Without The Holy Spirit, no-one can grasp the Scripture's senses properly.

True. There's things I don't understand but I don't let it get to me, I know that's normal.

I agree ..blessings to you ...and also it's like when you talk with your conscious ...I feel that's how most characters in bible are doing..Moses in Genesis ...spoke to us in words what ever for example Cain in any moment thought In his head ..so when God asks Cain .." where is your brother" ? İt's like saying it to us right now in 2021? Where is our brother? The human brother? Your colleague brother? Are you standing with him when he needs it? Are you motivating him to do better in their Walk with Christ? Deep stuff

I am finishing up a 5th or 6th year on this program. I start early. Figured if Jesus could get up early to pray I could do likewise. I listen to a daily prayer/meditation app, then move to a pot of coffee. Read a daily devotion or something I like as a devotion. Then I move to my Bible in a year reading. I read more so that I normally finish cover to cover by sept. Since then I’ve started reading the minor prophets or New T books like Timothy, Peter, Jude. One book everyday for a week. I do take notes in my Bible. For the 1st time I wore one out. Gave it to my adult son as a testimony of faith. I finish by thanking God for seeing one more sunrise and pray for those in my family and others to finish my time w/The Lord.
Being retired has made this time even more precious to me.
I am praying for what God desires of me for 2021. We shall see, it will be wonderful.

Thanks for sharing this! I tend to set up intense Bible study plans and then get too overwhelmed with life and just stop completely. I really like the idea of studying and reading separately. I have a great dramatized audio bible that I listen to when I'm just reading because my mind totally wanders and I have no idea what I read. I'm inspired to start my studies again and get back into an sequential reading of the Bible in the evening.... and give myself grace when I have to alter it because of my busy life.

    • @TearUpYourBible
      @TearUpYourBible  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yep... the reading helps me to feel accomplished, while I can rest through the study processes and realllllllly receive and wrestle.

Number One - start your bible study with prayer! I can tell the difference when I pray before study and when I don't. Also - you read the bible in larger sections to get the overall sweep of Scripture- the big picture. You will pick up on recurring themes and find yourself thinking about what you read the rest of the day.
    Good video Jason!

Thank you for sharing your routine. It is so important to have a routine for Bible reading and study. My routine starts early in the morning with devotion and prayer time which often spills over into brief but insightful study. After this, as my day allows I strive to spend time in study (and I really enjoy this so much that I feel like I did not dress properly if I miss it) I also developed a journal that is advantageous to my spiritual growth (I named it GROW) where I do in depth study of just one or two verses that speak to me regarding growth issues in my life. I also have an easy read modern version that I use just for reading and plan to basically use it when traveling. I also find my digital Bibles so helpful because they are always with me and I can load any verse with notes. I’m thankful to be drawn by the HS into a delight for His word - it fills me every day. Thank you for your helpful tips and encouragement

Enjoyed your video and your plan. I am reading through the Bible this year. Only once. I figure if I can do that I am doing good. I also tend to start a study and then switch because I see something I think will help me more. As a consequence, I finish nothing and get no help. This year I want to pick a study and see it through. I love your phrase "meaningful interaction with the scripture every day". I need to take my focus off of what, when or how much and put it on "meaningful interaction". Start, Finish, Meaningful, Interact...my scripture study words for 2020. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Jason! I'm a newbie to your channel. I enjoyed your video & found myself nodding and just plain old responding so much to what you were saying. I started a Chronological year study this January 2020 in addition to my daily Devotionals. It is a challenge to stay on target.( I read alot & a notetaker.) I have limited myself to 2 Devotionals at a time (shout out to myversion bible app! Great variety of Devotionals to choose from) at a time. Listening to you has inspired me to keep going and rearrange some things for myself to gain the most from my studies and readings. I will remember GOD's Grace to me, extend it to myself when I fall short. Please forgive the long message, my excitement is showing :) Thanks again sharing your methods!

Enjoyed this! I kinda have the same routine, except my Bible study goes A LOT slower. Maybe manage a chapter a week, and I’d actually prefer to slow down even more on that. But then I feel too guilty about not getting to the rest of it, hehehe. And then I also try to memorize one passage a day, and read between 5 and 15 chapters each day. It feels a bit much some days, but I think there is great worth in soaking in God’s Word that much. I just cannot imagine God ever saying to me one day that I spent TOO much time in His Word 😄

I love this video. Right now currently I started from genesis to leviticus, jumped to revalation lol then decided to have some order or organization so i started at the new testament and am almost done then I will go back and read the old testament. At that point I would have read the entire Bible then I want to go back again once I've read it all and study it. I dont know yet how to study it. My mom, according to her friends was a beast at studying and teaching and breaking down the word, God rest her soul. I wish she was here to ask how to study it forreal but im sure with practice and guidance it will come as well. After this first read through and I start to study I may have to break it up into sections like you do here with a read time and a study time I like that alot. Alittle mad at myself for being that stubborn Christian and not wanting to read the word but its crazy because now i cant put the bible down i look foward everyday to reading and submerging myself into the word (funny my entire life I would express how much i hate reading) God's word is too Gooooood. God Bless you all love you all ❤

Just found your channel Jason. You're a funny guy and I love your passion for scripture. It's 2019 right now, and I was encouraged by your study and reading habits. I actually started doing this in January by the leading of the Holy Spirit. I'm using a 90-day reading plan to listen and read along with scriptures. I am also spending time studying the word. I started the reading plan in the Old Testament and the studying plan in the New Testament. I was trying to commit to getting through the scriptures three times this year (reading). I find it amazing how much is retained listening and reading quickly, but it doesn't satisfy that digging deeper into God's word. So the study time has been a joy also. Thanks for sharing your strategy :-)

  • @jeetkunedobrown

Thanks for the video, it is very helpful to learn how other people study the scriptures. I feel there is a big difference between being acquainted with the scriptures and really knowing it. I like to listen to the scriptures when I drive. I take a single book on a thumb drive and play it over and over in my car until I have memorized it. Then when I get to my destination, I take a piece of paper and outline each chapter without looking at the Bible. Then compare my outline with the Bible text to be sure I haven't missed anything. I outline the chapter at varying levels of detail. In some cases, the outline is just an overview of the main topics. But at other times the outline includes the main topics, the reasons or arguments given by the writer to support or justify the points he is making. This approach tends to be very slow; I spent three years just in Romans. One of the big advantages is that you understand each verse because you know the context in which it exists.

Great advice Jason perhaps a “why didn’t I think about that” moment for many people. I see a lot of people asking how to study or where to start this should help them tremendously. If you only studied you never get through and if you only read you wouldn’t get the in depth revelation. Funny you should mention the speeding up of the audio you are intense at 1.5x! I have the YouVersion App but overlooked the audio, now I can delete another app from my IPad. I recently found your channel I’m on my 3rd or 4th video, I enjoy your enthusiasm although it’s not hard to get excited about the Lord!

Reading just 4 chapters a day gets the Bible read in under a year. There are 1,189 chapters in the Bible. It’s not simply a Math problem because we read what the Holy Spirit guides us to read certain things daily. This is simply helpful if you have never read it all and want a guide.
One can of course Divide the total chapters in the Bible by whatever length of time you want to complete reading it cover to cover. I personally just found it interesting that there was only four chapters a day needed to read the entire Bible and under a year and folks say they don’t have time to read the Bible. They could read two chapters in the morning and two chapters at night or one chapter in the morning one chapter at lunch two chapters at night or whatever you needed to and in under a year you will have read every book of the Bible. That’s one method of getting it read. That’s definitely ahead of folks who never start.

Same. I also differentiate between the two: bible reading and bible study. For bible reading, I prefer to listen bible.is than youversion as I am reading. So engaging! My bible study is similar, also use logos! I use crayola pencils and pens. Once you start, 1 hour fly easily.

Jewelgrafton I have a strange schedule myself and it bothered me that I wasn’t reading as much as I could have. That’s condemnation and not from God. But God is good an idea dropped into my heart instead of reading an hour at a time break into 20 minute sessions. I can do that and it’s a start. If I let him the Holy Spirit he will teach me to become more efficient at what and how I do things which I believe will free up more time to spend with him. God bless Jewel!

Love that there is no condemnation!
I have been doing bible study and filling up notebooks. I have studied a bit of Greek and Hebrew and love the digging deep and all.
But I have not been doing the reading side of it which to me ( now ) I see as essential food for my walk of faith. I use You Version and listen to NASV. I love it!
I discovered your channel when I was looking for wide margin Cambridge bible
I studied bible at university and collected about a dozen bibles. I had 2 brand new unused beautiful leather bound bibles. They were so nice! A Thompson chain with wide margins and a Cambridge reference wide margin in a lovely brown leather with gold edges. I was busy with 4 children the youngest with Downs and autism so I was busy. I gave away lots of bibles including the two unused ones Now I have more time and am back to studying and an searching for a new beautiful bible like my Cambridge one. So searching TH-cam I found your channel.
Have been inspired by your videos
Feeling so free. Off to the shop yo buy a journal

BIBLE reading is a daily routine and not like a story book read whenever feel like it.. Relationship with God. Disciplining ourselves to literally place God first at all times and the logos becomes rayma. Amen

I read through the Bible but I also am a truck driver and I have it on tape and so I listen to it too I have problems getting through some of the Old Testament when it's three chapters of names I usually listen to that on the tape instead of reading it is that wrong

If I could have the ideal Bible it would be interleaved wide margin large print handy sized with references etc, which is impossible, so its good to see someone using a bible study method similar to mine, a little different, but who uses so many different Bibles, I have like three study Bibles on my desk, a plain reading on on my table next to my easy boy and a small plain one I take out with me and I'm always looking for that note I've made, in the Bible I haven't got at that time!

I love my Modern Life Study Bible by Thomas Nelson. It's a NKJV, but the focus points and life applications are great. I also have the Olive Tree and YouVersion bible apps on my phone set to the NIV and Message respectively, and I use those three translations together in my studies.
This type of bible is especially good if you like to do in-depth study by theme. Want to study people whose pride led to their downfall? Page 648. Want to know all the names by which Satan is referred in the New Testament and where you can find those passages? Page 1852. Alcohol abuse - Page 898. Barren women who became pregnant - Page 35.

I work full time as an auto electrician and won't let it stop me getting deeper in God's Word. I aspire to speak in assemblies on various elements and subjects and have the deepest understanding I can attain of what God wants from me, and how I can share His love and purity with others. I am heavily inspired by my grandfather, who served for many years as an elder, and has a nature that just shines light wherever he goes. He is 88 and suffered a hangman's fracture in his neck about six months ago, yet astoundingly recovered in a very short time, and puts it down to simply having faith.
Since coming back strongly to the faith last year, mostly because of a sudden and supernatural realisation that God has a plan for me and wants me to "pick up the torch" so to speak, I've gotten really into Koine Greek, and spend a bit of time every morning and evening learning some Greek. At work, I have YouVersion on my phone, and I get two twenty minute "smoko" breaks where I read through the Bible, as well as my lunch break. I haven't gotten too strongly into journalling but have a journalling Bible so I do a bit here and there. Mostly I'm just discovering little things that I fall in love with here and there when "reading analog" as I call it (just reading my actual Bible, a journalling ESV).
My church is a conservative Open Brethren assembly, where we have an hour of open worship with the Lords Supper in the last fifteen minutes of the service, and it's been amazing sharing with the other brothers, and how the random aforementioned "little things" that I feel compelled to share in open worship (any believing brother can share a passage, request sharing a hymn, or simply pray, or any combination of those things)... I don't often ask for a hymn or pray, I just like to share words, and often as soon as I sit back down another brother will stand and "It's amazing Joel shared that, because I've been reading..." and shares a passage usually from another part of scripture that really lines up with what I shared. It's truly amazing to see the Holy Spirit at work in this way. Occasionally I'll request a hymn as well, if I feel that one matches something I am sharing from the word.
I haven't plucked up the courage to pray in assembly yet, for me prayer is a private interface between myself and God, but I feel that I'll get there soon :)
