Hard to move when you are catching fish. But perch usually school in size classes. If your catching small ones time to move. Great video. Keep them coming.
Hey Ivo, I bought all of the StingNose jigs after watching your videos. Took them to my local lake for my first ever ice fishing trip this morning. I used the 3/16 silver to put 6 nice perch and 2 chain pickerels in my bucket. If you ever want to do some fishing in the Finger Lakes or Central NY, let me know!
Man, that's such a tough question to answer. Otisco gave up a world record tiger musky recently and has great perch. Skaneateles has awesome rainbows and LandLocked Atlantic Salmon. Owasco has some huge brown trout and lakers. Cayuga is great for Lakers, Salmon, rainbows, browns and has lake sturgeon, although it's illegal to target them or take them out of the water, they're a great fight if you do accidentally hook one. Seneca is known for it's abundant lakers. If I had to choose one to fish at the expense of the others, it would be Cayuga.
I want to share the trick for your small eyes on your rod freezing up. Yes, big eyes help too but if you take and spray them with a cooking spray or my favorite WD-40 the ice wont stick. also if you have line that holds ice, you can reel it up pinching the line between some candles. I use my braided line done this way and it does not freeze up. hope you all the best.

An honest video. You focused on techniques to catch fish rather than hard selling the lure as the reason you were catching fish. I purchased some sting nose spoons as a result evev though I have an arsenal of ice fishing lures. Thank you! PS: use other Thindermist lures too.
Great video.. and perch are so delicious, what would be the minimum size of a keeper Ivo. Also I caught some nice beautiful Jumbo's and they had lots of roe. Since its getting so difficult to get good size perch at simcoe, should females be returned? There are so many little ones that I wish they could be a way to cook them so big ones could be returned. Big or small we had a lot of fun with my six year old and the Action was nonstop. so he was entertained the whole time
+canatek Sounds like you had a great time ice fishing and there is no rule as to how big the perch has to be to keep them, but you should be able to easily fillet an 8" perch and if you wanted, you do not even have to fillet them - just remove the scales and gut them, remove the head and you can pan fry them whole and then just pick out the bones :) The perch population on Lake Simcoe is fantastic and returning females with eggs is never a bad decision to make, as it helps the future :)
I used a manual one for most of my life with no problems - they are just more work and the blades seem to get dull rather quickly and once they do, it's tough to drill a hole...I now have a gas powered one and must admit, it is heavier and bulkier, but sure is much easier :)

I have some of your other Stingnose that I have gotten from you that I am using during the spring and summer time fishing but there the bigger ones I use for Bass fishing, by the way they work great.. I see your using pieces of minnows for bait, Have you or Antonio had the chance to use maggots or grubs?,I know most guys out here where I am on Lake Champlain here in Northeastern New York use them and have great luck using them..We have not had a great year for ice fishing,the weather has been to mild and then on top of that the wind has not been helping with ice making,

Thanks for writing in Caden and without sonar, it is always best to fish the bottom area as there are typically always fish on the bottom - otherwise, try fishing in 5 or 10-foot increments - meaning, fish on the bottom then try reeling up 5 - 10 feet and fish that area. If you don;t get any bites, try reeling up another 5 - 10 feet and so on - you would have to keep trying different depths, until you are able to figure out what depth they are holding at :) Good luck out there

I have a canoe about 4 feet wide and I live near a lake filled with carp and the carp average between 8-35 pounds do you recommend fishing in a canoe? If I do hook a 20 pounder would it be unsafe?
rules vary from province to province and state to state, depending on where you live - so it's always best to check your local regulations - thanks for writing and all the best to you in 2017 PS> if you are not sure, you can always tip with a small minnow head only, which would give you 2 eyes :) If you do that, be sure to also use the rest of the minnow in small pieces as well for tipping

I use spoons with crappie minnow heads. Pinch the head toss the rest. Great combo.

Sorry I didn’t catch that you using life minnow or artificial one?
I was using the Stingnsoe Jigging spoon which looks like a realistic minnow, but it is not :)

the 1/4 oz size is ideal and you can also go a bit bigger to the 3/8 oz as well as smaller to the 3/16 oz....all will do great for you :)
