    Every fly that you tie is a work of art. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill with us. I would love to have a couple of your flies autographed so I could hang in my tying room. Thanks again.

    Vay-er-tea. Like that fly, has elements of a Kate Mclaren and the straggly bushiness of an Ordie plus a bumble.

    That looks like it would do well. Lots of life in the design, without being too complicated. It looks like it will lend itself to small pattern changes for local waters. What is not to like!!

    I can vouch for this being effective on Loch Veyatie many times. Also it's cousin the Veyatie Silver.

    Very nice pattern. Would this be considered a soft hackle type fly?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dominique,
      It can be due to the front hackle and as I said if you would take away the body hackle it would certainly be classed as a soft hackle pattern..I'm glad you liked it.

    Hello Davie, I really enjoy watching your videos on youtube. It's like that I tye flies too, but I wind in the wrong direction. Somehow when wrapping the hook and material, I wrap it in exactly the opposite direction as you and others. Is it important? Should I change my habit? Or is it left to itself. I've been tying for 3 years now and I'm doing very well. Is it really that important? Or are there others who feel the same when winding the thread?

    • @kerrypitt9789
      @kerrypitt9789 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may just tie left handed? If it works keep doing it.

      Hi Stefan,
      I know many fly tyers that do this and there's nothing with it, if you are happy with your flies and they are catching fish then carry on..I know I have changed the way I have tyed my flies over the years many times and you will do this too as we are always learning that's why I have never got bored with this great hobby.I'm glad yo enjoyed the videos..

    When u fish with wetflies, are u using just regular floating line? Or how do u get flyes to go under the surface? Mayby stupid quastion but i still learning😀

    • @leemcdonald2719
      @leemcdonald2719 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually start with a floating line, some times an intermediate (slow sinking) line. Degrease your leader and the wet flys tend to sink after the 2nd or 3rd cast. You can get products which you apply to flys to get them sinking if need be.

      @DavieMcPhail  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Zeko Kasu,
      I mostly fish a floating line though a slow to a fast intermediate can be useful depending on the water you are fishing or if you can a full sinking line when it's cold can be very good..It all depends on the water you are fishing as well either from the bank or from a boat. I can get away with fishing small waters just with a floating line and weighted flies rather than fishing a sinking line as I do prefer the floating line..It's certainly not a stupid question...
      All the very best Davie

    Hey cool fly Davie! Looks great. I am really new to fly tying and was wondering if someone could answer a couple questions for me?
    1. Does varnish act in the same way Zappa Gap or a glue does? And how does wax help in locking down the stem? Is it similar to wax sticking to dubbing? Thanks! 🎣
