Emu's are similar to ostriches in the way of small beaks & long necks. I use to volunteer at a native animal sanctuary here in Australia where we had emu's to feed, what they ate was dry dog food along with finely chopped broccoli, colliflower & peas, corn, capsicum & most of the leafy greens. Never feed birds avacardo as it kills them. Guys your doing great with the new addition & he seems to be settling into morrow land well, love how your reading his body language so we'll too.
I was wondering if Carl could have capsicum, I know parrot mixes have dried whole chilis in them so I was talking at my screen "get him the chilis and yes those are beets, get them too!"

I could have told you there would be no produce at a gas station or dollar store, and I live in Canada Lester ... lol, but your love and excitement for Carl is awesome! Please use the hanging feed bucket for Carl that Jake opened in his gift & goodies video? It would give Carl a permanent place to get his food & higher up. They love to eat lizards, crickets, roots, leaves, snakes, carrots & broccoli. Did you know they have 3 stomachs?! They also don't need to drink water, but will if it's available. Ostriches are from ancient times not changing much. 😁💜

So you're taking the time to truly work with Carl. To learn what scares him, teach him he's safe there & that you're his friend. Even more than the other Littles he needs to be worked with like you are Lester. Especially since he'll hopefully live for a very long time. I am quite impressed with everything you've done for him to insure he's happy & healthy. Great job!!! Besides like us you're just tickled pink that you actually have an ostrich. An amazing animal that you never thought that you'd ever have. So you're excited about it. I'm excited to see how you work with Carl. I'm hoping you can learn the things zoos teach their ostriches in order to make giving them medical care easier on everyone. As well as safer. But for now you just need to keep doing what you're doing to make friends with him first. So he learns he's safe there. Then you can start anything else. Also I love the videos on Carl. Lester did really good. Was worried Carl was not eating enough for a big bird. Try some fruit too. Most animals love some fruit too like melon or watermelon. Maybe some cucumber too and apples. Mangoes are sweet too. Lester you are so right about kindness. This is why we moved to Central America. We love the people here. An example was yesterday. My husband has been sick. The young boy who is a neighbor asked if he could come and weed our garden. I let him. He is trying to learn English and us trying to learn Spanish. We laugh at each others pronunciations. They are a sweet family. Kindness abounds on both sides now.
My Momma and I love to shop at the Dollar store and Dollar General. It’s a good thing you did giving Carl variety. Now all you have to think about maybe doing is get Carl hanging feed buckets so it’s easier for him to eat. Love the little Spanish lesson in this video. Love this video 😊

I love Carl, he seems such a beautiful soul. I do have a suggestion, since Carl has no teeth, try cutting his "greens and veggies" up in smaller pieces, so it's not so hard for him to eat ? He ate a lot, but all those big pieces were left ... love and hugs to All ... and Lester, you Did Good !

I never realised until you got Carl that they have to have things cut up to about the size of a grape in order to swallow them. Carl seemed to be smiling at the end. He got to eat and then share what was left with the littles. Soon he will be as rounded as Ringo from being son well fed. I may not comment on every video, but I sure do love them.

I agree Lester..i haven't been able to get out..the last 18 months..so instacart delivers my groceries..I told my grandson the other day..I've enjoyed the these ppl so much..it's like they are delivering to there grandma..it's been so nice..❤

We have a town near us,Arcadia,Florida, has several Mexican produce stands. My husband and I worked in Arcadia and I loved shopping at those stands. Always kind and friendly, always concerned that we got a good product. I enjoyed shopping there and miss it now that we’re retired😔

Can Carl even differentiate things in front of him to eat, I wonder? He can surely see things, but does he know the difference between the food? He's an interesting guy and you are so fun to watch with him. We are all learning. But one thing is for sure, he never got this attention at his old farm...he's in ostrich heaven!

We're seeing all the babies. But Carl is the new kid on the block. Plus he's a big powerful animal that could be dangerous at times. So you're taking the time to truly work with Carl. To learn what scares him, teach him he's safe there & that you're his friend.
Even more than the other Littles he needs to be worked with like you are Lester. Especially since he'll hopefully live for a very long time.
I am quite impressed with everything you've done for him to insure he's happy & healthy.

Besides like us you're just tickled pink that you actually have an ostrich. An amazing animal that you never thought that you'd ever have. So you're excited about it. I'm excited to see how you work with Carl.
I'm hoping you can learn the things zoos teach their ostriches in order to make giving them medical care easier on everyone. As well as safer.
But for now you just need to keep doing what you're doing to make friends with him first. So he learns he's safe there. Then you can start anything else.
Also I love the videos on Carl. He's amazing & we're still seeing the other Littles in videos whose main character is Carl.

Lester did really good. Was worried Carl was not eating enough for a big bird. Try some fruit too. Most animals love some fruit too like melon or watermelon. Maybe some cucumber too and apples. Mangoes are sweet too. Lester you are so right about kindness. This is why we moved to Central America. We love the people here. An example was yesterday. My husband has been sick. The young boy who is a neighbor asked if he could come and weed our garden. I let him. He is trying to learn English and us trying to learn Spanish. We laugh at each others pronunciations. They are a sweet family. Kindness abounds on both sides now.
My Momma and I love to shop at the Dollar store and Dollar General. It’s a good thing you did giving Carl variety. Now all you have to think about maybe doing is get Carl hanging feed buckets so it’s easier for him to eat. Love the little Spanish lesson in this video. Love this video 😊

I love Carl, he seems such a beautiful soul. I do have a suggestion, since Carl has no teeth, try cutting his "greens and veggies" up in smaller pieces, so it's not so hard for him to eat ? He ate a lot, but all those big pieces were left ... love and hugs to All ... and Lester, you Did Good !

LESTER YOU DID GOOD 🥰 I love those produce shops on the side of the road! Everyone is always so nice and helpful. Looks like carl is really getting comfortable 🖤 I'm loving that his personality is coming out.
Maybe a feed trough/dish that attaches to the top of your fence would help you give Carl the treats. Have you tried sliced cucumbers and Kiwi? If he likes the squashed grapes you gave him maybe he would like other juicy fruits and vegetables too. Am enjoying learning about ostriches along with you. Of course, still love your varied menagerie too! Blessings!

Lester- You did good. I love that we can go on this Ostrich experience/adventure with you. I never realised until you got Carl that they have to have things cut up to about the size of a grape in order to swallow them. I understand your fascination with Carl and because you have other family making videos too I still get to see some of the other babies too.
Oh and those were beets that you saw at the market though over here we call them beetroot. ❤️ 🇬🇧
