I lived in Cork, Ireland for one year. I fell in love with this beautiful country as well as the people and the irish accent. I love Mary Blacks singing too.
how long ago was this ?? as Ireland has changed not for the better, my homeland isn't like that I remember growing up in county Kerry, our corrupt politicians are selling our heritage to the highest bidders whilst allowing in people who won't ever respect my beautiful country either
We love Mary Black in Ireland. She is one of our best exports. We have seen her live many times over the years. My children all love her and grew up seeing her.Now I share her with my grandchildren. You are welcome to Ireland anytime.☘️
Who are the 21 people who gave this a thumbs down? One of the most beautiful voices on the planet - Mary Black. What’s not to like? Beautiful song and accompaniment by Declan.
My Irish wife introduced me to Mary Black music in 1992 when we bought A woman’s Heart album. I was blown away by her and the other Irish women singers.
Mary is such a joy to have in the world today, when beautiful music such as her's, is so very hard to find. I'm from Alabama, USA and I want to thank you Mary for sharing your wonderful talent with all of us who seek real music.
Absolutely love Mary black songs remind me of my brother Raymond may he rest peacefully he used to listen to her all the time that's how I got to know of her songs through my bro miss you everyday ❤️❤️❤️🍀🍀🍀🍀
Today was my first time wearing her and I'm 38 but I've been told my birthday is wrong, and I've been told I was adopted to,but besides the point. She has a beautiful voice, I could listen to her all day. Thank you for your music I'm a new fan
Amazing. First heard this song as I was sitting in a pub in Westport after climbing Croagh Patrick. I asked my cousin who was singing: Mary Black. I was hooked.
i discovered Mary Black's songs when i was rummaging old video cassette discs six years ago. practically its out of curiosity.since then, i am incorrigibly hooked to her repertoire, and of course to her voice.
Used to think the same when my late brother to play her songs all the time rip bro now I listen to her and my 14 yr old says I only know this coz of u mum lol we live n learn greatful to have the pleasure of listening to Mary black legend ♥️💚💗💙🤎💜🖤💙💖💚♥️🖤🤎💜
We saw Mary Black in Ireland in 1998 and loved her voice and got all her songs and that was the night she had Tommy fleming there singing 3 songs before her..love them both..
ahhh just amazing as always theryl never be another mary black incredible!|!i love this song it always makes me cry :(!!! i cant wait to go see mary in concert in kilkenny :D itl be amazing!!! gowan mary ya legend ;)xX
7 years later, I’ll try: “Katie” is the singer of the song. Katie is feeling sentimental and returns to her childhood home and her old room (maybe just in her mind) and sings to younger self about the compelling images of childhood, and how even though she grew up and left, she will always come running home to the beauty of her memories of time and place.
Loved Mary Black all through the 90s. But it must be said that since she and Declan Sinnott separated - both as co-musicians and he as her producer - her stuff basically became CRAP. Sorry girl: but the truth sometimes hurts! Your sound has never been the same since. "Circus" was the farce at which point I jumped off. Still play all your earlier albums with Declan; but haven't bought anything thereafter.
+Gillian Emslie Is it just me..but Mary's voice has deteriorated very much since this recording....Saw her on T.V. a few months ago and her vocals sounded really bad....wondering what is the problem...
Have been a long-time fan of Mary Black and will be always. The voice is still beautiful and no one interprets a song like she does. To say that her efforts have been "crap" since the 90s is to dismiss many fine recordings, including the critically acclaimed Stories from the Steeple. She is also a very warm, kind person I had the privilege to meet 2 years ago. Very unassuming and caring individual. Can't say that about too many in the entertainment industry.
No Stuckrevolver - although I'm sorry I only just found this after two months. But indeed I (and like the true hardcore 70's feminist I have now been for decades) would feel and know this at least as well as anyone, believe me... So I don't think this is disrespectful, at all. In fact I suppose it might even be an abbreviation of "girlfriend", or a similar alternative to "fella", were the roles reversed? I also sometimes refer to my female friends and/or animals, as "Girlie". And it is absolutely no mark of disrespect, believe me. In fact it is a mark of deep affection, and they always accept it that way. So perhaps it is an albeit less gender-neutral expression of "darling" but really, that's about it. Thus no discrimination, weirdness, sexism, whatever - although yes: I fully admit, when one comes from the same sex, race, whatever? Various epithets may come more easily from one's "fellows", than they do from "outside".
One of Irelands finest. God bless and keep singing ❤

She's just amazing! You were the soundtrack of my happy childhood Mary. Never give up singing! Much love from David, Longford, Eire.
Whatever she sings, I always feel a sense of longing. Of nostalgia. Love her.

For a little island on the edge of the Atlantic ocean we have some great music and the best band on the planet u2
@oct201981 I disagree, I'd actually say she sounds better now. Her performance of Marguerite and the gambler is breathtaking.
I'd love to know what this song is about. ? anyone know? It would be a good theme
song for a Harry Potter movie ...just love the song.

Does anyone know who is playing the clarinet for this song 'Katie' please?
I believe that is Carl Geraghty.

Hahahaha....this was 21 years ago, so yeah, her voice might have changed...
Isn't it disrespectful to call Mary Black "girl".
havfrruen72, could you not laugh at them please, its not nice.
