Yes, objects can be used to show the state of inputs directly, but you can not change their state. If your HMI can not read the inputs of your PLC directly or you have any problem with that, you can store the state of inputs on the PLC memory and then connect the memory addresses to your HMI.
The first way: You can create a blinking bit memory in your program (with the Clock memory option or timer instructions) and use that on your HMI screen. The second way: You can use the blinking option on the properties window of objects. Please search that on the internet or use the help window.
