Pro tip. Always remove the perimeter of grout around tile you want to remove as this will stop other tiles becoming loose or drummy that are connected to the fixed tiles surrounding
Yep! Also makes the surounding tile less prone to chipping out. I've had chips come off of surrounding tiles because of pressure from the grout line. Never even hit the tile, just see a chip come flying off, and then I'm replacing that, too. Removing grout helps with that.
Some guys can sleep like a baby knowing their workmanship is sub standard and others like this tradesman can't unless it's done professionally. Awesome work bro, love your attitude
My sister thought she was buying a decent newer house. Yeah it was only a few years old and the second i walked in i was like "oh no" over the years it turned out to be much worse than i thought. Its got a hill right behind it, no drained at all. Last years huge storm water ran right over the foindation straight to the panel box. Luckily caught it in time.
It also depends on the market in your area. Sub standard is the standard in central Florida because the market is flooded with greedy house flippers and slum lords. They don't care about quality, just quantity.
The more you post the more I can see you're a solid dude and you work hard to do things the right way. Most importantly it seems like you listen and take advice well. You're going far and there just aren't enough contractors with your character. Thanks for sharing!
Honestly I think it’s just apart of the job, like how many times have you had a perfect job where the customer didn’t say one little thing, it happpens all the time, I don’t own or run any companies but I’ve worked in the trade for a long time now and I’ve come to see it’s more or less just apart of the job. But I get what you’re saying for sure man, there’s plenty of big headed tradesmen that cant accept the fact that not everything is going to be perfect.
Am here I jamaica and am telling u if a guy get just one wrong it stays no matter what but ur thinking true perfection thats like great effort I must say but alot of people I no leave it as it is
NICE. Not many show how to do this, along with detailed grout vids (especially around drains & using something like jolly “caps” &/or transition strips etc); so, very nice to see a vid like this. Cheers✌🏻
I’m sending this to my contractor who did a bathroom for me and cracked a tile during a niche design and still grouted over the cracked tile that is clearly visible. It’s the little things and detailed work that gets more jobs
Before anyone tries this please cut your grout lines and cover your corner shelf. Cracks go through grout into the next tile and it only takes one piece of tile falling onto your shelf to break it then you're replacing a lot more tile
I'm not a tile guy..but I know to first cut out grout lines with a dremel , or a hand drill with cut off disk...beating it with a hammer if your looking to replace more than just one..and protect other tiles with duct ,or blue tape.
Another piece of advice. Remove filling around it first if you've already had it placed it there. Then it is less likely to spread tension to other tiles when using hammer with screwdriver as in shown case.
I like how u did that. Ive seen so many just hit the center with a hammer. Then a big mess. I drill a little relief hole. Then u dont mess up the surrounding tiles.
As a contractor, a tradesman who takes pride in their work is whom is worthy of doing the job. Don’t always go with the lowest estimate. Go with the person/company whom loves what they do, fixes their mistakes and stands proud behind their work.
Nice work, I appreciate a perfectionist. I did a similar subway tile job and I didn’t notice I had a similar looking tile til I was looking at photos later. Mentioned it to the client and she couldn’t see it, she told me not to worry 🤪 I still think of it every time I see the photo
Oof, i annoy myself at looking for flaws in my house. I hate that i do that. If something like that was mentioned to me i don’t know if id ever be able to stop thinking about it or looking for it until i found it 🤦♀️
I prefer to Heat up the Tile with a heat gun. There are also Special Tools for it to heat them up. It needs a bit of practice, because sometimes the Tile can Break due to the Heat difference. But with a Bit of practice, this is an easy way to Remove Tiles WITHOUT any damage to the Tile Good way, when you dont have spare tiles
I have 14 years of experience in construction both residential and commercial..ive dealt with and came across a ton of different contractors in my time doing what I do...I honestly don't think a single one of them would've taken the time to do that. Its so refreshing to see someone that cares about their work
The tile material may be different on other countries or even companies so breaking like this might not work well. But first of all, the shelf was ok like this , why would you push it to wall, the water dropped on shelf might go more easily now in the wall. So i believe its wrong to try to "fix" this "problem".
This is impressive, “messed” not that noticeable and he still fixed it, I have never seen that quality work is Miami, there probably is, but in all the post construction cleanings I have yet to see one
That's how it should be. I had a customer I said I would be there between 10 & 10:30. I get there at 10:20 and she said I have a problem with your punctuality. Lol I said no problem I was wondering how I was going to get my last job today done. Her problem was she thinks I was going to start charging her at 10. When in reality I give most customers an hr. On a half day job and 2 on a full day. Her loss. That was 3 weeks ago she's still looking for someone to put smart locks on her doors and paint them. I know I'm not gonna do them ever! I spend hours after work trying to find my customers the best way to do whatever I do mostly electrical but there isn't any part of a house I can't do. I try not to do concrete and if possible paint.
Fantastic work man. Good business strategy as well. Where do you get those horseshoe spacers? And whats your favorite leveling clip system. Ive been using qep and they shift the tile too much when using the leveling wedges.
Seems there is no waterproofing. Won't water on the glass shelf seep through to the back of the tile ? Isn't the glass suppose to sit on top of the tile and not in contact with the backer board..... just wondering 😮
I wanted to know what tile adhesive you used. Seems good. I have floor tile issues that many lose its adhesion and bulge up. I need to repair and i need only a thin adhesive but high strength if possible.
Just curious, is it bad to have tiles like that? I noticed my tiles in the bathroom like this and was wondering if I should have the contractors redo it
He’s good, but a good tradesman would have fixed it early on so he would not have to go back and fix it. He left it in hoping the owner wouldn’t notice. The guy I used to work for made me do that bullshit. You can’t rush tile.
The trick is when doing tiles take a step back and look at the work. Now you see there are bigger grout line at the bottom and top and some comment said the grout will hide it No it will expose it more
Ok im gonna give you a compliment and tile guys don't do this. Ever. You float, set, and grout, all your stuff. Floating is unheard of in Oklahoma they set right to hardybacker its hack work at best. Your works quality I'd hire you. Signed the old field manager for Traviso tile and stone. IN Lodi Ca

We would always fix the little problem but if they made a big deal about it then they do not get a discount. Most people are c weasels and will push for every interaction in their favor.
What is that "waterproofing" you are using? What shower system is behind those tiles? Did you just put thinset in without using a grooving tool? That shelf is not supported?
I'm so glad he fixed that If it was in a random spot in the corner or way up high I personally wouldn't give a damn but since the tray is there that's clearly a spot everyone that uses it will notice
You knew it wasn't right when you laid that tile and confirmed it when you laid those above it . Why didn't you replace it whilst the adhesive was still wet ? That glass shelf is always going to be a potential for water ingress into the substrate , so get it right first time .
Whenever I have to do this I treat it like I’m working on an ingrown hair on my nethers. Very slow deliberate planned motions and always protecting nearby delicate areas😂
The key is to get proper tools. No disrespect looks like good work man but get a diamond bit set. The president with trying to chisel pieces of tile off the wall (with a screwdriver ) is that you can loosen/separate other tiles and not even know it

Seems like you're uneducated in construction. This is not the proper way to demo or install tile he didn't even use a notch trowel

Id advise him to taķe the glass shelf off first 😂😂

Drilling several spots with a masonry bit to start. Then chisel it out. Drilling prevents chipping adjacent tile

May want to grind out grout first and grind a stress relief crack. Some times hammer will still crack other tiles
Unbelievable this is not even mentioned in the video

The correct way is to remove the grout from around the rejected tile to prevent the rest from cracking when removing the tile good vid tho 👍

Isolate the tile fully so any cracks don't spread through a grouting joints.
