In early 1990, I was in Berlin as a tourist. The Wall had already been opened, but at the time, most of it was still there. Some enterprising guys were renting out hammers for 5 Deutschmarks, and I was able to chip out a couple of pieces of the Wall. I had a 3/4" piece of the grayish concrete mounted to a wooden plaque with a little brass plate engraved "Chipped from the Berlin Wall, January 1990." As a child in Tennessee in the summer of 1961, I watched on TV as the East Germans began building the Berlin Wall, at first just concrete blocks and barbed wire, but later, reinforced with more and more barriers. Even though one chip of concrete looks like any other, this little chip is very special to me.

Thanks for showing the hard work behind the making of the Hollywood Stars Walk of Fame. I personally knew the person who originally started the Walk of Fame Masonry. His name is Bill Paternostro. LA Times interviewed him on November 25, 1992 entitled “Star Maker: Bill Paternostro Has Corner on Hollywood Walk of Fame”. During that time he had just finish doing Stephanie Powers’ star. ⭐️He has passed away a few years ago but his masonry work lives on thru his son David and many others as we just saw. Never lose that wonderful enthusiasm you show in your videos. ❤️🙏🏻🌴⭐️
Outstanding! One of your absolute BEST vids EVER. Thank you for helping preserve and honor the history of California. Wish more folks were JUST like YOU!
SO MUCH WORK to tell this whole story! Thanks for not missing days. That's not a fun drive for sure. For years you have been documenting history that would otherwise disappear - another great job. You're the best!
This is so interesting and amazing how u showed how they weld the names into the stars and all the hard work! Thank u for taking the time to record for us! ⭐⭐⭐🎬🎬🎬
Only GIV would stick around day after day after day waiting for the guys to show up to work so he can bring us this awesome content!😎 The masonry crew are artists for sure. Really enjoyed this one thank you for sharing the process with us 👍
You’re right about “values”. So many people would be interested in having a chunk of the Walk of Fame in their garden! The workers are doing an outstanding job, very efficient.
Thank you for bringing this video to everyone. It was heartbreaking to see Oliver Hardy's star being shattered. If you get the chance you should visit the music box stairs in LA. Lots of landmarks still there for comparison. You have captured the passion and care that everyone had in making it a better place for generations to come. My jaw was on the floor at the start but you made a great hollywood ending. All your hard work and time is very appreciated! Also shame they could not just sell pieces of red rock to cover the taxpayer costs for the upkeep. I’d pay $100 for certed piece of Hardy’s star. I would bury it with my father.
Oliver Hardy lived in my hometown of Madison, Georgia for a while. His father was the manager of a hotel here. After the death of his father, his mother opened a boarding house here called The Hardy House.
What an incredibly rare thing to witness (and get to participate in). You’re so lucky to watch the process from start to finish. Thanks for taking us with you, German 🎬⭐️ Glad you were able to grab a few discarded pieces of the originals - nice that they were rescued by someone who really appreciates the history behind them.
This is my neighborhood. I grew up here and walked that street every day to get to Hollywood High. This is a bitter sweet video. Thank you for documenting.
Very interesting video, Mike. It's nice of you to focus on the guys who work so hard to upkeep the Walk of Fame. They deserve to be recognized for their hard work, and thanks to GIV, they go it.
Wow, Mike, born and raised in Hollywood, never knew how the stars' stars were made. Fascinating! Thank you for making this video. These construction guys are like artists
I was smiling the whole time, watching the entire video. That hardly ever happens to me. Thanks for sharing! It was absolutely awesome to see how this works. Really nice of Vince and Jerry to welcome you with so much kindness during their arduous work hours. Not a lot of people who work in these types of jobs like to be disturbed, but they embraced you wholeheartedly. That just shows how likeable you are, Mike. Happy to see you enjoyed the process of star replacement and that you got to take home some historic souvenirs!🥳
I'm glad you took the time to catch and record this. I guess it is considered one of the small bits compared to all of history but it is still a big deal in its own way and really interesting to learn about the process. Thank you for sharing this. ❤
I'm quite impressed that the workers there were super chill about you participating and interacting with them, even more impressed that you had the patience to document it all for that long.
Congratulations on the successful video, Mike! I know you worked really hard on this. I enjoyed meeting the craftsmen who worked on renewing the walkway and stars. ❤
Well done *Vince, Gerry, and the team* Fantastic work you all should be proud of. Hard work in hot weather, but it will bring joy to the millions of visitors to Hollywood
Thanks GIV! It was nice to meet the men behind the Star. That is a lot of work and amazing to watch. So happy Vence let you have the " M" I would have got goosebumps too! Michael Landon was a great man.
I appreciate that you care about this! I'd buy a piece from you!!! You got a letter too! When the wall came down in Germany, my grandmother was there and brought me back a piece. I now show it to high school students. History IS important. Thank you for showing us ❤
You put so much time into this, Mike. Excellent. I know some of your videos get lots of attention fast and then level off, but I think this will be the kind that will draw viewers for a very very long time. It's the most in depth I've seen on this topic. Edit: WOW @ the star you made! Well done, that is awesome! You did an incredible job.
Mike, Danke !! You are so wonderful. Loved your documentary about the Stars. You shall have one, someday. Such big hugs. Look forward to more of your videos. All the best, S, S. (was once a Schreiner 😄)
Hello Michael! Thank you to Alex for telling you about this so you could share this video! And to Vince & the rest of the workmen who were so genial about being filmed, and spoken to for the camera. I loved that, remember those who do these jobs that keep things continuing & running smoothly. They looked pretty pleased to see you take such interest in their hard work. As a craftsman & artist, l found the entire process very interesting. Imagine the fun you could have designing your very own mini walk of fame on your patio. Wouldn't the grandkids just freak out to see their name in a little star in the corner of Gramma or Grampa's garden?!! I am *thrilled for you* to have the little golden M. I too have a tiny piece of a now-closed building here where many hours were happily danced away! I love your collection of tidbits, you can make alot out of bits found that others have tossed. I don't think you are crazy at all for collecting them! If you are crazy, l must be nutts then because when I have visited other locales l usually find a really pretty or interesting rock to bring home. I love nature, rocks too, and at least they aren't tatty plastic cheap souvenirs that will break! A fun, interesting peek into how the stars are crafted. Well done gentlemen all round!🤝🏻🍻👍🏻😄🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦✌🏻
Good on you, Mike. You know I had a feeling when you got that piece of the red carpet the first time. I felt that things like this would happen to you as the time went on. It's so exciting for you and we all can hear the pure joy and happiness in your voice. Well deserved. Wow.
Amazing!!! Thanks for taking all that time to document history in the making, AND document all the hard work and artistry that goes into that! I learned so much watching this, thank you!
It's like a mini version of the mega boring machines (Grinder) they use to drill out the huge tunnels for our London UK underground/subway as they did with the channel tunnel when UK one end French engineers on the other until they met in the middle. Love this kind of programme glad GiV you were there to film this and meet the guy's.
That was a TOTALLY AWESOME video. I mean, I don't have a great interest as you do in hollywood/film, I know many of the people on that walk of fame though, but your passion is transferred to others. I really enjoyed watching that, so lovely to see the workers responsible for this on the video too, that's something we often don't get to see... the people behind this creating it are as important as the stars themselves, in my opinion, and that is why i LOVED this video. 🤩💝
I want to express my genuine appreciation for the incredible words you shared during the Walk of Fame star renewal. Man, did it strike a chord with me! The notion of creating your own star? It's like a lightning bolt of inspiration, urging us to take control of our destinies and fully embrace our unique talents and passions. It's pure brilliance.
Very cool process on how they make the stars. Truly an art for sure. The final result turned out great; their craftmanship really shows. Nice job on heading back over and over to document the whole process.
Great job brother, you have a heart of Gold for all the documentation throughout the Hollywood walk of fame “Stars” relocation/ restoration. The best of success to all you involved for this great task. I think it’s so Cool that you saved some pieces to “make” your own design later on at your home. God bless you G.I.V. 👍😎💚👏🏼❤️✌️🌎🤗
Man I could not agree with you more G.i.V. It's ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING that people actually are just walking by it thinking it's all garbage not realizing that absolute importance and significance to history that the walkout fame is...SMH. That's really awesome that you flew back and got a piece to the Berlin wall. It's so great to know that there is still people that recognize the importance, cuz once its gone- its gome for ever. This so very important history needs to stay persevering. Thank you so much for showing this video. Love your channel man.
this guy has more respect and understanding for our own history and culture than probably 90% of gen z. this does not bode well for the future of american society.
Another GiV amazing adventure down memory lane . . .. Where else does one get a chance to see history in the making on the Hollywood Walk of Fame like this? You covered the whole process from start to finish. Wow!!!
Every star that was there in 1965, I read and walked by. Couldn't bring myself to walk ON them. I moved from the east coast, and was living in Burbank at the time with my aunt and uncle while going to college after just getting out of the Navy. Great video yet again, Mike! Cheers! :)
You were right to snag some piece of the W.O.F., these are literally pieces of modern culture history! It's sad to see that not that many people seemed to be actually visiting those stars during their removal, millions walked on it while they were here and merely paid them tribute by visiting them one last time before their reconstruction. I wish I was closer to Hollywood so I could have also visited em, sadly I'm pretty far (but close to your motherland actually) since I'm in France. So I'm very glad that you share those images with the world!
Oh and I didn't know that they were polishing down concrete, I always thought that they just poured concrete in its outline, not covering the whole star and then removing the top layer
GIV the respect you give to those in their trade shows me how much i respect you for covering it, do you realize not 1 other person had the drive to cover this history with such respectfully ty sir.

Thank you Vince for being such a sociable, kind person, showing us how it's done!
@tattooed_countryboy3657 Yeah, no kidding, the author of the video yes, you are correct. I'm talking about Vince. Watch the video.
Vince Venice would be better. Sound like an actor
@@ralphwiggum250N Love the sound of that! kinda catchy ;-)
@Tattooed_countryboy aka Mike the Pike
You have to know why they're doing this ?🤔
These people are all evil pedophiles and rape children and more ...
Don't kid yourself they will not be put back ! If it is there will be people protesting forsure!!
German in Venice wow !!! You just witnessed history thank you for sharing ❤🎉😢😢😢
I’m disappointed to learn they do this, but very much appreciated this video and learning this !
That's a fantastic sight. The GIV has outdone himself. This is something I will never forget. Thank you.
Thank you, Vince! You made thousands of people happy! Especially GIV... Hugs from the Great Lakes.
Mike, as long as it makes you happy. 😊 great 🎯 videos
You are so very enjoyable to watch. You are a bright star. We need more positivity like you hanging around.
At least Oliver is getting a brand new star. The Music Box stairs are awesome and a must see for and L&H fan.
Oliver Hardy lived in my hometown of Madison, Georgia for a while. His father was the manager of a hotel here. After the death of his father, his mother opened a boarding house here called The Hardy House.
Don't be sad for the stars to be removed a lot of them were not good, they did a lot of very bad things.
@@nirmalad4175 no piece of history- like a statue (good or bad)- should be removed. It’s a socialist/ communist move.
You did click baited me today Joyman! Lot of love!
Thank you as usual for reinforcing that anything is possible. This is why I always enjoy watching your channel. Danke Sehr Michael
AMAZING! Thank you for sharing this. ❤️
Very interesting video, Mike. It's nice of you to focus on the guys who work so hard to upkeep the Walk of Fame. They deserve to be recognized for their hard work, and thanks to GIV, they go it.
Nah they're criminals. Destroying the names of people who were better than today's people
Great coverage on how they replaced the stars and the concrete, did that type of work for many years, Thank you!
Thank you for continuing to go back and get the entire process. This was one of my favorite videos you’ve done. Great work GIV!💛
That was very cool watching the process GIV. Thanks for taking us along with you.💯💜🙋🏽♀️✝️🙏🏾🇺🇸
I'm quite impressed that the workers there were super chill about you participating and interacting with them, even more impressed that you had the patience to document it all for that long.
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing.
This was so incredible! And you were able to see and take a few pieces of Hollywood history! So amazing! Thank you for sharing your experience!💕
Love seeing the everyday laborer have their SKILLSET shine worldwide via GIV videos ‼️
Always a great mixture of history with the present 🤩 💫
Hey GiV loved this video thanks! Have you ever heard Celluloid Heroes by The Kinks?
Congratulations on the successful video, Mike! I know you worked really hard on this. I enjoyed meeting the craftsmen who worked on renewing the walkway and stars. ❤
I LOVED THIS
Some of his best work in this video
Loved the guys who created this art, thank you guys!
Well done *Vince, Gerry, and the team* Fantastic work you all should be proud of. Hard work in hot weather, but it will bring joy to the millions of visitors to Hollywood
Awesome video 😎 Thanks Mike!!🙏
Thanks Mike, this was a great video. I didn't realize how much work went into putting a star in. 👍
Thanks GIV! It was nice to meet the men behind the Star. That is a lot of work and amazing to watch. So happy Vence let you have the " M" I would have got goosebumps too! Michael Landon was a great man.
Wow thank you for documenting this its incredible.
Love your passion for Hollywood GIV. Enjoyed every minute.
I appreciate that you care about this! I'd buy a piece from you!!! You got a letter too! When the wall came down in Germany, my grandmother was there and brought me back a piece. I now show it to high school students. History IS important. Thank you for showing us ❤
This is soooo interesting!!!
Thank you GiV!!
This is awesome GIV, you're part of history now. Props to Vince for letting you be part of the process to, he's a cool guy. 😎
You do the best videos!! WoW!! That's Hollywood history & being able to see how it's done is the best thing ever! Thank you for all your hard work ☺️
This was fabulous! Thanks so much for all your effort.
GIV, these videos showing a background on the Hollywood walk of fame process were great! Thank you for doing something I'd never known about!
Mike, Danke !! You are so wonderful. Loved your documentary about the Stars. You shall have one, someday. Such big hugs. Look forward to more of your videos. All the best, S, S. (was once a Schreiner 😄)
This whole video has given me goosebumps. Thank you very, very much!
Man, is so cool of you to film this all and show it here for all of us to see! You don't see this every day. Much appreciated, thanks man!
Thanks for documenting this! If you see these guys again, thank them for their skill. care and professionalism in restoring the stars.
Thanks for all your hard work GIV. Appreciate you for showing all of us this part of History..👍
Didn't realize the stars were made onsite and like that. Pretty amazing actually.
Mike, you just earned your own star by making this historic video.⭐
You're such a good storyteller, Mike. I really enjoyed this video! Always trust a man that loves The Misfits. I think your collection is pretty cool.
It was really awesome that you were able to participate in the making of Michael Landon's star on the Walk Of Fame.👍
Have been there many times. Cool to see how they are made. Thanks! It was really interesting. Those guys are true artists !
Wow MIKE this is been my favorite video that you’ve done to see how the stars are made. Just a phenomenal video. Absolutely fantastic.❤
❤wow thanks for taking the time to film this, it turned out so beautiful ❤️
I want to express my genuine appreciation for the incredible words you shared during the Walk of Fame star renewal. Man, did it strike a chord with me! The notion of creating your own star? It's like a lightning bolt of inspiration, urging us to take control of our destinies and fully embrace our unique talents and passions. It's pure brilliance.
Great video Mike!! It was really nice of those guys to let you film what they’re doing 👍
Thank you GIV for taking us on your journeys!
Very interesting! Thanks for spending so much time on making this one. Was wondering why you hadn’t posted but now I know 😊
Very cool process on how they make the stars. Truly an art for sure. The final result turned out great; their craftmanship really shows. Nice job on heading back over and over to document the whole process.
Incredibly amazing!!!!!!!🎉
Love your channel man.
this guy has more respect and understanding for our own history and culture than probably 90% of gen z. this does not bode well for the future of american society.
there is no importance or significance to hollywood. the golden calf of self worship and greed.
Same people who tear down statues.
its less than garbage. stop worshipping the cult. these "stars" sold their souls and need to be erased from history one way or another.
It's all garbage
FINALLY SEEN HOW THE STARS 🌟 ARE DONE BRILLIANT VIDEO ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ IT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK BUDDY👍👍👍👍.me from 🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧ENGLAND ❤❤ YOUR VIDEOS
Another GiV amazing adventure down memory lane . . ..
Where else does one get a chance to see history in the making on the Hollywood Walk of Fame like this?
You covered the whole process from start to finish. Wow!!!
Mike, you create such amazing and professional videos! Your work will be appreciated by fans of Hollywood history forever! YOU are a star, too! ⭐
You made a very interesting program. I`m impressed.
Glad you posted this video GiV. Otherwise, I would have never known this was being done.
GIV the respect you give to those in their trade shows me how much i respect you for covering it, do you realize not 1 other person had the drive to cover this history with such respectfully ty sir.
This is a very interesting video, i absolutely love it! Thank you Vince and your crew for showing us how these are made. First time ever seeing something like this. Tons of respect for these guys, this is some hard work but incredible work!
This video was very interesting, great to see how the stars are actually made. ❤❤❤❤❤
00:28:00 He yGIV...the reason why you feel happiness...is because...you actually care and you feel a connection to what is being protected and cared for...
THANKS TO YOU, we can share in that feeling...what you are doing is VERY important...THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
GIV this was so awesome to be able to watch how they redo the Stars I've always wondered how they did it I can't imagine the feeling you had being there I would have been speechless 🙃thank you so much for taking us along with you can't wait till your next video 😊 be safe lots of love❤
This was such a pure and charming video, thank you! Loved seeing the guys create magic right before our eyes and you enjoying every minute. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
