Always love the shutter speed effect on helicopter blades. Makes them look like toys from an old Godzilla movie.

I think their process works like this....occupants are safe....the insurance company will pay for the damage...no sense of urgencey!

I seem to see a lot of fires with the larger apt buildings in your area. Is there a reason for this? Are your building considerably older or not maintained?

@@JeffStangFire That's why you get tank water on the Visible Burning Material as fast and safe as possible. That means, from the outside where you can see it.

@@jz1340 They have hose lines and fire crews inside of the building. You cannot use the big guns while people are inside. It is dark, wet and slippery, there may be holes to fall into. Those towers put out over 500 gallons per minute, that is enough to wash the inside crews away. This is the standard procedure. If the fire becomes untenable for interior crews they are called back out and once everyone is present and accounted for, then and only then will the towers be turned on.

From the Outside, you have a lot of access to the burning material. From Inside, which takes a Massive amount of time, you have to pernitrate the ceiling, (plaster and lathe?), to get an Angle of Attack on it. The longer you LET the fire burn, the weaker the ceiling joists become and you invite a roof and ceiling collapse on victims and firefighters. You also LET the fire spread deeper into the cockloft because the area is fully vented. Get Tank water on Visible Burning Material as fast and safe as you can to Stop The Threat! Then you shut off the water so you don't destroy the rest of the building. Water has to be Surgically applied but that takes the ability to Think.

I understand not putting a pump on a ladder truck, particularly in bigger cities where there are engines available to supply the ladder pipe. What I don't understand is why the don't equip the ladder trucks with a pre-piped ladder pipe so they don't have to waste time setting up a hose to feed the pipe. Looks like that took a lot more time than simply running a supply line to a pre-piped inlet. Not necessarily criticizing; there may be a perfectly good reason for the omission of pre-piping that I am not aware of. If so, would someone please educate me.

doesn't get used all that often. by the time you're running out a ladder pipe, the building is usually gone anyhow.
