Jared, I have one comment, it’s constructive, but it’s not criticism! I think that you are genius without realising it! The fact that you blade didn’t touch the cutting board on many cuts actually eliminates dulling the edge on wood, making it a much more accurate test. If you’re interested in the opinion of a geezer that has been testing military equipment for a living for the past 12 years, yours is a better test.Well done!
that is a great point thank you, i need to figure out how to doit without taking away the feet it can add up to, i know i can pick it up and just let the blade follow though with the card board off of the surface, the problem is that its difficult for me to get small straight cuts over and over i wind up using way more cardboard because i cant do as many cuts with one piece that way.
@@NeevesKnives what if you placed a strip of foam exactly 1 inch wide, that would stop the blade before your knuckles hit the board? Just an idea this way for each cut you losing one inch which you can add up in the end and subtract the exact number of inches or feet.
@@NeevesKnivesYou could just use 13" cardboard and don't cut all the way through then clean up would also be easier as well.
With my cardboard cut tests, I cut the cardboard 15 inches, I make a 90 degree fold at 12 inches. I cut until the fold hits/stops the belly of the knife so the cuts stay together and I can count them along with the 1.5 inch cutting edge section that's being tested never touches anything except the cut. Works great, each cuts 1 foot so it's quick to count and the part of the cutting edge that's being tested never touches anything except the cut.
@EDCandLace that's so funny you said that because I was thinking I could try and find something over 12 make a line then cut to line, however I would hate to mark 300 pieces
I really like this idea of a showdown between budget and premium knife models. Keep em coming!
As someone who can't see or handle a knife before buying (ahem..) I rely a whole lot on reviewers like yourself to make informed decisions when buying knives. As you know its an expensive hobby (literally double as expensive where I am!) This type of video is so massively helpful man. Thank you, genuinely. Love the channel, keep it up
Jared - Hands down, the best video you’ve made. I’ve watched for a year or so.
I judge TH-cam expertise based on you. You know your shit and you’re all in. Thanks man.
This is how you film a knife review. Alot of ppl do good ergo reviews and cut tests, but the abuse + sharpening is clutch 👌
I watch all your videos, and this was probably my favorite one. You’re the best when it comes to knife gurus keep doing your thing brother
thank you
Love this format: same size, similar shape, overall check, edge retention.
Please go ahead on that, good job.
I want to see one with the stropping added in. A with the strop and without edge retention test.
That would be cool.
Great video. I like the longer more detailed format too. Good work J, thanks! 👍
Nicely done Jared, enjoying all the useful data you were able to pull out of this reviewing/testing format. Looking forward to more of these📈
What an epic undertaking to do this. Kudos to hard work and top notch content!!
Love the microscope and standardized cut tests, some real broscience going on here 🤙
*_Supreme content right here! Great stuff Jerad!_*
This was really cool. I look forward to more of the series.
Man you are the only one reviewing or comparing these two knives I have both love the we version my wife uses the civivi version I got the all silver version sweet knife and thanks for doing this for the community.
Excellent video Jared! Very, very informative. Love my Cubit and all of my Civivi and WE knives
I've been waiting for a head-to-head like this for a long time. Great work, Jared!
This was a very interesting video. Thanks for making it and putting in the work. Very compelled to see more. This is the only knife channel that actually brings value to people. All others are wishing.
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC content, bro!!!!! Banger testing!
Awesome video! Really thoughtful. Really liked the scuff test.
Definitely looking forward to more of these types of comparisons, keep putting in that work! Great video!
I agree. Great idea and a breath of fresh air
Great review Brother!! Love blank VS blank videos, and this one was awesome!!
Love these comparison tests! Please continue to do them. I have the Qubit and love it and was wondering if I should buy the WE version. Well, this video was exactly what I needed!
Super cool test man! Great work!! 👍💪
Very nice video, looking forward to the next.
This was fantastic, in depth video. It really nicely shows the differences between the price ranges!
This is such a dope video! 🔥
Dude. These videos are 🔥. Putting in dat work son! Love it. More.. more.. more!
Shooting dice with pocket knives 😂
This is an excellent idea for you to start doing this sort of thing Jerad. I know you said you had some good ideas on the way but this one is really a cracking idea on your part. This is definitely going to be a hit with everyone who is following you and it should make a lot more people start also following you and the channel well done my man excellent stuff. As always hopefully you stay safe and healthy J&K have a beautiful week both 🫵🏻😘👍🏼
Great video and test. Really good comparison of what you get for your money. The Qubit is more in my price range. Thanks and new subscriber. You rocked it.
Bang up job on this. Awesome.
Appreciate this video. I held off on the Civivi cuz I hated that bottle opener. I think I'll be getting the WE. Looking forward to more of these comparison videos. Thanks man! 👍✌️
Thank you very much for the video! ❤ 14c28n steel is great value as it seems!
This is a phenomenal video, dude. You are a scientist.
Great tests, thanks!😊
That was a great video, probly the best knife review I’ve ever seen 👍👍
That WE one looks pretty great. I like the removed bottle opener, i have something way less expensive on my keychain already.
Thanks for the breakdown and killer b-roll and running the specs on screen. Looks like a solid pickup.
Looking forward to more of this series👍🏻👍🏻
Nice. I really like the new content.
Just got my Civivi Qubit. Unless I win a lottery I don't foresee ever getting the WE version. I love the one I have and it's great to have someone else do the testing!
Great vid comparing the two knives and a fun new style of doing them comparing not only the edge testing but other factors as well. Both are solid knives at their price points for whatever your budget is. The We is definatly better overall in your testing and the price increase really reflects the overall performance you get in this case. Thanks for the great vid and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
This was a fantastic video!!!
This dude is by far the most informative and knowledgeable knife reviewer or professional. I wish I had half his ability to sharpen a knife and half his know how.
I love this idea can’t wait for more
Great testing format man, really enjoyable video. I bet if you followed up with some 1um after the 9 you'd have seen an even larger spike in recovered sharpness. I hope to see more of this style, I know it's a lot of work but it's great entertainment
Great vid Partna. My Cubit has been stellar. It gets a lot of good comments. I sent a Bud to Neeves to get one thru your link. I don’t have that We…but it’s cool. I cried with I saw ya sliding those scales on concrete. That is a sacrifice fer sure. Cheers
Helpful comparisons, especially the effects of a bunch of cutting.
This was a great video you should do some more like this!
Loved the durability test!
Agree.
That was an absolute pleasure to watch. That was a great video and looking forward to more knife comparisons. Don't beat yourself up about not going through the cardboard all the way. You used the same technique on both knives, I don't see a problem.
Jared you are a rockstar . Don't always comment on your videos. But man this was the most informative thing I have watched on knives for a long time . To see it side by side like that and you explaining it as you go .
Have always been curious about the wear resistance difference of titanium and aluminium . I mean I knew aluminium was softer. But just how much .
Thank you so much .
I've often noticed an unsharpened section on the back of the edge like you showed on these knives. Very frustrating. I'm glad to hear what causes it.
These Civivi scales look awesome now, love the relic vibes, gonna throw my knives over concrete more now, thanks!
Oy boy! This is gonna be good! Great idea!
Yup, fantastic, thanks Jered! The scratch test did hurt my soul tho 😅
mine to
Awesome video.
Gotta love 14c28n being elite as far as balance of properties, very affordable, almost impossible to mess up heat treat, etc. So tough it handles lower edge angles with a thin blade if wanting edge retention. Plus we can always strop/touch up now and then, but you can't add toughness and corrosion resistance.
Nice idea and gr8 job.
Great vid, commenting to help out with the algorithm
I love my Civivi Qubit! I use it daily from prepping my food to cutting boxes open. love the 14c28n steel. Holds an edge a long time and really easy to strop on my jeans! Weight is great, hardly even know I have it on me. I find myself touching my pocket to see if its there! Great package for me. If i lost it id would go right out and buy another one!
Awesome video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Quality video, Brother. The music is not my cup of tea. But everything is phenomenal.
fun stuff. thanks for sharing .
Great video!!!
Awesome video
Great comparison! I’d go with Civivi for the price. Thank you
Love that sharpener
I had no idea how much effort you put into your tests, until I heard your _spirited discussion_ with your partner on the livestream about cardboard! 😅
Loved the vid; I don't own or intend to buy these knives, but I watched it just for your personality. 😁👍
thank you
Hell ya man!! Love this video, thank you. Seems like a lot of thought and work went into this, much appreciated. Looking forward to more content like this, thanks again bro
Thanks bro great video appreciate all the work you put into your videos 🙏🏼 💯
Enjoyed it very much -- nice testing! Personally, I think that the BESS tester is a better measure of performance than the paper cut test, which can be highly subjective. But it is more time consuming and expensive, and I know these tests aren't cheap or quick!
Now rhat is review. Take that Nick, Nick and Lee. All great reviewers.
Hey speaking of nicks does the Slyse Bluie v2.0 get a pre release review?
i dont have that one, however i do have the original
Great job 👍
Great video. Stroppy stuff is the best! Let it dry after applying though.
Love the showdown. One consideration for you: it would be interesting to see an edge comparison under the microscope at the same number of cuts before stropping (I.e. at 309 cuts for both) then at completion of 662 cuts on the we. Then we can see how the edge compares under similar use, and how they look when they need to be sharpened.
Looked like you were rolling dice with knives! Also, your best video.
thank you
Great video
Great video! Would have liked to see sharpness test after sharpening but you already pointed that out
yeah i wish i woulda done that, i felt like a fool after the test when i looked over to the side and the Bess tester was sitting there lol
Thanks for the vid. I appreciate all the effort behind it. You might consider taping off the edge to confine the cutting to a specific area of edge. Also, I don't understand why you didn't just sharpen more at the heel until it was apexed?
the reason is because i dont think its always a good idea to remove steel from 98 percent of the edge in order to hit 2 percent, that takes years off the life of your edge for something that wont matter, it will eventually get sharpened but i want it to come out through multiple sharpenings rather than do 4 sharpenings in 1, i do usually tape off, however the tape becomes an issue and this is already a short blade so its really easy to stay in the cutting area since i was doing choked up cuts. with tape it can become a mess on a small knife as it creates friction and starts wearing off etc. i do appreciate the feedback so thank you
Showing my age the Siskel and Ebert in me gives two thumbs up on your testing!
Yo Jared what's up with the jacket you were sporting while making your neighbors judge you in the driveway lol? I am digging it bro!!
Dang, that intro hurt me. Glad you're willing to do this!
Great video as always! What brand is that takedown mat? I need one.
skyraider knives
The WE is definitely worth the extra money. It's just a much more well done knife all around. Save up and go with premium when it comes to this one.
Great job Jared, very good comparison. Awesome video. I would like to see more comparison like this. Even worst steel, "behind the edge" is a key TC👍
Very nice test. Realistically I can only afford the Civivi.
Best knife comparison I have ever seen! The thickness behind the edge data is overlooked a lot of times. 1 thing I think you didn't mention is that Civivi states an hrc of 57-59. I won't buy a knife in 20cv/m390. Dr Larrin Thomas states it is a poorly designed steel then explains why in a way that I understand. His body of work has taught me most of what I know about blade steels. And he designed magnacut. So if they want my premium(stainless)knife dollar the knife will be in magnacut not 20cv. The Civivi is on the menu though, me second favorite budget steel right behind aebl.
yeah the only issue is that they are having a hard time getting the magnacut atm, in the future im sure they will be using it
Have you ever tried kangaroo leather strops? I have found kangaroo leather to have less elasticity while being thinner than cow leather. Both of which benefits stropping. Thank you for all your hard work and excellent content!
BUT JARED, you didn't shoot them with a gun at the end to show how well they can handle a bullet! Great video as always, super informative. loved everything about it, can't wait for the next deep dive.
Cut test for the win! Yeah buddy, light weight baby! 👊😎
Nice thumbnail work here
Yeah, cool knives and good video! But IRON RANGERS are bad to the bone, in the best possible way!!! Keep keepin us informed!!! TY!!!
Nice video and well done. And still it hurts seeing knives abused. Not surprising that the premium model performs better, but the impression changes if you put the price into the equation. And everybody needs to ask himself if he really needs the premium performance. ;)
I like to buy a knife then while waiting on delivery, I'll look at reviews. Can't wait for my premium Qubit
Fantastic video. I'd love to see a comparison that includes the Blade HQ exclusive S35VN version of the Qubit.
i didnt know they had one
@@NeevesKnives It released out of nowhere in the middle of December. I got it as a Christmas gift for myself and I've been carrying it since then. You weren't kidding about how slicey this blade geometry is. I'm biased because I'm a sucker for purple, but this Qubit is my favorite knife of 2023 and that's coming from someone who has two different WE Ziffius knives.
I have the s30vn version from BladeHQ which is like budget plus.
I think your testing was well done, I like the fact that you didn't blow through the cardboard and bury the blade into the wooden cutting board. Something that you might want to add is a drop test from about 30 feet onto concrete as this has happened to me while working on a roof 2 stories up many years ago. Still don't like the Civivi Qubit, might have to look into that WE version though. Thanks
ive also done that dropping knives off of roof tops it might just have to make the test
Dude, that knocking around 8:42 almost gave me a panic attack lol. Have the headphone on full blast 😮
Jared, well done brother! My take on your test results is that the Civivi at 1/3 the price delivered 1/2 the performance of the We. I love the Qubit but I'm not ready to pick up the We version at $200. The geometry, edge retention, price and strop response of the Civivi is truly impressive at $65. I'll wait for the We version to drop in price before I get one. Since the big Banter recently dropped to $150 I think the Qubit will eventually be available for $130 - $150. At this point in my collecting I'm more aware of the FOMO and how much you can save by waiting for Christmas sales and discontinued clearance sales. We've all paid full price, just to see it weeks or months later for half the price. Both are great but I'm sticking with my Civivi Qubit's for now.
Plus the bottle opener!
I got the qubit in Damascus because I liked the green scales. Too bad they don't make a similar elementum.
Well that was extremely thorough. Other ones could be the typheous, miguron Keryx, and kansept nesstreets? Back in my day, you could call Walmart at night and they would save a shopping cart of broken diwn cardboard for you. Then it's free
I love the Nesstreet!
