I was at that premier and still have the brochure signed by James Caan. Barbra Streisand walked past me....I was on an end aisle seat....she looked beautuful in real life. Apparently, in the line up, she asked the queen why she had to wear gloves to meet her. A night I have never forgotten.
I love the look the Queen gives every time a crowd cheers. Somewhat detached...somewhat amused...somewhat "but, of course!" Always gracious. Love the Queen!

Best of all is last, Barbara greeting The Queen. Barbra looks so calm, poised and relaxed with no nervous energy. An unusual continuing serene lovely smile across her face as she chats... I forget his name, but the handsome man [of course, Barbara only went out with handsome men] behind her with the dark hair and beard was her man back then. Jon Peters - one of the biggest creeps ever to storm Hollywood, take everyone for a ride, and leave a trail of destruction. He didn't quite derail Streisand's career, but he came close. First he produced her Butterfly album, but they had to call in a professional to re-do everything he messed up. He produced "A Star Is Born", but mostly created chaos and conflict with everyone else involved. And he was, by and large, a truly rotten influence on Streisand's choices. Before Peters she had a run of good to excellent films that, even where they weren't perfect, demonstrated her versatility. In the Peters years she did junk like The Main Even and All Night Long (mostly for the money) or just didn't work. More recently he attempted to write a book that promised to peddle various tawdry stories about Streisand's past, but she managed to shut him down. Oh, and he's been grappling with a string of sexual harassment lawsuits. A real piece of work.
Watching the Queen meet Stanley Baxter makes me laugh. I wonder if she ever saw tha brilliant impression he did if her.

In a 1994 London concert , Streisand announced tongue-in-cheek to the audience that during the making of the "Funny lady" she was paid a visit on the set by Prince Charles and that the Royal Highness tried to turn her into a princess that night. That made this occasion the meeting of the the in-laws, kind of.
Barbra tells the story how British fingers wagged at her after this meeting with the queen because she initiated a conversation on why women were supposed to wear gloves when greeting others but the same wasn’t expected of men. It was something she’d wondered about, and her boyfriend at the time, Jon Peters (standing behind her here) prompted her to go ahead and ask about it. Evidently one wasn’t to initiate conversation with the queen but was to wait and see if she initiated conversation. At any rate, Barbra looked gorgeous, as usual (and the queen seemed fine with the whole interaction).

They all look very posh, especially the Queen, Barbra, and Lee Remnick. Ive just finished Barbra's autobiography. She said she asked the Queen why women had to wear gloves but the men didn't. Apparently the Queen said she'd have to think about it but thought it was just tradition. Barbra said she kind of wished she hadn't asked afterwards, but I don't think she should've felt bad. Fair question really.

Those magnificent days are gone forever. I remember hearing the adverts for that film on the radio and getting so excited about seeing it in March '75 during my spring break from 7th grade. Life was good then. But look what's happened to films, celebrities, and Londinistan since then, a real disgrace. No more musicals, and no more Jimmy Stewarts. I've wondered what happens to all the lovely gowns the Queen has worn through out her life time? This one is so beautiful. She probably doesnt wear them more than once does she?? Just wondered where they go, or what happens to them. There must be thousands by now.
