It's so sad seeing these old beautiful buildings being destroyed by fire.
I worked around the corner from this building on S. Center St. for many years. This breaks my heart to see the building destroyed by fire.

Orange and help from East Orange doesn't have a large enough fire department to handle on their own? I see South Orange and Maplewood responding and maybe other towns are there. Is this standard practice in Essex County?
It's very sad they had to go defensive. You can't ever really get the seat of the fire with master streams.
Also note the position of the City of Orange Truck. They are too close to the building, in the potential collapse zone!
I wrote the comment about the Orange Truck mid video. Obviously somebody figured that out, so good on them! I've seen buildings collapse on trucks and injure FF. Not pretty!
One of the things I remember from a fire department class was a quote from some famous chief and author: "When ladders go up a building is coming down".

The building was originally the property of the Union Lodge which was one of the oldest Masonic Lodges in New Jersey (dedicated Nov 16, 1887). It was considered the most attractive Masonic Building within a hundred miles of New York City at the time.

It wasn’t active from what I’m hearing and everytime I’d walked past the shutters were over the single door , but it was full of Masonic memorabilia. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the jewelry store that started this for insurance
That tower is like an unrelenting furnace.What is fueling the flames to be so involved.Seems the interior must be packed with a lot fuel to keep rebounding so aggressively.Looks like this once historic building will be a total loss and have to be torn down.
Air is fuel. The tower is a chimney. They let the heat build there too long.
@@crforfreedom7407 air is oxygen, the fuel is all the wood etc inside the building, combine oxygen, fuel with a heat source and you have the three things needed for fire, be it fire in your grill or unplanned like this building fire.

I doubt it mattered as to the outcome however I wonder why they moved the ladder truck - collapse zone maybe?
I was thinking the fire in the top towards the back of the building was why they moved but then they stopped so collapse zone it is.
This is so sad to lose a historical building and it’s sad for people that remember it being used as a business or a church or other things too I’m sorry that this happened in New Jersey
My family owned Milt Kaplan Men's Wear, which occupied the center store of the 3 stores on the ground floor between 1971 and 1978. We sold our fixtures to Nagy Men's Store, which occupied the space for a number of years after that. The store next to us, further from Center St., was occupied by Embassy Dress Shop, which was owned by Harry Sossin, and then by my uncle, Jack Bloomfield. I'm sad to see the building destroyed.
Looks like a classic, old building. What a shame. Abandoned, not in use? Arson, perhaps???
My guess is arson. I Googled this for more information, and stumbled upon a forum post which listed news articles of *more than 70 masonic temples which have been burned to the ground within the past 10 years.* Spooky to say the least!
4 towers all concentrating on the front of the building while the fire rages uncontrolled on the Charlie side. Does anyone in this department have a drone or do a 360? Horrible management strategy.
You can clearly see the fire in the rear from all around the building; was there no access from the side or back? I think you might have answered your own question.

If you notice there's 2 ladder trucks on the rear of the building one shooting water from the other side too so.
Check out the other vids on this channel taken at the fire, they were fighting the fire from the back of the bld.
Also, is this in the "good" Orange or the rotten one?

lucky the fire wasnt in California, by half way through they would have had to stop due to lack of water. so for those of you in faith please pray for us that we get rain, not flooding just rain.

There's only so much they can do when it's a defensive fire in a type 3 building until collapses occur creating large openings for more effective attack
They know nothing about that building other than it's on fire. What's in that building is it all wood interior. they could be fighting that fire for 15 hours wearing all that gear and feeling that heat. You bet your ass 50 men are there. bet you never thought of why there are 50 men there huh???
