    I live on King Street in the Entertainment District. Non-stop gridlock seven days a week. They need to get rid of cars and give streetcars and bicycles dedicated lanes all the way down King.

      Have you heard about the King St. Pilot project? Streetcars have the priority on King St.

    Yeah exclusive lanes are the way forth. Need proof? Then just look at the Tram networks in Berlin, Stockholm, Lyon and Nice just to name a few.

    Even now, with John Tory as mayor, Toronto lags far behind many other major cities in the world. Tory is still in the dark ages with his love of cars. There will be increasing gridlock in TO in spite of new streetcars that compete on the same limited roads as cars. Bike paths and much improved public transit is imperative going into the future. Toronto needs a clean sweep of city council with representatives that are truly able to think beyond political expediency into the future and who won't compromise the lives of the citizens they are supposed to represent to their own precious short term careers.

    Good for Toronto. This is some cutting edge technology that any city would be proud to have in 1948.

    if the streetcars are so long now, wouldn't that mean longer waits for them turning?

    • @HesJustSteven
      @HesJustSteven 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, thats a downturn there especially if it's a short block and the next light is red on the next intersection of the turn and the street is congested

      Glad I live in Biggar, SK. There is not a streetcar around for 97 km, 600 for a working one! (Saskatoon and Edmonton, excluding ones on farms)

      What happens on streets line Queen and King, where private cars share the trackspace? During the rush hour, the streetcar is going to have to wait at an intersection until there's plenty of available trackspace ahead before starting into the intersection, otherwise...major traffic jams (as if there aren't enough already).

      +Jimbo Bogie The Scarborough subway should be extended from Kennedy and Eglinton along McCowan Road to McCowan and Sheppard (consisting of 3 or 4 stops) - The McCowan subway could later be extended north one stop at a time towards McCowan and Steeles, the Town of Markham, and Markville Shopping Centre as the demand and population density requires it - Visit my blog at TorontoTransitBlog@blogspot.com for more information, comments, and concerns, regarding traffic and transit in Toronto

    Don't forget Scarborough, the second largest and second most populous section of Toronto, we only have the crappy SRT, we need an extension of the Bloor Danforth line to STC, the SRT is horrible

      Gsauce 420 lol the underground eglinton line comes above ground right before it hits scarbrough. The city wont develop scarbrough. Its considered the low income area of the gta.
      Trust me if a real subway was built through scarbrough rent would shoot through the roof.

      you can have subways, i for one would love one all the way down to the zoo. but it costs money, we need taxes or tolls to fund it, not fictional Public private financing, or the risky tax increment financing.

    • @MineTranzProductions
      @MineTranzProductions 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Its expensive, but more efficient then an LRT

    • @WalkingAccountant
      @WalkingAccountant 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MineTranzProductions of course it is, but do you want an increase in taxes or tolls to pay for it? The province has already allocated a portion of the budget to go to LRT lines on finch Sheppard and eglinton. Why would anyone want to pay double to cancel these lines and for subways instead. Believe I love subways, who doesn't. But if we really want them we gotta be prepared to bear the brunt of the cost. Can't expect it to be handed for free. The province and federal govt aren't gonna fund expensive subways because the rest of the population who dont live in Toronto will freak. Not to mention we need transit quickly and LRTs can be built faster.

      LRTs can cause commuter Frustration of how much delays there can be on the surface, and how a simple snow storms can shut off all of surface LRT routes. It is also annoying where there's Traffic lights at mostly every block. Most Commuters want a fast TTC System And street cars are mostly better for these routes. Also They are right now Building the Downsview Extension line, but you do have a good point.

    not worth the money, they may be long but not spacious and probably carry fewer people then the ACLV cars on queen street. They will nit last 10 years the older ones have lasted 30. the low profile will cause them to derail more frequently, rust sooner and be stalled in snow. not to mention traffic hazards when turning. Much of the body is taken up by articulation joints. They just look big. cancel then order off the shelf Kinki Sharyo units that boston has. or kawasakis that Phildadephia has.

      Dude have you looked at a city, just a random city in Western Europe and looked at their city landscape? Well because Streetcars have been favorited by everyone over here! They have been the prefered choice of transport for millions even beating out cars. The key to this is to implement them right and it seems like a lot of American cities don't know how to. Mainly give them their own lanes and give them first priority in crossings so that way they can get to their destination easier. They're also cheap to construct and easy to find in comparison to finding a subway station. Look at cities like Nice, Lyon, Berlin, Aarhus, Stockholm and more to get an idea of what I'm talking about.

  • @stevemclean9411
    @stevemclean9411 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    they are not bigger terms of capacity, narrow very few seats for the space they take up on the street. Slow on the street, prone to derail, rebuild the current fleet, put the couplers back on and run trains as originally intended. takes to long to pay the fare, I hate them already. When the get jammed up as they will, you'll be waiting a very long time for a car.

      Dude just look at an European Light rail network like the ones in Lyon, Nice, Berlin or Stockholm and tell me if they look like good sources of public transport.
