    Thank you very very much for tips. For live performances I use hybrid setup with Digitakt 1 and I use the Overbridge. For last year the OB is pretty stable and never crashes.

      No worries! I’m still waiting for OB for DT2 and then I’m gonna test properly 🙏

    Perhaps should highlight in the heading / description that this is for Mac and not Windows. The solutions for Windows is very different and broad depending on many factors.
    However, I will say that because there is a greater selection of CPU hardware for windows that I/O issues can be a thing of the past, especially with high end processors. Intel i9 or AMD threadrippers

      Aye very good shout! I made the video before I decided on title and knocked up a title and image pretty quickly for this one! Became a dad this month so brain isn’t running full capacity 😴

    External instruments devices, using Syntakt/ Digitakt as aggregate audio interfaces, or Overbridge.

    I was running a similar Mac mini and funnily enough got an M1 Macbook from Hoxton Macs, you'll notice the difference!

      How was the max from Hoxton? Also what quality did you opt for? Fair, good or excellent?

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers Sorry thought I'd replied before, must have forgotten to send. It was all good, excellent grade and like new. Bought the Mini there too. You'll get good bang for your buck if you compromise on cosmetic wear of course, I'd trust them to have done a good job on the internals. Hope it's good for you.

    Make sure you have an audio interface that is capable of monitoring your inputs directly to your speakers.
    Here's what I do. If you set your Elektron boxes as aggregate audio interfaces they will be seen as extra audio channels by your computer, which means you can choose to send audio from your project through their main physical outs. They are very flexible like that. So I send all audio from my tracks in Live either through the Digitakt or the Syntakt which then goes into the Octatrack dual stereo ins, which then goes into my Volt audio interface with is MONITORING the ins. I have a track set to record the audio from the Octatrack, but I have it DEACTIVATED and off unless I want to record the summed audio - at which point theres technically always at least some latency, but at least all the audio shares the exact same latency amount, which is minimal, but even if it wasn't it would just mean pulling it back some.

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers Awesome! I just received my Analog Heat +FX in the mail today so I have experimenting to do. I love coming up with new workflows almost as much as making the actual music. For this, Im thinking I should use it as a return effect, then I can send select Syntakt tracks and eventually some select DT2 tracks whenever it gets Overbridge.

      @@jamesorvis_mixhackers Make sure you go into audio routing and turn "int to main" on. I also recommend turning up the usb to main gain some. According to my tests it has lower latency this way than with Overbridge, so Im interested to hear how it goes for you.

    • @formerself4372
      @formerself4372 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wouldn't you be able to do this with Overbridge? Why the need for aggregate device?

    • @HelicopterRidesForCommunists
      @HelicopterRidesForCommunists 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@formerself4372 You can, however in my testing overbridge has more latency, and also some people say theyve had stability issues with overbridge. So its another option. Also I dont think enough people are aware that you can do audio from the device and usb over audio at the same time or that you could technically send the digitakt tracks directly out your syntakt’s physical outs and vice versa from the syntakt out the digitakt’s physical outs - for example - which is just a crazy degree of audio routing flexibility if you ask me. Edit: I meant to say audio over usb

    It's not that 10ms+ is unusable but 10ms is the lowest time between two sounds played "simultaneously" that the average human ear can detect as two distinct sounds so any latency over 10ms is mainly a problem when you're trying to layer sounds like drums etc. Obviously none of this is a hard rule and this phenomenon can be used intentionally for aesthetic purposes.

      And thanks for going so in depth in this series on this setup! It's giving me a lot of ideas on how to improve my own setup!

    When I have delay compensation on, my external gear is out of sync with each other, so I just leave it off. Don’t understand why though! I’ve also found that if I don’t use Ableton as master clock, the clock jitter from external clock ruins the recording upon playback in Ableton, when the clock is obviously steady.

    • @jamesorvis_mixhackers
      @jamesorvis_mixhackers  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah that’s wierd, I think maybe you are picking up clock on the machines from Ableton? I only have Ableton listening to Digitakt 2 clock and that’s it, no more clock info goes back or forth between Ableton and machines
