Every once in a while comes a rare genius of a classic film, that you hear people excitedly talk about across the globe, it happened with Benhur and Lawrence of Arabia, it happened with Raiders of the Lost Ark and Braveheart, Sound of Music and Roman Holiday, Out of Africa and Scent of a Woman, Gandhi and Rocky, and it happened with The Untouchables and Last of the Mohicans!
It's incredible how the author places a novel in the main scene and leaves in the background all the tragedy that befell indigenous peoples while European nations imposed their will on the exploitation of American riches
Despite the exploration of the miseries of colonization, the beautiful contrast of the romance between the main characters, richly played by Daniel Day Lewis and Madelaine Stowe, made it a beautiful love story, an epic production that was no less than Gone with the Wind, or Dr. Zhivago.

Kudos to Mike Star! Excellent homage to the film and its music. OF NOTE and hopefully Mr. Star can acknowledge that this film is based on a screenplay originally written back in the 1930's and while loosely based on the Leatherstocking tale, it is NOT true to the original novel! 😮 The story written by James Fenimore Cooper was and remains an adventurous journey to be sure. Yet the underlying theme of the novel was RACISM not ROMANCE. The love story in the movie was contrived by screenwriters back in 1930's and polished for Daniel Day Lewis and friends. Maybe one day some filmmakers will retell this novel true to form as a movie. That would truly be powerful ... 😇😎👍😲
