I love how Billy is very knowledgeable and intelligent so you listen intently and then he throws in a “goose farting in the fog” so he catches you off guard all the time. I bet his young children had an absolute whale of a time. Bless you Billy
Let's not forget Steve Martin, hilarious comedian and very talented banjo musician. When you listen to him doing banjo straight (or even in a humorous context) you can really see the technical skill and heartfelt musicality.
@johnc3403 He was shit because he ended up in the wrong job. Was beaten by his father and had no education so I'll give him a break as his come so far from where he started
Billy came to see, as I did, the absurdity of the human situation, and thought he'd take the piss out of it to make a decent living laughing at it and getting us to do the same. It's either that or cry, and he clearly made the wiser choice. @@cjackson6482
Sitting near Billy in a cafe once, I heard him tell the owner that his wife Pamela, who was away at the time, had left the vacuum cleaner in the hall for him, but it hadn't moved all week !
He was a musician before becoming a comedian, he can play the banjo, guitar and fiddle too, in fact his talent is such that I’m sure he could play any instrument he picked up…

Curious - no one mentioned his closing with "Waltzing Matilda" - look it up, Australia's unofficial bush ballad; Pamela would have some influence over his liking for it. Go Billy.

A Very talented man musically, and this is what sets him apart other Comedians!!!

Talent & intelligence like this is sadly a thing of the past, just like class. Days long gone.
The big yin and Gerry Rafferty went separate ways after the humble bums, both were absolutely amazingly gifted
I've yet to find something Billy can't do or isn't good at. From a welder to a magician. Incredible.
A true renaissance man.
..apparently he was a pretty shit welder but yeah, we know what you mean.

He really is a class act...I could listen to his music all day.
Have you heard him with Gerry Rafferty, the group is called The Humble Bums.Well worth a listen
I grew up in Nashville This is better than the music produced today in the home of Country Music
Recorded in 1981
They have lost their roots
Ive genuinely been inspired by this, its taken me down a classic folk music path and ive just purchased one for myself. Thanks for the upload

Probably the first wife?
That was beautiful to listen to. I never knew he could play that instrument.
You'll find more in the film Lemony Snicket.
He does a nice rendition of Waltzing Matilda in French on his tour of Australia

Fantastic. I keep playing it over and over. Xxx

LYRICS FOR THIS VERSION
Oh the moon's silver fingers,
Slid over the mountain
On a deep purple Arkansas night
The red wine was flowing
The red lights were glowing
The dancers waltzed into the night
Away in the forest a blue bird was sleeping
Where only the coyote calls
The dancers were swaying
The band started playing,
an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
You've heard it before and you'll hear it
again
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Young ladies beware, of mysterious young men
He stood in the shadows the black hatted
stranger
He stayed well away from the bar
She could see his moustache and his blue
tinted glasses
And the glow from his five cent cigar
She walked right up to him and said Hello
stranger
While the band played an old fashioned tune
They swanned arm in arm to the edge of
the dancefloor
And a dark cloud sailed over the moon
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
You've heard it before and you'l hear it
again
Just an old fashioned Tennessee waltz
Young ladies beware of mysterious young
men

Beautiful Billy ❤
The sweet sound coming from this instrument and the tune is so pretty it makes me cry.
Just have to love that! Thanks Billy, x
Beautiful autoharp and Beautiful Billy
I saw Billy play folk on stage with Gerry Raffery. The Humblebums. It could have been the 1960s I'm not sure. A musician at the start.
My mum and dad used to dance to this in the kitchen decades ago, happy memories :)
Im back again listening to this
I play this over and over ...love it ..❤
I can't stop listening to this!
Me neither. I play it every night before I go in ♥️♥️♥️
Curious - no one mentioned his closing with "Waltzing Matilda" - look it up, Australia's unofficial bush ballad; Pamela would have some influence over his liking for it. Go Billy.
Well I live in Australia and this was on the ABC, thus my extra love for the tune.
More of his playing in the Lemony Snicket film.

This is my new favourite Billy Connolly piece 😊..what's the instrument called?
I believe it’s called an Autoharp 😀
@@icarusandtherabbit
Yes. Autoharp is correct.
is that an electric harp?
It’s called an Autoharp, or chord zither is a string instrument belonging to the zither family. (According to Wiki) 🙂
