We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the long delay between this video and the last one, but it has been a difficult time for certain members of the team (nothing major, just personal stresses and obstacles which needed to be overcome) so we were unable to work at full capacity. We hope you like this new episode, but if legends aren’t your thing (and we know many of you prefer real life mysteries) stick around for the next few vids, we think they’ll be more up your street :-)
@Bedtime Stories, it's OK, hope it all gets worked out... AnD I like it when the stories get a good mix. Although true paranormal stories are my fav...I also enjoy others !! 💙🙋💜 ✌
As someone who works at night patrolling in a forest I appreciate this. Especially since it's also winter right now. Watching this during my shift for the ultimate experience.
Chuck the hunter sounds like the most credible & significant story - I can't imagine someone making up a fake encounter to mess with people & then still sticking to it as they were dying.
DustWarden It's a story, told second hand by his son after the father who allegedly experienced it had died. Therefore the one who was supposed to have seen this was no longer around to confirm or deny it. This is not a sign of a credible story, it is the exact opposite.
@@mikeyturcanu I do sometimes find myself wishing there was more photos, especially since a few thing I remember seeing pictures of(or maybe they were simply different reconstructions)
My thought exactly. There is no reason why he needed to go see what that was if that story is true. He's isolated out in the middle of no where with nothing to defend himself with? Yeah, idk, that alone makes the story sound suspect.
Somebody wanted him to come outside, probably didn't know who had been left behind. Never assume you're too far out for there to be someone checking on you.
_exe I’ve never heard about Wendigo until I’ve watched you tubers play until dawn, and I’ve never heard about the curse of the Ourang Medan until I watched Man of Medan
Hey, he's lucky. I'd honestly pay money for a Bedtime Stories book, illustrations and all! Especially for scaring the crap out of my co workers if I leave it in the office 'by accident'.
I live on a farm in Minnesota surrounded by a grove, One time back when I was about 16, my parents were on vacation, so it was my job to feed and water our barnyard animals, I had just gotten the feed for our horses, and started making my way twards the horse pen, when I noticed, it had become dead silent, not a gust of wind to be heard, not a bird in the sky, even our cows went silent, and then, I suddenly got this dreadful feeling like I was being watched. I tried to finish my chores as quickly as possible, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right, I became so unnerved and flat out scared, that I started talking and even shouting out loud to myself, hoping I could get some reaction from any birds maybe sleeping in our grove, but nothing... dead silence, and that damn omnipresent glare I could feel just wouldn't go away, eventually I finished up chores, and drove to a family friend's house for the night. I never saw or heard anything, and I don't know what it was, if it was a Wendigo or just my nerves, but it put the fear of God in me, and that last story in this video sounded remarkably similar to the feeling I got, and, when I think about it, I'm glad I didn't walk into the grove to investigate.
I got that EXACT feeling about 2 years ago, I walked dogs at this time, I decided to go down a path I hadn't explored yet with this dog, pickle, a Puggle, I had very mixed feelings about this dog, he was nice but he had a knack for eating ANYTHING, cow poop, cat poop, bird poop, entire dead rodents and birds. It was the hottest summer in the history of the UK at the time, we stuck to entirely shaded areas near water, I didn't suggest walking him in these conditions but his owners insisted, on this new route we approached a bridge underpass and that's when I felt it, in an instant my body went from sweating and overwhelmed by the heat to Ice cold, the air around that area caused instant goosebumps, Pickle ran after something and I thought "please not another putrid meal" but he was just fixated on something. A large, hairy humanoid ear hammered into the wall, pickle wanted NOTHING to do with it after smelling it, and the smell was rancid, stuck in my nose for about 3 days. The entire time I had the piercing sensation of eyes on me, but I saw no one, felt like something was gonna rush out at me the entire time. I returned about 3 months later, this time with a mean, fiery and disobedient Malinois Mastiff mix, she weighed 135lbs, and hated everyone but her owners, would make me fly like a kite at the end of her leash the entire walk, but when we got to the bridge she walked by my side, hackles raises and extremely alert the entire time, resumed to her normal self after we left the place
If you feel like your being watched by some creature, it is always good to speak out loud about Jesus Christ and ask him for protection and praise him. After all these evil creatures are demons manifested in some kind of body and they hate Jesus and want nothing to do with him and might leave you alone. I hope this helps.
Me too when I was in Ely in the winter I saw red eyes it wasn't scary for me. Years later I have a skinwalker spirit which is like an older brother to me.
One thing I always love about these is "The footpringts were right outside his window, someone or someTHING watched him sleep." Like yeah this thing is trying to lure you outside to kill you because murder is fine and within its bounds but it will be god DAMNED if it commits property damage by breaking through the window
Maybe it's sorta like that vampire myth thing where he cannot come inside your house unless invited, although I can't really imagine someone inviting anything looking like that inside their house
"If you go down to the woods today, you'd better go in disguise." I know it's a poem, but this makes me laugh.Because it implies that the Wendigo is after someone SPECIFIC. "Aww damn, that's not Bob. Bob doesn't wear a hat. Guess you get to live buddy, I'm here to eat Bob today"
Thats even scarier. It just means whatever is after you doesnt give a shit about anyone else so you wouldnt even be able to afford protection. Itd come straight for you ala It Follows
But if you're not Bob then why do you need a disguise basically it implies anyone going to the woods needs a disguise so wtf are u supposed to disguise urself as, a tree?
I’m going to be honest here, eastern Canada is a pretty spooky place. I remember going to my great grandfathers place in Newfoundland, he had died some seven years earlier. I was sleeping on an inflatable mattress with my pop (grandfather) and for the whole night I couldn’t help but feel like there was something watching me. In the middle of the night I heard thuds outside our door as if someone were walking by but we were the only ones in the house. I’ve read other stories about people in areas having similar experiences and I could have honestly imagined it but I like to imagine it was my great-pop checking in on us. It’s a more friendly ghost story but spooky nonetheless
My Dad told me about when he stayed at an old fort (he worked as a guard I think), he heard steel heeled shoes on the stairs and then walking by him. But there wasn't anyone there.
Trivia: The depiction of a Wendigo as a large, animalistic monster, often with a deer-skull for a head, actually comes from a very similar legendary creature called a Wechuge. Wechuge are created by someone who consumes too much spiritual energy, thus becoming possessed by their own spirit animal, and turning into a ravenous hybrid-animal monster with many of the same properties as a Wendigo.
When I was a child my parents gave me a book about the canadian wilderness. Within it there were several blurbs about canadian folklore including that of the wendigo. The painting that accompanied it was of a man naked save for a white pelt on his head and shoulders. He had bloodshot eyes and a blue heart symbolizing the icy heart contained within the creature. The man was shoving whole beaver pelt covered men into its sharp an grotesquely over opened maw. That to me has always been the wendigo. It's a gaunt person who has forsaken their humanity to eat the flesh of their kin. Didn't help me none to hear my mom recounting our native lore all my life. I was taught early of the evils that lurked out in the wilderness looking for any weakness in our hearts to prey upon us.
In Canada it’s kinda scary how often you’ll wake up in the winter with footprints in the snow outside your house. God damn people be snooping around man.
In the first story my biggest emotion wasn't fear of the wendigo but fear for the safety of the dog, and I was super relieved at the end of the story when the dog turned out to be ok lol.
Imagine being chased through a dark snowy forest by something constantly shouting stuff like "Come back!" and "Help me!" in a perfect imitation of a crying loved one.
New to your channel. You are an amazing storyteller. Your voice is perfect for it! It reminds me of Kit Harrington's voice, (Jon Snow from Game of Thrones). Oh, and am I the only one who was relieved that the dog lived in the first story? lol
Oh, I thought you meant John Snow from BBC News! Imagine my horror, watching an apparent changeling read passages from silly celebrities' bios on "Big Fat Quiz" so many years ago. ...Makes more sense now.
I’m 97% native according to my 21n me and I have deer around my house and there’s been times where I’ve been shooting hoops by myself and I hear these weird sounds in the forest that’s literally 20 yards from my hoop/driveway and I always ignore it. But there’s this feeling I get when it happens even when I have headphones in about that forest but I can see my neighbors house on the other side through it. I’ve asked him about it and even he has said when he’s walking his dog at night he hears sounds I.e. snaps or moany sounds from the forest so it makes me wonder. I’ve surrounded my yard with salt and done sage around it so I think they’re blocked from coming to the house that’s what I believe.
Can never get mad at these guys for not posting as much. They do all the art, production, narration. I say it from time to time they deserve way more subs like scary mysteries channel.
For those of you who have never been, the upper peninsula of Michigan is like being in a different country all together. It's like you've teleported to a prehistoric part of Alaska where a snowstorm can drop easily more than 1 foot an hour. There's terrain and features you won't see anywhere below the bridge . It's beyond beautiful but very intimidating.
I go to iron mountain front the middle of wisconsin to the disposal at 4 a.m. through the checuamegan national forest.taken 15 trips in a year and a half.entire towns engulfed in white fog.the trees swallow you up.see weird flashes in the night sky.something keeps nagging in my mind that I'm going to see something.there has to be creatures up there.
I live in Northern Michigan, my great grandparents are buried in the U.P. and Gwinn state forrest is 278,000 miles and that's just one of the state and national forests up there. There are also several reservations in our upper peninsula, it's a beautiful place but it's very rural and sparsely populated. You talk to most tribal members who live there and they believe with all of their hearts that they have seen something and refuse to discuss it any further.
We have been watching this channel for years. Beautifully drawn and beautifully told, very atmospheric. This video inspired us to also make a Wendigo film, as a Lego stop-motion, which we dedicated to Bedtime Stories. We really hope that Richard, Mikey and Simon find time to watch it. 😀
Usually legends are used to explain something we couldn't understand at the moment, Wendigos might just be some poor bastards who've gone insane from hunger or the cold.
It's called Wendigo Psychosis, brought on by ravenous hunger in the winter. For ex: Swift Runner was a Cree hunter and trapper from the country north of Fort Edmonton, Alberta. He was a big man, over six feet tall, and well liked. He was mild and trustworthy, a considerate husband, and very fond of his children (a little too fond of his children, as events proved). All of these traits endeared him to his people and to the traders of the Hudson’s Bay Company. But this was not enough to allay suspicion when he returned from his winter camp in the spring of 1879 without his wife and family. When he could not give a satisfactory account of their whereabouts, his in-laws became worried. They decided to tell the North West Mounted Police, who had then been in the West for just five years. Inspector Sévère Gagnon was given the task of investigating Swift Runner’s behavior. He and a small party of policemen accordingly trekked out to the trapper’s camp. Swift Runner obligingly showed the Mounted Policemen a small grave near his camp. He explained that one of his boys had died and was buried there. Gagnon and his detachment opened the grave and found the bones undisturbed. That, however, did not explain the human bones scattered around the encampment. Gagnon produced a skull, which Swift Runner willingly told him was that of his wife. Without much prodding, Swift Runner revealed what had happened to the rest of his family. At first, Swift Runner became haunted by dreams. A Wendigo spirit called on him to consume the people around him. The spirit crept through his mind, gradually taking control. Finally he was a Wendigo, and Swift Runner no longer. Then the Wendigo killed and ate Swift Runner’s wife.
I always understood that the story was intended to keep the desperately hungry from eating other people. Some versions claim you must eat human flesh to become a wendigo, while others say it's more like a type posession that drives the host to seek out human meat. Either way, it seems to me that it's a cautionary legend warning of the horrific results if one should turn to cannibalism. The main thing that reinforces this for me is that the wendigo is a winter creature, coming out when food supplies are naturally slim and indigenous people would be struggling to get enough food. But I'm getting into the origins of this legend, not the more modern reports of it like what's in this video.
Humans are easy to dismiss things they can not understand but must realize some things are beyond our understanding. We aren't all knowing. Without a doubt I believe the forest & ocean hold creatures we haven't discovered or discovered but couldn't believe what we saw.
I've spent a lot of time in the woods. I can definitely see how a lot of these strange stories got a start. Hiking through the woods one day, I swore I almost stepped on a little goblin/kid thing with big black eyes.. I ran about 30 feet. I grabbed a big stick, before I decided to walk back. Circling the area, I saw it again. Moving close, I eventually realized it was a great horned owl. At the time I didn't realize, what a 2ft tall owl looked like. Glad I went back, or I would still be haunted by it. ( Yes, it was day..yes, it was standing on the ground ).
Electrickoolaid A the unexplored ocean bit is true. I’m not sure about the forest thing but we know more about Mars and the moon then the bottom of our oceans.
Literally the best. I don't understand why you guys don't have millions of subs considering how many people sign up for similar content from less thorough and entertaining sources.
I had a possible encounter with a Wendigo a few days ago on a week long camping trip in Northern Pennsylvania. I was waking up one morning when I heard a strange noise coming from behind our campsite. The moment the sun peaked out from behind the trees I heard this loud scream, so loud it echoed off the hills around me. It sounded demonic. If I could describe it it sounded like a high pitched wail combined with metal screeching, and it carried on for at least two or three seconds. It could've been another person or maybe just a waking dream, but to me it sounded very real, almost too real. I kept my head on a swivel for the rest of the week, especially at night and in the early morning.
I'm a member of the Cree people in Saskatchewan, Canada.i grew up hearing about the weetigo ..in our language it's weetigo.its true what is described in the video.i was told IT (weetigo) is a evil spirit which possess a person when they become to greedy and selfish.the physical discpription is spot on.. good job.. they eat their own lips off because they have an insatiable appetite for flesh and have a loud paralyzing scream.once in awhile you still here of people being possessed by a weetigo spirit up here in Cree country.but in our legends there are certain people who could battle and kill them but those were really brave and spiritual people.usually they had to cut off there heads and fight them on the ice because they had no traction.
@@ATeamFan007 The Jesuits swore these things were real and that they could be killed with a club or musket shot. I've stood one down before when I used to work out in security for sites in the middle of large forested areas. Once I returned to the car to get my 12 gauge (Semi auto loaded with Brenneke Black Magics as I used to have to deal with bears and mountain lion) it vanished into the brush. I would bet you (really don't want to find out) but I would bet it will die with enough rounds put on target. As for the Spiritual bit from the OP, I was and still am a young adults group leader/minister. I have a feeling I had some help from on high that night.
Im native and live in Saskatchewan also the stories ive heard about them is pretty fucked I was told never to say it's name out in the bush as your basically calling it to you and decapitating it is the only way to kill it
Something that is kind of an oddball quirk in every single one of the stories is that it goes dead silent, no noise what so ever. Reminds me of the Silence that was brought up in your There’s Something in the Woods video. Is it possible that these two are even semi-related?
EdyTheBoss78 nah, 096 is still in containment/neutralized, it doesn’t actively attempt to kill you unless you harm it or if you look at its face. In these stories the Wendigo is attempting to lure its prey into the woods to kill them in private. TL;DR the Wendigo and 096 are completely separate entities, that being said, thank you for allowing me to over analyze a joke
I spent time around Cree in Prince Albert Saskatchewan. I came here expecting to be disappointed at inaccurate accounts of the Wendigo, but this video was well done and holds enough benefit of the doubt to be credible. Up North you’re still not allowed to talk about the Wendigo in any language when there is snow on the ground.
Amazing video! I live in northern Canada and I am also Metis, one of the three Aboriginal groups in Canada. The winters here are long and cold and dark; the story of the Wendigo/Witiko/Windigo was a lesson to those as to not to eat your people if you were starving in the winter. A similar creature in the Metis folklore is the Rugaru, or werewolf, but the Rugaru and Wendigo are considered two completely different creatures by the Metis. I highly recommend reading about Jack Fiddler, and Oji-Cree/Swampy Cree who "defeated" fourteen Wendigos. As I said before, the north is dark and cold and we are surrounded by the boreal forest; who knows what stalks us.
It seems like the harsher conditions of the north had something to do with these legends. I live in Akwesasne. (Which is about the furthest south you can go without being in America.) And there's nothing like the wendigo as far as legends go.
Dani H. ... Aren't metis the specifically "mixed" people who adopted a lifestyle of their own, significantly revolving around buffalo hunting and processing? Or are we counting all traditionally native cultures as one, in which case what's the third?
Wow, I'm actually blown away by how great the subtitled format is, it makes it something you can actively pay attention to rather than just listening to it in the background, bit you can still do that. This is hands down my new favorite horror story channel. Plus this guy's voice is great for narration. Thumbs up x10- Keep up the fantastic work my dude!
My favourite portion of this video is the analysis of the how the myth has developed. I think it is quite possible that scary stories were developed to prevent people from doing bad things. Why not? Hansel & Gretel was written to keep children out of the woods, right? Also, the video clip around 20 min is terrifying. Thanks for debunking it.
I've seen them three times, outside my windows. I grew up in a ranch style, single family home on a quarter acre lot, in a quiet, rural town in Massachusetts. My family is of Native American descent. The bedroom my sister and I shared was a tiny 10-by-12-foot room, with two 54-by-29-inch windows. The glass panes were six over one, and from outside the sill was about 3 1/2 feet off the ground. We slept in a bunk bed. She had the top bunk, and I had the bottom one. It was summer, hazy, hot and humid. At the time, we did not have air conditioning, so the windows were kept open to let in the breeze. It did not help much in cooling down the house. My sister was sitting at the head of my bed. She was reading a story to me. I suddenly felt icy cold. I had the feeling that I had to look out the window, but I did not want to. It felt as if, I had to. I could not believe what I was seeing. There were glowing red eyes, staring in at me. I could not look away from what I saw, believe me, I tried. The eyes were about 2 feet up from the windowsill. They were staring at me. I get chills just remembering this. It took, what seemed forever to tear my gaze away. When I did, I rushed to the head of the bed and told my sister to look out the window. When she finally did, the eyes were gone. Another time, I was home alone. My parents were out for the evening, and my sister was staying with a friend. I was sitting in the living room watching TV when out the corner of my eye I saw something move. I should tell you from where I was sitting I could see into the bathroom and straight out the bathroom window to the backyard. I turned to look, and I saw what looked like a skull, up close to the window, moving toward the back door area. Now for it to be that close to the window, it would have to have been walking in the flowerbed. It would also, have had to walk across the cellar door. I was terrified. I closed my eyes and stayed in that chair all night. I did not move a single muscle. Another time, I had finally gotten a room of my own. It is a mirror image of our shared bedroom. After having moved into it, I felt a presence. Outside my window there was a 12-inch wide flower garden, then the driveway, which is about 5 feet wide. Next to that was the woodpile. Sitting on top of the woodpile was a large, white-colored creature. It had long limbs, broad hands with thin spidery fingers and glowing red eyes. It was staring in at me. I tore my gaze away from it, after what seemed forever to me, and hid under the covers until morning. My mother found me like that, under the sheet and coverlet. She wondered how I could breathe under there.
man your story is so scary and terrifying I think now you should carry some firearms for your safety two pistol with handful of mags and an AR, and two pitbull dogs please you had three fucking encounters with this beast you should it for your safety man
SnowRabbitmck You probably saw a skin walker and not a wendigo because wendigos are commonly found in the winter when food is scarce whilst a skin walker is found in hot rural places
Bruh it’s dark in the middle of a thunderstorm in my small rural town of Massachusetts and the video with the creature screaming is playing as I read your story guess I’m not sleeping now
I had a Cree frend when I was a kid. His grandma told a story about the windigo. Go north Go north till the trees stop. Load your slead with wood Go north When you run out of wood You are in the land of the windigo. The windigo poseses lost hunters. And thows trapped in snow storms. It is a wind spirit and causes hunters to eat their companions. You can reconize one posesd by it because there gums are drawn back, and their fingers are black. Skin tight and emaciated.
I really appreciate you pointing out all the issues with these videos. It really annoys me how many channels will just show stuff like that and not question it in the least
I don't know if there was another video from you guys that had me this tense. This is my favorite of you so far. Keep up the great work! Finally another cryptid video! It's been a while since you made one! Can't wait for the next one! See ya!
15:08 I have experienced this; everything going quiet. At this point you have gone through some kind of transition. Time changes. ... Once, while animal tracking in the forest, I stepped into a different time. ... You really know that something weird has happened when the sound comes back on again. That is more noticable. ...
I've been going through a lot of your vids (mostly as background noise when I sleep) and I have to say, I appreciate that you're one of the few readthrough/creepy event narrator on youtube that I've found that will *actually* approach a lot of these things with healthy skepticism. That generally the end of each video consists of you going over things and saying "odds are, this is fake" or "this is just a legend passed down through time" and not automatically and constantly present everything as fact is refreshing. Keep up the good work in general, my friend!
I'm HOOKED on Bedtime Stories !! Love the way the stories are presented and narrated. Always well researched and thought out. Its really great that the tales are told as truthfully and fairly as possible, giving creedence to the original story and offering opinions to both possible sides, pro & con. I'm always on the watch for new stories as I've watched every one posted on You Tube already. ! And yes, subscribed and always share.
@@user-jn1wm3tb8v All humans wear cloathing when its snowing, your skin color does not make a diference for disguise when you have cloathing on top of it.
I was always under the impression the N. Americans viewed the Wendigo as very real, not made-up. Sure, it's what today we'd call a legend, same as Skinwalkers, but I don't think the Natives were so naive lol.
Well, the stories come from somewhere; If there was a bad harvest from crops or the wild rice or oak trees, people would starve. It was a hard life for lake lands tribes. We would keep stores of up to 2 to 3 years of extra food in case there were bad harvests, but things would happen. It was a large reason why many communities would split off into smaller bands when winter came, it was easier to keep people fed and survive the harsh conditions. In the tribe I'm from, it's taboo to listen to or tell stories out of season.
@XXENOLOGY settlers couldnt even survive 1 winter without help. You were not that advanced only in areas of destructive devices. The arrogance of white people.
I really appreciate your very rational analysis of the videos of purported wendigos. Too many times channels on TH-cam make videos with clips of unusual events, creatures, paranormal, UFOs, etc and just accept them at face value without paying attention to details that give them away as obvious fakes. It drives me nuts to see these videos so many believe to be authentic when it's obviously been altered or setup, or might even be a clip from an obscure independent horror movie. Loving this channel, thanks for the interesting content and levelheaded analysis.
If it weren't for its location, the first story sounds a lot like an encounter with a Kushtaka. They sing like women, or cry like infants, or scream for help, to try and lure its victims to creeksides and rivers to eat them, and I've read variations where they steal their victims voices to lure their victim's families in.
It's almost as if this stuff isn't special to the native Americans. We Slavs called such creatures Leshy. They lured travelers to their deaths in woods with trickery of all kinds.
Huzzah, another upload! I can't describe how nice it feels to have another one of these videos up for viewing. The narration is good, the illustrations are utterly stunning, and the content is always good, even the most overdone subjects have flavorful twists on them ^^
I love this channel just for the sheer variety of stories, real life mysteries, ghost stories, legends, all of it are just amazing and I love everything you guys do. Keep it up and much love for you guys
Many years ago, there used to be an American series called ‘Cheyenne ‘ about a wandering cowboy. I was just a child but I loved it. In one of the episodes, there was an old Native American chief and when he made a certain whistling sound, a horrifying creature would appear. I think this was perhaps a Wendigo. It scared me for many years afterwards. This was a very interesting video. And I love that John was reading ‘Bedtime Stories’. 😃👍 Thank you.
Exceptional writing as always, and fantastic illustrations by Mikey. I loved the videos added at the end! This is a great video length, I think, at least for viewers. I hope that the difficult time certain members of the team are going through ease up soon and that you can enjoy producing these videos as much as we love watching them!!
The quality of your videos is amazing. They are very well done. The narration is done at a perfect tempo and the music underlines it all perfectly. Thank you for a good quality channel.
I've heard many reports almost exactly like these.. Some described with antlers and even some with bat-like wings (though I doubt this). People describe their eyes varied in color from black to off-white, orange, and yellow, etc., but all one solid color, in large deep-set holes in their faces. The screech is trademark, and many describe them as being able to mimic the voices of loved ones. As a biologist, I want to find out what they actually are biologically. However, they are clearly not primate-like, yet they are bizarrely humanoid in shape. They seem more animalistic than technological, so that would rule out aliens (at least in theory, to me), but their ability to almost sense and project the voices of people's loved ones does seem to suggest some sort of supernatural or paranormal aspect to them, which baffles me.. Usually they are thought to observe groups of people, and mimic their voices as they hear them, but some reports appear to indicate that there is no logical way from them to be able to 'guess' the voices or vernacular of people's loved ones. I'm convinced that people are indeed seeing something, but I have no explanation as to what "it" or "they" are..
@@aplaguedoctor406 It seems illogical for a flying creature to have antlers. Antlers are heavy and cause air resistance, so if it has antlers, it wouldn't have any evolutionary point of having wings.
Your illustrations are stunningly beautiful and your stories are haunting....but there is also something very sad about many of them. I'm subscribing to you. I recently found your channel, and I've enjoyed listening to the stories as I work.
Yeah, Supermassive offered the most terrifying depiction of a Wendigo I've ever seen. Until Dawn doesn't stop scaring me! Even though the snow is falling softly in the night and everything feels peaceful while comforting music plays, you feel like you're being watched or hunted long before the first encounter with the Wendigo.
So, I've spent two maybe three days binge watching these videos (time is kind of a blur now) and I have to say they're great! I personally like the idea that the Wendigo is a myth/legend based on a different creature or creatures with the discrepancies in physical appearance being derived from what the local people were afraid of as the legend spread. In Europe we used to have various myths and legends about different creature and spirits which lived in the woods but with industrialisation, war and centuries of deforestation much of our native woodlands have been replaced or simply cleared. North America however still retains vast tracks of unspoiled woodland and forests which may still be home to creatures of legend. And I love that idea, whether it's provable or not. Although Europe should get the gold medal for demons, ghosts and hauntings in general. We have thousands of years of wars, plagues, death and generally bad ju-ju. Keep up the good work and if you need something making regarding Europe give me a call ;-).
The release of Until Dawn has made them quite a bit more popular in recent years, at least on the internet creepy-pasta scene. Otherwise, great video, the Wendigo is a fascinating creature to me, just as fascinating as the Skinwalker. Keep these coming!
The second story reminds me of a story my mother told me when I was younger. I don't remember all the details as it was many years ago. When she was a kid, she was living in a remote house with her siblings and parents. I think if I recall correctly, it was on a farm out in the middle of nowhere. She told me how one night there was some "creature" that was "running all over the roof and outside walls making a hellova racket". The event lasted maybe an hour and was witnessed by some of my aunts and uncles as well as my grandparents. They never did see what it was, but they said it moved way faster than anything they have ever heard. It also tore up the window screens (metal screens back then). It was trying to get into the house and my grandparents made sure everything was locked and all the kids stayed inside. Another story I remember... one night my grandparents, her, and a couple of her siblings were going down a country road when she saw a light in the sky. She said it was far off to begin with but quickly approached the car and hovered directly above the car out of sight. My grandparents floored it but the light kept up with them. Then, she said it just flew off. My grandparents told them to never speak a word about that to anyone. Based on her age in the stories, these events probably happened in the early to mid-1960s. I have had my own share of "strange events" in my life, except I got real good looks at some of the things I encountered and nobody would believe me anyway.
@@hectorpreston8115 The Barret rifle sounds heavy lug around (Thankfully not an Anzio 20mm rifle, my back probably be breaking after marching with the rifle and ammo over a mile or so), especially for my weight and muscle size probably being not adequate for carrying it around since I'm light weight and an AR fitting my category for quick movements. Though I like the sound of fragmentation grenades since I'll be able to frag enemy positions with out having to expose myself as much.
I experienced something like this in western Wisconsin. I never saw it directly just a quick flash of it while I was driving through the woods. I do have pictures of the dammage that was done to my side by side.
I believe I encountered something like this about 10 years ago right outside the Snoqualmie reservation in the Washington Cascades. Off a service road off stampede pass where I used to camp. Was out with a couple of friends, did all the camping shit without incident and go to bed. I wake up around 3am and opened my tent to grab a bottle.of water and about 30 yards away I saw this big grey/white rock next to this bush. Something seemed off though idk what so I just watched for a minute. Then the rock moved, and it lifted up above tbe bush and that's when I realized it was a head, not a rock. It was very dark and at that distance the moon provided very few details but the eyes were very large and very dark. My whole body felt. like a bolt of lightening struck it all hairs on end. I just had an 870 loaded with 00buck but at 30 yards it should've provided a lethal hit, especially since I racked off 7 shells in just a few seconds. Whenever it was hit it bounced like a pop can away from me, looked almost like a big frog bouncing away. No screams or crazy noises, it just took off. There was no blood trail left over or any indication that I did significant damage to the creature. I know I didn't miss, it just didn't stop the thing. It still bothers me thinking about it, not a fear thing, but a confusion thing. Idk man.
I believe what you saw. The Sumerians had a myth about not entering a certain set of mountains after nightfall. People and caravans were being attacked and the people being slaughtered or never seen again. These creatures were genetic experiments carried out by the Igigi or fallen angels. These experiments consist of 200 humans. And if they can infect people. Well then they must exist today. Most likely why people always have had these stories and encounters dating back 1000's of years.
I have Cherokee blood, and family and friends we all agree: you don't talk about this sort of thing if you can help it. It can capture the creature's attention and draw them to you. Be it something like this, or the 'little people,' you just don't. A dude I know told me a friend of his said not to go into this certain wooded area around the local lake because there were skinwalkers and wendigo there. He said he had went anyway alone, and didn't see any unusual creatures, but he did find an abandoned well, and what seemed to be where a house used to be, now only having the basement left. There had been some vandalizing, of course, but he couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. He took a photo of the inside of the 'basement' and there was an unusual pair of glowing eyes looking back from the dark. That's when he decided to book it out and had to travel at least two miles back to the main trail. I saw the picture, not sure what to think of it, but the whole area has an off vibe anyway. I have heard odd sounds and my name called, known people to have practiced things they shouldn't have down at a park, seen the odd black cats etc. I was told that people close to the land will often experience glimpses of things, who knows.
glowing eyes will be a cat or raccoon etc. hearing your name called is just a trick of the mind, happens to me all the time at the park during daylight
this is very helpful knowing the fact i live near a dense forest in canada, and now i know theres a sinister creature lurking out there somewhere, i can sleep so much better, great video (for real great vid)
Theres a reson why Wendigo stories were told in the winter. Algonquin say they come out when the snows fall and travel the lonely woods and mountains of Canada and the US. Who why would they be walking around in summer without any snow. People like to make up stuff that isn't even irrelevant to the lore.
Also, Native American tribe members may be hungry and sometimes starving during harsh winters, cannibalism can occur if left unchecked, and there were greedy, miserly tribe members who would hoard the plants they gathered or the meat they got from hunting. So the legend of the Wendigo is basically a cautionary tale against cannibalism and greed.
I always get skeptical when I see video clips claiming a monster sighting. I can never help thinking that those involved are acting out a horror scene, while trying not to act like people acting out a horror scene. The second clip, for instance - no one's gut reaction would be to turn the light off and continue speaking in an easily-audible voice. The first instinct would be to try to see whatever was making the sound. This is a great video, though, and an intriguing legend. I love Algernon Blackwood's short story "The Wendigo"; it doesn't really hold to the most common lore, but it is a haunting read.
AstralDragoon Yeah none of those were real, I study VFX and the shots where a creature is briefly seen is definitely composed in, the audio also doesn’t make sense. The only one that didn’t look unnatural was the graveyard one where some guy is using a doll sitting behind the gravestone... Anyway wish you well and hope you never meet a real one.
1st clip is definitely staged. They couldn't put the camera on the people by the fire because then the exposure would be darkened even more and you'd not see the 'creature' who has their own light source. Have to love how in the 2nd clip he can't keep the camera on the light until it is time for the 'reveal' then it is suddenly all steady cam. However they lose points for using the predator cackle sounds laid in with a few others to make it 'spooky'. The 3rd clip has been posted many times as 'alien in a graveyard', 'demon in graveyard' etc and seeing it close up and how the arms fail to move, it is most likely someone trying to puppet a large alien prop while staying hidden behind the gravestone. I've seen the 4th clip posted as a Bigfoot encounter from various sources. I agree with you on the sound, quite definitely it stays at a steady volume despite the distance and is very crisp sounding. Also we hear no noise of the creature going through the woods after them, which if this is supposed to be real and given how the volume of the creature's velociraptor hiss stays constant and would indicate it was the same distance behind them ie giving chase, there should be extra brush disturbance noise and perhaps footfalls. Good video, very entertaining and a good atmosphere set., 'real clips' not so real.
Kate Nunyabizness, do you know where is the graveyard in the 3rd clip taken? Those tombstones look like the Japanese one a lot, though I can't see any engravings clearly.

I’ve not played Until Dawn but have watched videos on it. It’s how I first heard about the wendigo legend. The prospect of being consumed by hunger to the point you desire a taste for flesh is definitely scary. The fact the legend says you transform into one if you eat human flesh is definitely a fate worse than death.

It’s a more friendly ghost story but spooky nonetheless
i second this
My Dad told me about when he stayed at an old fort (he worked as a guard I think), he heard steel heeled shoes on the stairs and then walking by him. But there wasn't anyone there.
I always feel like I’m being watched but I imagine it’s my grandpa who died when I was like three

Cole Jordan thanks!
But I'm getting into the origins of this legend, not the more modern reports of it like what's in this video.
yeah I also grow 8 feet tall when im hungry

Yeah I wonder if the hunter had shot it what would of happened, perhaps if it chased him onto the ice he could of killed it with the knife

EdyTheBoss78 nah, 096 is still in containment/neutralized, it doesn’t actively attempt to kill you unless you harm it or if you look at its face.

I was always under the impression the N. Americans viewed the Wendigo as very real, not made-up. Sure, it's what today we'd call a legend, same as Skinwalkers, but I don't think the Natives were so naive lol.
It's almost like they were primitive tribesmen or something.
@@16517 by out of season do you mean like telling wendigo stories out of winter?

Antlers? Seems legit.
Bat wings? Now that's just crazy.
@@aplaguedoctor406 It seems illogical for a flying creature to have antlers. Antlers are heavy and cause air resistance, so if it has antlers, it wouldn't have any evolutionary point of having wings.
Haven't you heard stories of ouija? These evil spirits can impersonate somebody else's identity.
Yeah when you hear stories of antlers and bat wings that makes the legend a million times less credible.
I've never read a story that wasn't clearly a creepypasta in which they killed someone. The mind reading, the trickery, it's fae.
Your illustrations are stunningly beautiful and your stories are haunting....but there is also something very sad about many of them. I'm subscribing to you. I recently found your channel, and I've enjoyed listening to the stories as I work.
I'm getting an Until Dawn vibe from this.
Thank you

Fallout 76’s wendigo is kinda scary too

the first man saw a skin walker, skin walkers will take on the voice of a loved one to lure you in closer to them.
Wendigos do the same thing in several different medias and folklore
Skin walkers are Navajo
Yeah in folklore of wendigo they imitate people and animals
When the first 30 seconds is scary enough for you to listen to the video in another tab, then you know Bedtime Stories made a great one.
You can share your story here and I am willing to believe you:)

My absolute favorite storyteller! Hope all is well
I have Cherokee blood, and family and friends we all agree: you don't talk about this sort of thing if you can help it.
Majøra Majør shows us the picture

glowing eyes will be a cat or raccoon etc. hearing your name called is just a trick of the mind, happens to me all the time at the park during daylight

i talk about midgets all the time.
this is very helpful knowing the fact i live near a dense forest in canada, and now i know theres a sinister creature lurking out there somewhere, i can sleep so much better, great video (for real great vid)
Theres a reson why Wendigo stories were told in the winter. Algonquin say they come out when the snows fall and travel the lonely woods and mountains of Canada and the US. Who why would they be walking around in summer without any snow. People like to make up stuff that isn't even irrelevant to the lore.
I'd like to think it's because their prey moves slower in the snow.
Your claws are sharp, your voice is low, this is how you WENDIGO.
Honestly, You're not funny.
Honestly, I thought that was funny 😄
What did I just wander into
I've been listening to this one story for so damn long. I love the legend of the Wendigo.
Oh, that story had weird ass wendigos.
Shutting the light off would be my first instinct, in case another person is watching, although the video is fake I'm sure.
Kate Nunyabizness, do you know where is the graveyard in the 3rd clip taken? Those tombstones look like the Japanese one a lot, though I can't see any engravings clearly.

The fact the legend says you transform into one if you eat human flesh is definitely a fate worse than death.
