- Back in the nethertimes of cubing, there were two very controversial events: the Rubik's Magic, and the Master Magic. After some debate, they were eventually removed from the list of sanctioned events. Why did they do that?

Little did you know, the only regulation he broke was having a scrambled Megaminx in the background.

Hey, how about the evolution of speedcubes? From which cubes introduced which traits, such as Screws, grooves, torpedoes, to how Valk uses hollow corners instead of rounded corners to reduce cornertwists without compromising cornercutting, and how Gans use the GES system to reduce springnoise etc. I am really facinated by how far we've come in refining the mechanism of the rubiks cube

It is, but there are other reasons to keep 2x2 in that magic did not have; for one thing, it can actually be scrambled.
Love your videos so much, you do a great job at covering all sorts of puzzle-related stuff while keeping the spirit of The Internet Historian, whether it's through gud stock photos, humorous strings of text, or your great story-telling voice. :)

Actually they should scramble the magic like the ring messed up and the shape too. And then you have to bring it back to, or the linked, rings or the solved rings. And then its an actual challenge
still, the magic is just a test to see how dexterous you are. it is FAR too easy to break a magic.
Glad I did both the magic and master magic in competition back in 2005 and 2006. I’m in the archives forever. ( until they just erase it.)

I wonder, if somebody actually made notation for Magic, and made a way to scramble it, would it be added again? It’d be cool to see it back again, as a kind of resurrected puzzle.
They should mix up the magic! Then the solvers should bring it to the 3 rings then link them!
@Victor Giaquinto also, as the guy said, the magic has no notation, meaning it has no algorithms, meaning you have to just fiddle with it until you get it right. it also just might break during the "solve"

I have a 40th anniversary edition of that that literally just broke after a few solves. I'm planning on fixing it, but like, I could watch youtube videos, practice actual cube events, stare at a wall to watch paint dry... so many more exciting things.
