if penny has to have the reins up there why dont you use a bit. and the reason penny isnt muscled and out of shape is because you havnt been riding her. it is actually very good for your horses to ride in snow it helps their joints.
@@DayByDayVlogsif she hates the bit you need to get a proper bit less bridle for her. Horses have many nerves in their face and when you are riding with your hands up like that you do not know what pressure you are putting on her face and how hard the pressure is. If u like riding western even a hackamore.
I think both Storm and Penny got a bit merry about heading home. And when Gabby collected Storm together, he had a grumpy moment because he was happy to jog back home. Personally I’d probably want to put a stop to that, because when horses get into a habit of tuning out and rushing back, it can lead to them tuning out regularly, and heaven forbid, you could be enjoying a ride and your horse decides he/she’s had enough, and they just haul ass to where they want to go. Xx
Laura!! Try to find some long winter riding jackets! Most of them will come with some sort of stretch or zipper so you can ride with them on. You can also try winter riding skirts! I’ve seen many of the Northern European riders use those in heavy winters. Also quarter sheets you can wrap around your waist instead of the saddle to keep you and your legs warm!
I have used western riding chaps. Stops the wind from blowing on your pants. And blue jeans are the coldest. Corduroy pants are the best they are warmer with longjohns. And I wear Alpaca socks.
It was such a pleasure seeing you & Gabby riding & Sophie walking Willow. Laura you are so much more relaxed--it's really good to see you enjoying riding your horse. I hope you can go on the trails in the park soon. Spring is so lovely in the woods.
Hey Laura and family! I love the bond you all build with your horses Penny did great for riding after the cold… Im from Michigan, which it gets quite cold… I also double layer usually put fleece lined leggings underneath my winter riding breeches, when it’s super cold I don’t even find a difference lol it keeps me warmer and more comfortable. For a coat maybe look for a double zipper coat so you can unzip at the bottom where you post so you’re not restricted but still lays over your leg and keeps you warm.
Laura I really would love to see you take some lessons this year with an instructor who’s confident with gated horses to help you with your riding and progress with penny. I think it would be really good for you and penny your groundwork with Penny seems to really have come together, but I really think some mounted lessons would really help you and Penny. Plus having someone experienced with gated horses I think would also be very educational for people, watching to be able to learn the differences in what looks good for a gated worse as their movement is different
I would LOVE that! Each year we have so many things we want to do and our season is so short. This year we have a bigger list than ever before and one thing is Def a me and penny journey!
@@DayByDayVlogs the best way to look at it is by taking the time and gaining the experience. It will then be an asset for the future for you. so it’s investing in you and pennies future strength and bond
I found it SUPER warm if you wear regular thin riding pants and then fluffy soft kerrit brand riding pants over them. It kept me warm in the 10-20 degrees!!!
You need to stop putting your saddles on top of the horses’ shoulder blades. Both the English and Western saddles are too far forward. Very noticeable in the English saddle that the rider is not sitting in the deepest part of the saddle, but towards the back. When the horse’s shoulders get painfully pinched under the saddle, they buck.
If you place some thing straight, like a yardstick on the English saddle from the pommel to the cantle, you can see when the saddle is level on the horse's back. Western saddles are a little more difficult because the cantle can be lower than the swells. With Western, you need to feel between the saddle and the horse that the hard tree tip is behind their shoulder blade.@@DayByDayVlogs
Good morning fam!! Up at 3 with back pain!! Uhgg Tried to go back to sleep but soon as i dozed off then Boots wanted out so i put on coffee. I Think everyone did great out there!! That was nice of Gabby to get yur saddle off and put away! See ya's in the next one!!
I can so relate with you re sore back, Sandy. It's the pits😫 Do hope it felt better throughout the day🙂. Do you have an adjustable electric bed? Mine sure helps me get a better sleep💤💤 Yes, that was kind of Gabby to take Laura's saddle if its anything like mine, it will weigh a ton!
I gave my horse the winter off too and went riding yesterday, was a little nervous because dont bounce back like i use too lol but Sadie did awesome, and she is blind in one eye, so i get why you were happy the ride went well
I’ve got a riding lesson this week and I’m terrified. I’ve not had a lesson in years, I have just been riding by myself and going on trail rides. I had been riding a baby horse last year and I had a couple of bad falls which has massively knocked my confidence. I’ve got a lovely horse on loan now so time to get back on my A game for show season ❤
I'm green with envy😃❤️ Thank goodness the memory of the first spring rides on fresh horses never gets old🥰 Always so invigorating for both horse & rider. Like Penny, I was surprised at Storm 😂 he's feeling gooood😃 I've never seen a gaited horse in New Zealand or Australia - not to say there isn't any as I don't get out n about much these days. Penny sure loved her outing as much as you and we did, Laura😃 What breed gives her, her straight legs, Laura? Sure would be fun to have a ride on her🥰 Love your western saddle - miss mine😥 They truly are a piece of art in themselves❤️ Maybe my wee Grandson Nate will ride in mine one day. He has my western hat and loves it bc it reminds him of me when I'm not there. We're a sentimental family🥰❤️ Great to see Sophie always enjoying talking one of her littlies on an outing❤️
She is a Tennessee walking horse. She has a four beat gait instead of 3. You would love riding her because she's so smooth and no matter how fast she goes, she doesn't get bumpy! I love western saddles too! I like a darker one better but I've come to love my saddle!
@@DayByDayVlogsOh, she's a lovely looking girl😃. Yes, to feel how she moves under saddle wld be fun. I have a hot seat and a love speed. Exactly! She needs to ride more to build muscle. Penny hates a bit. She is the happiest with the set up we use now
