Actually it’s a common cop out way for the academy to give an award to a band that didn’t have a more proper release in a given year. Metallica won multiple Grammys this way, most notably stone cold crazy, which at the time was just a song on an Electra records anniversary album almost no one bought.
Im 50. I appreciate Slayer more today than i did thru the ages of 15-40. Never forget hearing Angel of Death on WPRB Out of Princeton U (College Station). It was the most badass song i had ever heard. Hearing Lombardo go off on drums? It was 100% pure unadulterated metal mayhem. It made Larz Ulrich obsolete overnight. And here i am 35yrs later and 11 Slayer Concerts later still banging my head to the best music ever written on this hell hole called Earth!
I'm also 50 and I couldn't agree more. Funny enough I also heard them first on a college station out of Rochester NY. That song was Chemical Warfare and I was hooked. Seen them 3 times in the last 2 years in 3 different parts of the country. 9 times in total.
Well I'm not quite 50 but I got into SLAYER when South of Heaven was released. It was a good time because after I wore that tape out I still had 3 other SLAYER albums to explore. I've seen them about 20 times. One time we followed them to 3 different show date. S.F., Sacramento and then Reno.
This song is about the arrival of the sixth sun in the Aztec calendar, when a sudden expansion of collective unconscious makes humanity realize its essential nature as interdimensional beings of light. Jeff was a crazed genius. He expanded on the theme in World Painted Blood. Jeff was a terrific musical storyteller. Kerry is a ranter, sometimes brilliant, but always tiring after 2-3 songs.
i seen Slayer at the Moore Theater in Seattle in 1986, i fell in love..not even in death do we part, since i have seen Slayer, idk over 15 times, maybe more, i lost count years and years ago...i seen them at the Paramount a couple weeks ago and i am 48...Araya is my hero, r.i.p. Surrender your cloth and collar priest
There's no need for your beliefs in war
This is a place for heathens
Into that darkness fires illuminate
Grotesquely swollen by the heat
A half-burned corpse hanging naked
A stream is poisoned by the dead
In the ghostly light, debris of war
Lead us to the brink of extinction
The time has come for you now to finish it
What has man become a funeral pyre
Now that judgment's near, prepare to die
Need to suffer, lust for power
Mindless hunger never win
Final six is here, the cycle ends
I have come for you, my child
And the gift I bring is murder
Sumerian death in eastern winds
Face the father of your terror
Godless warheads wait to breathe
Set their sights on history
Distant silhouettes of the dead
Blacken face screams through the ashes
Lead us to the brink of extinction
The time has come for you now to finish it
What has man become a funeral pyre
Now that judgment's near, prepare to die
Need to suffer, lust for power
Mindless hunger never win
Final six is here, the cycle ends
Mankind owes his pain to hell
As he brings the end upon himself
Arms rising from the ashes
In the ghastly light of human flares
Berith soldiers capture souls
Shadows of human sacrifice
The return of everything that's dead
A cryptic promise from the heavens
Lead us to the brink of extinction
The time has come for you now to finish it
Dead flowers for a faceless dead
A city engulfed by the smell of the death
Bodies piled beneath the mist
Walking dead among the living
The world will bleed while horseman ride
Now that God has wept for Judas
Days are numbered, find your grave
Forever trying to escape to hell

really?
Well, it is true that a lot of metal and rock musicians back then couldn't read sheet, like Hendrix, Mustaine, and Slash.

Slayer's badass. Also, don't sweat yourself, you have good english goin for you dude.
The person who made that billboard is my hero.

For all of you who are wondering where to get this song besides the rare edition of Christ Illusion, it's on the soundtrack for Punisher: War Zone.
