Don't get overwhelmed! The best thing you can do is pick one section of water and learn it really well. From there you can experiment with all these different methods.

Thanks so much for this video on Steelhead, where & when !! I've been out several times in my local rivers in my Hyde looking for Steelhead, but they have alluded me each time, but that's fishing & we all know that can happen. I live in Ada, MI & whenever I am in the TC area I love to stop in your shop to chat & maybe pickup some supplies. I also have a small fly tying business at Home ( Fisher-of Men Fly Tying ) & always use as many patterns as I can during my outings to see what they might like to eat. Thanks again & hope to see more of your videos soon !! David

great video and great point with fishing near reds. so many guys go tunnel vision when face to face with a group of spawning steel, and i’ve seen on so many horrible snagging efforts to try to just mark a steelhead off the bucket list. fishing the backs and shoulders of gravel is how i catch nearly all of my fish, and the fish that are unseen are always the ones to eat and stay pinned!

Steelhead that came from the west coast have the exact same genetics as the ones in the great lakes. They are ALL the same Steelhead. Don't let anyone else tell you different.

You are correct, there’s a lot of people that are up tight about it.
So sick of hearing “meh ,no salt not a steelhead”
      Same strain from the west

Right, that's just like saying that striped bass (not hybrids) in big lakes, such as Raystown in PA, are not real stripers because they're in freshwater

Fall steelhead!! what I’ve learned is fall steelhead are typically in the river to either FEED (on eggs of other spawning fish such as salmon) or WINTER (which means they go up the river to WINTER and you are catching them on there way! Great video other then that!

I’ve caught them all 12 months. The skamania fishery in my area is epic, and I’ve caught them may-September. Factor in fall and spring fish, that I’ve caught September-may and I’ve covered it all

The river is where they spawn just like walleye pike and many other fish that can get into a riber

  • @seamusmcfitz913
    @seamusmcfitz913 ปีที่แล้ว

Not really "fall" they are winter steelhead.

15seconds in I’ll answer your question. You can’t find steelhead in Great Lakes mainly because steelhead are anandromous fish which primarily means they become ocean bound and return to their home stream to spawn. Essentially you are catching rainbow trout. You eastern fish folk are funny

Aww you're butt hurt over a MI steelhead that lives in the great lakes but comes in to our rivers. Look up our fishing guide and you can see we have rainbow trout and steelhead.

Wrong. You don't even have a degree.
Genes don't change. If you take a fish from the west coast and put them in the great lakes....it's still the same fish genetically. Simple concept.....
      Please do your research.
If I move to Hawaii from the main land, I'm still a human no matter where I move. Simple concept. Don't understand why you don't get it.

Sooo, what should we eastern folk call the chinook & coho salmon that are stocked in the Great Lakes?
