- Help Wendell get an RV to go back home gofund.me/e55367c9
Wendell is an 80-year-old retired veteran who finds himself facing the harsh realities of homelessness in Los Angeles. After a life marked by service and sacrifice, including the heartbreaking loss of one son in the Afghanistan war and another in a tragic car accident, Wendell's challenges escalated when his beloved wife was diagnosed with cancer. Despite spending every penny on her treatment, she passed away, leaving Wendell without his life partner and financially devastated. Today, Wendell lives in a broken-down RV, a stark reminder of the cascading tragedies that led him to this point.
The crisis of elderly homelessness is escalating, with countless older adults like Wendell finding themselves without a safe place to call home. The vulnerability of this population is profound, as they face unique health and mobility challenges, exacerbated by the lack of stable housing. In urban areas like Los Angeles, where the cost of living is high and social services are stretched thin, the plight of elderly homeless individuals is particularly acute.
A dedicated street medicine team brought Wendell's situation to our attention, emphasizing his reluctance to ask for financial help. Wendell's humble wish is for a functioning RV, allowing him the dignity of mobility and the ability to relocate to a place he can once again call home. Understanding the improbability of such a donation, we convinced Wendell to agree to a GoFundMe campaign. Rest assured, this campaign is transparent-every cent raised goes directly to Wendell’s bank account to fund his new RV.
We have made sure that there are people involved to help Wendell drive to the location that he wants to go and that he will be taken care of.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

Any way I could send a small check to you for Wendell? I won't support GoFundMe me because of what they did to the Canadian Truckers Freedom Rally a couple years ago. I will use GiveSendGo. Thank you! ❤🙏 Love your channel!
Hope it helps you Wendel ❤ Get home soon.

This is disgraceful having to live on the street at 80 years old. I will be donating to gofundme. Hope it helps.
No 80 year old should be homeless!
Nobody should be homeless
@@nate6045I stand corrected. My apologies. I guess this gentleman just spoke to my heart.
Especially a veteran
Nobody PERIOD should be homeless. This is ridiculous. Sad to see because I am homeless too. He’s right about how people are out here. Sketchy, and if you’re not about drinking or drugs, you better be able to sustain around chaos. Most people don’t make it that long or they go completely numb and lose sight of any hope or help. Especially if you’re a man because men are looked down on as being lazy or a punk or this or that if we don’t have skills great enough to pay us enough to sustain life on our own. That’s the real reason many are homeless. Inflation, and skills we do have used to be able to pay for our own place, but not anymore.
The USA doesn't care.

@@sabrinaoliver7727 Heartbreaking 💔

Well, what do you want the country to do? He made his choices. I live on 1200 per month and am enjoying it. Why doesn't he find a flat bed hauler and tow the rv he has to where he wants to be? Or go to the library and internet search for new digs...If one is in a high rent area, find another city/area. I am a senior, got rid of my car, (no more of that expense) use public transportation (free)and have ebt. also. If he is allowed to be where he wants to go. Uhaul a truck and put the rv's front end on a tow apparatus, and drive up to where he wants to go. Enterprise has pickups for $100 per day (all insurance electives added) Go to uhaul and get a car hauler. He can also buy an CO2 pistol and load it with pepper balls....I don't think the crazies will come around. Well got to write out a check for gas....

Family can be the worst people in your life.
The way America is right now, if I meet a comfortable, gainfully employed person, there's a good chance they're standing on a mountain of destroyed lives they've used, abused, and thrown away to get where they are. Especially true now, since they're getting more brazenly militaristic and opinionated about how the poor should be condemned, quarantined, jailed, or medically "dealt with" by cop or ER. It's guilt for pulling the ladder up behind them, and fear of dwindling resources ever being restoratively distributed.

Please go to the ER at the VA and tell them that you are homeless and ask for HUD Vash and a social worker to help you. You don't have to live in a RV or on the street. The VA will help. You just have to let them know that you need help.
Absolutely, thank you. Jumped on here just for this. They can get him someplace safe and ADA accessible as his needs change.

That’s pitiful. Your low income is not enough to qualify for low income housing! 🙄

I feel the pain for that man, I am going to be 80 this year and my son is almost 60 and we are facing homelessness within 90 days. It isn't because I do not have an income, it's because renters have raised the rent so unbelievably high you cannot afford to live. Because health issues add to the expenses that younger people do not always have. And so here we are facing this terrible dilemma which I have no clue what it's going to be like. I've never been homeless so I've never not paid my bills and I've never gone hungry. All my people have died off, and any of the younger ones still around don't want to hear what you have to say because they're afraid that you may be a burden to them. So at this point I put my trust in God 100%.

Yes no veteran should be living on the streets or in broken down vehicles. God Bless our men and women who served & are serving to protect our freedom!
I've been on the streets and understand that not everyone is on drugs. Some just fell into financial hardships or domino effects of life, leading to the loss of home or possessions. When your homeless people can be cruel more often than not, and it's when some actually treat you like a human being, it's a nice feeling even for a moment.
yes true, and there are many who have physical illness or mental illness such as elderly with dementia, people with anxiety & PTSD or other phobias, delusions or autism spectrum that put them in a place where they can't function properly in society or hold gainful employment. Like myself solace in peace and quiet is medicinal. Sending a big hug! It must have been hard..🤗💛
you deserve to be safe and happy.
My uncle was homeless with his partner and he just never wanted to be told what to do. He stayed with my parents in the backyard but became violent. Wish this Veteran the best.
God bless Wendell, and thank you, sir, for your service. Prayers you make it back to the country and can enjoy life again. You look amazing for 80 years-old. Wishing you many years to enjoy farm life and farm people again. God is watching over you and sending his earth angels to help.

Dear GOD Lord Almighty Most High can U Please make a Way for This Brother to Get Across the Grapevine an go Home to the Country where He can Find Peace an Rest an Transition Himself to U in HEAVEN
Thank U Father Thank U Jesus
AMEN!!! 🙌🙌🙌
I'm 70 and a Hospice home patient. My nurse while we were just talking one day told me of a Hospice home patient who has no food. I had the wife go to the grocery store and we bought $183.00 in groceries for her. Ridiculously the nurse had to come get it and deliver. Because of hippa rules I don't even know the womans name. It happened a again to another patient a few weeks ago. Another trip to walmart. I'm NOT well off however, if your a hospice patient the last thing you need to worry about is food !
There is no answer to this quaqmire people. SS is NOT sufficient for people to live. However, the country is already broke. An economic collapse is inevitable. As for now know that the fastest growing population of homeless is retired people! You always have a plan till you get punched in the face!!
You're in hospice yourself? How do you find the strength to surf the web?
@lisabrightly I have stage 4 COPD. I sit in an electric recliner and all it takes to surf the web is moving a finger. Even though my energy level is close to zero and I'm 70, I still have 100% of my cognitive abilities. I'm very technology savy as well. The last time I left my house was 8 months ago and that was just to go and get a haircut. It genuinely feels like being a prisoner in your own home.
@@oldgeezer8038 that's terrible. I'm sorry.
I hope this man gets the help he needs. I sent a little money his way. Times are tough!
I've been where you are brother....leave no man behind...donated
The RV could be towed to his new location, perhaps?
Yes, why would you get an RV that ran just to go and park the thing in the country?
@@Brett.1984 Because in the country you need a vehicle to get around.
Do you have any idea what it would cost to "tow" a non-running motorhome from L.A. to central CA/the area he wants to return to? And even if he had a couple of thousand for that to happen, he's gonna be stuck in the country with no way to get around or get groceries or get to medical care? Clearly you're not thinking this through, the realities and logistics
@@moondancer334 but U Not hearing Mr. Wendell , He doesnt care about medical food or anything else just to be at Peace an Die .
@@user-ug4hw7oq7y Did I say he cared about those things? Can you not read and comprehend? He didn't say he wanted to D.I.E.....he said he just wants to relocate to Bakersfield area so he can spend his final years in peace. peace that he's not getting living in a broke down motorhome on the streets of LA.
Omg 😳 poor old men he doesn't deserve this abuse ❤may God protect u 🙏🙏🙏🌺
I’m so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. I made a small donation toward your goal and I hope with the money we raise for you that you can find that peaceful place in the country. You deserve it! ❤
We're in our sixtees and we have to move in the next 3 days to the streets
While illegal immigrants get thousands a month. It's absolutely disgraceful. I'm so very sorry this is happening to you. 😢🙏🏻 Hubby and I are on SS and if something happens to one of us, the other would be homeless. Sending you love and hugs.
Isn't there anyone to help you guys....
Bless you ❤❤❤.
😢
How U came to this point😢
That was an easy one. Donated. Please update us on his progress.
Donated. Born in '56 in Bakersfield and now have a little farm in TN. I wish you a peaceful, happy rural rest of your life.
I wish as a society we didn’t prioritize student loan forgiveness and about a dozen other things over this man 😔. Praying for him and our leadership.
This country is wealthy enough to take care of all that and more instead of wasting hundreds of billions and trillions on endless war mongering
He is the type of person that Section 8 housing was meant for.
The migrants are getting that housing now smh
@@sunnyday7457 yet migrant with no service or loyalty to our country are being put in luxury hotels immediately. Smh
