In all my 72 years on this little blue dot we inhabit. I can honestly say no sound has ever captured my attention like the pipes of this beautiful young lady. The most wonderful gift I could ever have asked for and just happened to find it on you tube of all places. God bless you and thank you Mary Black. You are a gift from God, and you have a gift from Him.
I am on your list too, Thomas. I am 76 and I have never heard a voice quite so wonderful. I cannot tell you what it does to my soul when she sings, but it is strong enough that I have asked my Lord to allow me to visit Ireland some day, as it must be a wonderful place to produce such a marvelous voice. I suspect that I will not get to visit in this life, but surely in the next when I am home with my dear Savior. Then I will surely visit Ireland.
Greetings from a 69 yr old fart from over in South Africa, and yes she is a treasure, beautiful, another son that stirs my soul is Luka Bloom, give his live version of "the Man Is Alive" a listen, its on TH-cam, always dilutes my pint, as it brings me to tears when i listen to it
My family comes from Ireland, on both sides. Went through the horrors of the civil war in Ireland: North against South, Protestant against Catholic. Heard this song on Oregon Public Radio more than 30 years ago, and it brought home the reality of my beautiful homeland. I've followed Mary Black ever since. This song brings me back to the beauty of my people and my land. And, forever, she will be the iconic voice of Ireland and of peace.
what relaity has it given you ?? unless you lived on our island at the time of the troubles, then you have no clue about what we went through, keep your sanctimonious crap to yourself, you are an american who at best has a bit of irish ancestery nothing more, just like biden reagan, osama bin obama plastic fake irish
Makes me cry every time. Mary Black is incredible and a huge Irish talent for many years! I never tire of listening to this song. thank you Mary. You have admiriers the world over!
The words in this song are so evocative never ceases to bring on the tears, Mary sings it magnificently with the emotion required, shall always love Ireland .
I live in the USA, but am of Irish heritage. This song, and particularly Mary Black's rendition, touch the very depths of my soul. In a word, beautiful.
I first heard Mary Black sing this ballad on the radio, I think on Thistle and Shamrock, on St. Patrick's Day in 1984. It was a live recording of a concert with DeDanaan in Charleston, S.C. The singing was so heartfelt and pure. At the end of the song, there was perhaps 7 or 8 seconds of silence before a sustained applause. Much thanks for posting,
I am of Irish descent and proud of it. It moves me every time I hear this song. This is one of the most beautiful songs I know and Mary Black totally rocks it. Two thumbs up and saved to playlist. Erin go bragh. ~ Bel
I bought my first Mary Black CD because of "the Dimming of the Day" Since I became a FAN, I have everything she has done, seen her 18 times, instrumental in getting her to Portsmouth, Va. (where she performed in front of 1700) went on an Irish Cruise to see her and many great Irish artist. You might say she has won me over. LOVE HER.
have been to ireland 1992. Never got the chance to come back again. But when I hear Mary I know Im need to visit ireland again. I love this country so much. It really burns inside, hearing Mary, and not beeing in Ireloand.
Heard Mary Black sing Song for Ireland with De Danann at College of St. Thomas many years ago. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. A truck driver standing near me in the balcony was balling like a baby. Simply angelic!
The first time I heard Stan Rogers, I was bought to tears....Mary Black did the same. What power to draw out so much emotion from their audience. Ireland must be so proud of this jewel.
What's to say? This is an angelic voice. I am a huge fan of famous females voices, such as Joan Baez, Sarah Brightman, Barbara Streisand, and a host of other fabulous female voices. In my opinion, none can match Mary. This is musical perfection.
Mary Black is great, no doubt, but you might want to listen to a great American female voice, that of Miss Judy Collins. Try listening to the song, "Who Knows Where the Time Goes," then see how you feel about great female voices...
A day never to forget.... despite all the setbacks that have befallen this emerald isle every word of this beautiful song catches the essence of how the Island its people and cultures will never fade
I live in Ireland for 7 years and I also recently got my citizenship which I gladly say “I am proud to be Irish” my heart is where it belong 🇮🇪💚☘️. Home is not always where you were borne it’s where your heart beats🍀🍀🍀🍀
We all make mistakes. But music and the world we live in is beautiful and shared by all. This song was written by an English visitor that was inspired. Great stuff and a very beautiful song.

I'm from Brazil, and used to rise in a rural place, because my mother's family farm, and, despite of the fact that it's in Brazil, this song always makes me remember that time, the people, the nature in your pure form, without eletricity, walking to visit the neighbors, about a mile away. I was very happy im my childhood, so, this song makes me travel to a world that will never come back. Great song, great interpretation.
Vou te responder em português msm conterrâneo. Lindo relato meu camarada...lendo seu relato me fez viajar pro meu passado cheio dessas lembranças tb, e me emocionar aqui ouvindo essa música . Forte abraço pra ti!
@@juniormattos2001 That's it, my friend. I wrote that 5 years ago, and now, i'm a father myself, of a handsome 3 years old boy, named Artyom, who loves to stay in those same place that my mother raised me. Of course i can't raise my son the same way, because my life/work don't permit, but every moment that we can, we go, and he loves that place. I some place, my mother smiles. bliss!
It does not get any better than this.... well at least in the music department... discovered Mary's voice on a trip to Galway in the mid 90's I was shopping in a record store looking for old records of Kathleen Largey. I was fortunate to have her seen in Concert twice I still the shirt "Mary Black in America"
They say this epic song was composed by an English man and my hat is off to him. However NOBODY can sing it like Mary Black. She just has that voice that has no comparison with these lines. Everytime I listen to it, I am in Ireland which I think the composer had in mind eventhough he was far away. I live thousands of miles from Ireland. 🇺🇸
Dreaming in the night, I saw a land where no man had to fight Waking in your dawn, I saw you crying in the morning light Lying where the Falcons fly, they twist and turn all in you e'er blue sky Living on your western shore, saw summer sunsets asked for more I stood by your Atlantic sea and I sang a song for Ireland... In our memories, will remain two voices for this hymn: Luke and Mary ! This song moves me to tears so many times. The Irish -along with the Chinese, the Italians and so many others- helped build my country. God bless the Emerald Isle. God bless the good people of Ireland, both North and South!

I first heard MAry Black on the tape that little folk clubs play before a concert--at the Pursuit of Happiness in L:iberty New York. Bill Morrissey was the artist that night and all I could think about was the song by a woman that i had just heard minutes ago. It bugged me so much that I asked the owner of the club who it was and he dutifully went through the tape and I learned that the artist was MAry Black, and the song I heard that night was called ANACHIE GORDON, from her first album. The search was on after that and the the internet came along just in time and here I am with as much MAry Black music as I can handle!
Maybe boasting but Ireland always produces great singers and musicians. Keep crying with joy.
I am not Irish, but their music speaks to me. This song by Mary Black is beyond words. I am mesermized by her singing of this song
I have been listening to her all my life and it is still mesmerising.

I have used the same word ["angelic"] to describe Mary's voice, as I expect the angels to sing with just such majesty as she.
She puts the Emerald in the Emerald Isle. A true Irish Gem!
It moves me every time and takes me to The West Coast. Pure emotion. Tears from Down Under.
My God such a beautiful song, voice, and Woman...
