Now guys, please remember before you go explaining what Ace meant that the show doesn't reveal what he meant until the start of NEXT episode! Be patient, please, hahaha.
I don't wanna read any "Well from context you can figure out that..." stuff - the show explains it in time, my friends. 🤫

I love how One piece just drops some sick lore out of nowhere like a bridge being built for centuries in the east blue of all places and also off handedly mentions that countries and people who don't agree to join the world government are treated like criminals

I love that Brook's land is called Harahettania which translates to Hungeria (harahetta is what Luffy says when he says he hungy)

As the anime progresses there is a lot more 'canon filler' where they add additional scenes to arcs. Sometimes this is good, such as taking a fight that was offpage and moving it onscreen or expanding cover stories into episodes. Usually this is terrible though like adding rounds to the Davy Back fight, adding bad jokes, expanding impactful scenes till all impact from them is lost, repeating flashbacks multiple times, and of course adding long repeated tracking shots. Thanks to some extremely dedicated people you can look up each episode of One Piece and see what was added to it that wasn't in the manga.

Okay. I've seen your pinned comment, but there is something I NEED to point out in regards to that.
Because that whole thing? That is *exclusively* due to the localisation; in these subtitltes in particular.
The word Ace uses is oyaji. He has used it way back when he was meeting Buggy, when talking about Whitebeard.
And we've heard other members of Whitebeards people use the same word, back when he met Shanks about a hundred episodes ago.
Up until this point, these subtitles translated it with old man, instead of the word picked now. Which is not to say that they are wrong, because oyaji is quite an interesting word.
It's a word that isn't used in polite language and can be translated several ways because it's synonymous for several things. At it's most basic, it can mean "old man", not just as in an old geezer but also as in someone's old man; as in their father. But it's also something you might use for your boss.
All of these are right, given the right context and the translators had to pick a meaning to use and the english localisation team quite reasonably picked old man originally.
But that means if you speak the original language, there is no surprise reveal here at all, because Ace just keeps using the same word he has always used.
If you grew up with other subs or dubs, you might already be familiar with this too. For instance, the German dub that I personally grew up with has alternated the words used in a way that the multi layer meaning of oyaji came across in from the start. My point being that this moment of stunned surprise that most people face when watching this epsiode with these subtitles without that context is entirely unique to this particular way of experiencing One Piece.

You know, I never made the Kaguya/Hancock comparison but now I totally see it.
And we see Perona again, that makes me happy. Zoro is probably a lot less happy though lol. I liked these episodes, especially Robin and Tequila Wolf. While the cover stories were nice it was good to see the crew's experiences in more detail.

About the animation, It's okay that you don't like it, but to clarify, 420 was directed by Naoki Tate, he is a legendary animator from Toei, his art is loose and some people think that is bad animation, but it's the opposite, it's so much fluid and, in my opinion, it's great.

Oh interesting! Thanks for letting me know. I feel like generally I like that smooth animation style. I think in this episode it almost felt out of place but I couldn't tell you why. I'm sure if he does future episodes of One Piece I'll love the stuff he does.

Perona is really not a bad person, she is just bratty and likes to be spoiled - calling herself a "princess" fits. After being sent away by Kuma she has been alone all the time and longs for any kind of companionship. In Archetype-terms she is somewhat of a Tsundere who annoys everyone on first sight but can be kind when opening up...
Her bad luck is that Zoro is not really the approchable type, but even among the straw hats SHE could have gotten worse.

I feel like Oda is pretty progressive as a middle aged japanese shonen writer. Like, clearly, the inhabitants of Kamabakka aren't exactly a great portrayal of trans/crossdressing culture, but I feel like he also learns a lot during this time. If the live action ever depicts this island I feel like a lot of changes would be made, and Oda would likely be very ok with, if not outright encourage it. Some people like to think Oda likes mocking minorities, but that's just untrue. He simply likes mocking everyone the same, himself included, which unfortunately comes with certain sterotyping. But like, it's clearly not badly intented. He's a man who loves his jokes is all.
Also I love the artstyle in Robin's side story. It kinda gives me movie 6 vibes. Also also, I love how Perona is back!!

I've watched westerners reaction and other reaction channels and I have realised westerner have very weird ideologies about the world, it's closed and unaware about the rest of the world and the story where it's coming from and who are the target audiance. They ask weird questions without understanding anything any emotions of the estern countries.

@@royalfun1031 yeah, right. Global south viewers are not this sensitive, we have real hard work, it has to be too wild for it to be sensitive, this dude is still stuck at her kicking at the dogs, yeah it's bad but we forget instantly after that and they also talks about trauma. We don't even know what that was until we started learning foreign shit.if they're this soft that means we eat trauma for breakfast, lunch and dinner and shit it.
