So smooth, so fluid, so musically appropriate, so interesting - this guy freaking rules!

I love that Gavin is introduced by a legend (Simon Philips).

This is my favorite version of this song. in the chorus on this version, the last bass note of every grouping of 3 is moved back by a half beat and it just adds so much groove. Gavin and Matt Gartska are my 2 go-to drummers right now. So good.

This was the first song I ever heard from this band. Ironically it was played on a local radio station where I live. The very first thing I noticed was the drumming. I went and bought the album and have loved them ever since. That was in 2004 and they are my favorite band hands down. I got to see them live on this last tour and it was amazing. If you ever get a chance to see these guys live do it. You will not be dissappointed. It will change your life.

Gavin Harrison has written 3 books on his unique drum fills. Rhythmic Perspectives, Rhythmic Illusions and Rhythmic Composition.

You should check out Hatesong Live. That’s the song that moved Gavin to the top of my drummer list. He’s incredible.

A lesson in how to make 7/4 time signature sound absolutely smooth. You barely miss the missing quarter note.
I think it was you that said the quote " he's not human".
I agree...I think Gavin was sent here from a dying planet by his parents to save the world of rock/ prog/ fusion drumming from a slow death, created by the non-musician world of awful pop music. 👍👍🥁

Only problem with that suggestion re getting GH to compile all his fills in a book - is that they are infinite - literally. He literally makes them as he plays along. He has stated his greatest fear as a drummer is to ever spot someone in the crowd at one of his gigs successfully airdrum along with him any fill he plays in any song - so he (as you rightly pointed out) NEVER plays the same fill twice. The word "freak" comes to mind.....
