im driving an 03 mustang gt with bolt ons but i love all the info on your chanel or blog i watch regularly ty i really enjoy your show to me your info is no.1 stuff very good thanks again im looking to get me a 88 fox and find me a clevland 351 and take my time and get a forged rotating assembly and a turbo so thanks again your an inspiration
Informative stuff. I had a 90 back in 96ish so no need for this info back then. Looking to buy a toy now, bummer these have some many problem areas, hopefully I can find a solid car. Are the front strut towers easy to inspect fully assembled? During the video I wish you had stepped back a bit between problem areas so I could better track where you were at exactly on the car but think this and another video I was able to piece it together.
Behind the gas tank, I helped my buddy do his, we removed the tank sandblasted and grinded out all the rust. Than we welded up a bunch of plates and reinforcements.
I just got thru repairing some nasty rust at the base of both A-pillars. Passenger side rotted out into the cowl area and air intake hat. Had water leaking into the floor and onto the computer in the kick panel area. Sometimes you think its a leaky windshield as I did until I pulled the fender off and saw the mess that it was. Thats one that can bite you because the air/heater box hides it on the inside and fender hides it on the outside. Just a word of warning folks. If you run a loud stereo with subs the little nuts that hold the quarter windows can vibrate loose and start a leak there as well. I am replacing the passenger rear floor pan over that deal. The car I have is an 87gt that spent its first few years in Michigan before it wound up in Florida where I bought it when it was only 9 years old. The hatch and both doors were replaced when it went it for a rehab/paint in 2002. Its been a love/hate with this one as it was my first fox and Ive considered parting ways and just cant do it.
Currently replacing my drivers side frame rail from the saddle at the A-pillar to the rad support. Theres tons of hidden spot welds that makes it a paint to change out.
This is incredible content. Gonna share with one friend, he got into a car thinking nice because exterior all together but in hiding was every area you pointed out. Literally at a point now of scrap car minus powertrain and interior. #southernontario
You forgot for hatches the hatch lower edges like to rust too. Its a shame my car is very clean and nice but its got rust in the lower towers, behind the gas tank and door a pillars :(. Might have to get a roller in the future but if i do im going back to a notch.
Ya I didn't bother talking about that area nor the area around wheel wells or rockers. Stuff that's visible. I wanted to talk about that "creeping death" shit
I see guys cutting up mint mustangs because of the towers. Makes me sick tbh but what can you do. I have fixed a few and there a bitch but if it's a otherwise clean car it's worth it. Rad supports are easy. I cut it out and weld in a piece of 2x2 so you have a easy assemble jack point.
I agree. My blk mustang had bad towers. I fixed it. And fkin run 9s. I won’t tell you how many I have seen cutting up fox bodys just cause. Couple of them are friends here local of mine. When I cut one. It’s gone in all these sections I just mentioned in this video.
I hear you man same here. Several friends that solely rely on Ebay and cut up near mint mustang's all the time. One of my buds just cut up a red 97 cobra a few weeks ago that was in good shape and even though I'm not a SN guy and surely not a mod guy I tried to buy it from him. He said he would make more cutting it up and parting it out. Theres a few t top cars on my home page that are being cut up but I just have to many project's.
I wish I would of saw this video before I bought my 1991 GT... the car only has a rust spot on passenger side A pillar Can that be fixed or do I move on?
Yes you would be fine. If its a small spot and area is repairable you can find cars that donor that. I try to sell all the good sheet metal if I part one outl
I'm a GM G-body guy, but I've been thinking about trying a Fox Body. I had an '06 Mustang before, loved it. But, every time I watch one of these videos I have second thoughts about buying a Fox. Very disconcerting and discouraging, but informative stuff here.
Just depends on where it’s from. Southern cars rarely ever look like this. However any cars from the rust belt at this age are typically going to be rough
Good video bud
Thx
This is why I don’t drive my in the snow or rain.
They will rot outside sitting still...
MY 87 COUPE LX WAS A CALI CAR , AND NOW IN AZ , NO RUST OR BODY D, PULLED TANK NO RUST , IM THINKING IT WAS IN A GARAGE MOST OF ITS LIFE, SO HAPPY !🤗
No snow= No Salt

Sad to see these cars rot away 😞🤷🏻♂️
I agree but they get bad and sometimes people never see it coming till someone gets hurt
It really is.
Another good spot they rust, if you have a hatchback, is the lower lip.
Yup,i have some rust there

Yes so many spots! lol.. I don't think body shops really know the struggle. SOme do, but man when you see how many there are you want to quit!

You did not mention below the cowl panel. Have never owned a fox body that wasn’t rusty there and I’ve had a dozen over the years
The floor pan when removed. The cross member for the transmission that frame rail are they repairanble
Right but then you have to make sure to check the other corners. Apillar door hanger area... under the gas tank.. etc.
Are you in the rust belt? .....I've never seen a rusty foxbody in sout carolina like that
Yes
Foxbodies are notorious for rust. You're lucky living where they dont.

Neo what would you recommend for my 89 got with and and 410 gears get 40 intake looking to get heads and cam what to get the most hp out of the car
Depends on what HP your trying to achieve and what money looks like?
@@Neomustangs as much as I can get and still be streetable I like to drive my car
BigBoy TV like alum heads or gt40?
Idc like the tf twisted wedge 170
Rust is like cancer and it is curable if you find it before it spreads and gets real bad.
