girl meeting a mysterious man she's taken a shine to and he's a gentleman. It's not Tennessee it's everywhere, and it's righteous. Dance with your ladies, gentlemen.
A beautiful song I've just discovered this it's 2 am and I've dug out my humblebums lp with Billy and Tam Harvey. If you haven't heard it check it out. It has some great banjo and self penned songs by billy

In one of his live DVD's Billy Plays the Autoharp at the start of this song. He doesn't get very far into the song before he is interrupted by a loud noise offstage. I wish this version had the Autoharp introduction.
It was actually one of the strings on his auto harp snapping! It sounded loud as it was picked up by his mike! I was there that night ,at the Apollo Victoria in London, trying not to wet myself with laughter! He was,and still is, a very funny man!
@@wolfman515 Peewee's song is a different Tennessee Waltz that tells a different story to a different tune. I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz When an old friend I happened to see I introduced him to my darlin' and while they were dancing My friend stole my sweetheart from me.

The moon's silver fingers crept over the mountain
On a deep purple Arkansas night
The red lights were glowin'
The red wine was flowin'
The couples danced into the night
Deep in the forest a bluebird was sleepin'
Where only the coyote calls
The dancers were swayin'
The band it was playin'
An old fashioned Tennessee waltz
He stood in the shadows
The black hatted stranger
He stayed well away from the bar
She could see his mustache
And his blue tinted glasses
In the glow from his five cent cigar
She walked right up to him and said, "Hello stranger"
He answered, "It's chilly for June"
They swarmed arm in arm to the edge of the dancefloor
And a black cloud sailed over the moon
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
You've heard it before, you'll hear it again
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Young ladies beware of mysterious young men
With glides and with sachets
They swept the floor softly
She felt she was dancing on air
But his hands felt so cold and his eyes looked so old
As he gave her that come with me stare
She saw no danger but who was this stranger
Was he real, was he true, was he false
She took a chance and she lost
Her last dance was the old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
You've heard it before, you'll hear it again
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Young ladies beware of mysterious young men
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
You've heard it before, you'll hear it again
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Young ladies beware of mysterious young men

I love the story in this song. Billy sounds great in this menacing tale! Who wrote the song? I can’t find any information on it.
Billy wrote it
@@wolfman515 Billy wrote it...no one else.
