What an amazing video! this is incredibly helpful, can you make a video of wood materials being used on tailpieces and how it sounds and recommendations about it?
Impressed with your trick of fixing sound post inside the violin and moreover your explanation and illustration of the same are really excellent !! Thank you so much , dear Sir 👌👌😊💐💐
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I'm really glad you enjoyed the trick and the explanation. It's always great to know that the videos are helpful! 🎻👌
That's fantastic to hear! I'm glad it worked out for you and helped you out of a tough spot. DIY solutions can be so rewarding! If you have any other tips or tricks, feel free to share!
I like the hammering of iron coat hanger idea. Wish i had known about this back in 1970. I set my soundpost with yarn or dental floss like the gypsys and it works out fine. I dont like to scar up my f holes. Could you discuss the grain of the soundpost and how to keep it 90 degees from top plate grain? Thanks!
Finalmente! Grazie mille!
Thank so much for this Edgar! This was great! Hopefully I'll never find myself in a situation that would require this, but this is so very helpful just in case!!
Great information! Thank you! We have an old violin that belonged to a family member that has a second, larger sound post. It is more on the bass side, down in the lower belly of the violin. Do you happen to know why it might have two sound posts? My suspicion is that it might have a poorly carved integral bass bar, but I'm not certain without opening it up.
@@johnalexander4946 Just put a hand towel or a cut out from a corrugated carton box about 20cm x 20cm under the hammer that is sitting on the table. Alternatively, do the hammering in the porch or concrete pavement outside. Or if you have lots of friends with sound posts falling off regularly, then buy the kit from Edgar and share the costs.
This is actually very useful video to educate the amateurs about fixing the fallen soundpost. I would suggest that you may use a cheap violin being cut into half and so that people can see what is actually happening inside whilst you are using the tool to position the soundpost.
I HAVE A GREAT IDEA FOR YOU TO MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT I hope you would share the art of tuning the Violin Bridge while it is still on the Violin. The technique I am talking is filing slightly in the heart and different places on the bridge to instantly change the sound. If by some chance you are unaware of this, you are in for a treat. I have used it for instant and positive effect in my Violins. This example is a fact and instant to be done while the bridge is still on the Violin and tuned up. This gives you instant feed back when you play after each filing. 1. If the power of the "A" string is weak simply with a small round file, file under the "D" string in the heart just a few strokes and the "A" string instantly jumps up in power. 2.If the "D" string is weak then file in the heart under the "A" String and it instantly becomes more powerful. The reason I am asking is I would like to know more about this technique from a master Violin maker such as yourself. I have learned a lot from your Videos, thanks for your efforts.
Personally I rather lift the treble side with an L shaped hook through the upper eye of the f hole while binging outwards the post still on the setting point.Rather than trying to tap the post around. I like the inclusive and trusting outlook of this video .I fear though that many people should never be encouraged to try.
Yeah, that really LOOKS like something that would allow me to "quickly fix a fallen soundpost." More like something that would put an eye out or stab my hand.

This is exactly the video I need right now. Thank you so much Master Edgar!!!
love it Edgar! your videos keep getting better👍🏻👍🏻

😮
Perfect ! Could you make a video about reducing wolftones or unwanted vibrations and all the ways you can do it ?
I think there were past videos addressed the wolfnotes. Try searching the channel you may find it
That hammering still damaged the table. Mom would not be happy 😮

I especially like the rare footage of the sound post in the wild walking through the forest.
This frightened me to the point I purchased a sound post setter just in case.
i have no sound post setter with me but i did bring two hammers along....
I always carry two hammers.
Your comment made me laugh... Concrete and a rock would work. 😂

I think Olaf the violin maker did that, it might be on TH-cam.
Cool!
Is that an octobass in the background?

Wow, another reason we have to fight climate change: It moves soundposts!
(Any chance Greata plays the violin?)
We don't go to the same hotels apparently, I never had a hammer provided 😅

Is there something wrong with the audio in edgars videos or am i the only crazy one? His voice sounds robotic
You said climate change, and it triggered about 50 viewers.
No kidding, like going from sunny in the morning to a cool afternoon shower isn’t climate change.
@@joeyoungs8426it is if it used to happen every day and now doesn’t. We’re lucky to get rain once a week now.
