"Elections are supposed to be political occasions. In fact the opposite is true. The last thing politicians want to talk about at election-time is politics. What they want to talk about is votes. And the less you talk about politics, the more votes you're likely to win - otherwise you might offend someone." - Alex Callinicos

We didn't win independence from the UK in the 1920's, the Irish Free State, as it was called then, had dominion status within the UK, an oath of allegiance to the British crown had to be taken by members of hhe Free State Parliament and we had a Governor General appointed by the Crown, had to pay war reparations to the British for their losses during our failed War of Independence and the British maintained control of our ports. The Free state government facilitated the partition of Ireland and abandoned our people in the North to a brutal sectarian regime.
It wasn't until 1937 when the Fianna Fáil government held a referendum to introduce the Constitution of Ireland that we got back the ports, got rid of the British Governor General and elected Douglas Hyde as the States first president, that we achieved any semblance of independence
The free state government executed 77 republican prisoners during the civil war (1921 - 23), 56 more than the British executed during the Tan War (1919 - 1921): the Free State Army was dressed and armed by the British, so stop pretending that Fine Gael are in any way patriotic, you were traitors then and you're traitors now. Your partners in Fianna Fàil are just as bad. Take tye flag from the mast.

The treachery runs deep through Fine Gael veins. Harris and Varadkar were "prolife" when they first entered the Dáil. A few years later and they are the architects of one of the most extreme baby killing laws. They may get a slap on the back by the corrupt media and other anti-life politicians but God will judge them.
