Hi Jason! I endorse what you said about studing vs reading the Scripture. In 2023, I started out to read the Bible, using the TUYB plan, and was absolutely stoked. I started with just my Bible and the reading plan in front of me, but it grew from there. Before I knew it, I had the Strong's Concordance, the Holman Bible Atlas, and about half a dozen other books opened up for my "reading time." I can't tell you the number of Online searches and videos I used as well. The notes piled up and I was accumulating all manner of wonderful minutiae, but I found myself spending HOURS on my "reading." You guessed it, I simply could not sustain that commitment, got frustrated and flat quit about two months in. 2024 was completely different. I did nothing but read during my reading time, and made it completely through and was constant. Thanks, Jason!
@@TearUpYourBible I should have also mentioned that I was active in my church, so I received about 3 hours a week of expository bible teaching. That is to say, if a fella is plugged into the body of Christ, his study time does not suffer.
12:52 Something I do as I read the Bible is highlight verses I don't quite understand. I have a specific color of highlighter that I use on verses I plan to go back and study in depth.
These were hands down the best reading of the Bible tips I've ever heard and I've come across many over the years. + You're always so funny 😂 (and straightforward and pragmatic and enthusiastic and etc. ). I haven't watched your videos for some time but I'm thinking - again - that you were definitely made to serve the Lord this way, Jason. The Lord has tremendously gifted you, what a blessing! May He continue to bless you and your loved ones. And may He continue to touch and encourage many through your ministry. Happy & fruitful New Year! ✨🎊🥳🎊🥂✨🙏✨
Btw, the thing about the number of insights was particularly insightful. I sometimes get so frustrated because there's "nothing special here", nor "here", nor... Actually it's often even the opposite, to be honest 😆 In 2025 I'm asking the Lord to be more humble (and patient) before Him and his Word, because it's not just another piece of literature and the God of the universe owes me nothing anyway, and I've already been so blessed by the insights and special moments of grace I've had while reading the Scriptures, that I shouldn't even ask for more! Just be grateful and praise Him! 😅 So a special thank you, Jason, for this particular tip. I won't forget it and will make it part of my meditation today 🥳
Every attempt to follow a plan to read the bible in a year has failed. I start with good intentions but fall behind, get frustrated and end the attempt. In 2018 I developed an Excel spreadsheet and although it goes against your advice not to do chapters I do it and I finish the bible. In my method I cycle through the new testament 3+ times before finishing the old testament. This system works me. I read a physical bible and also listen to the audio that matches my version. It reinforces my reading. So I guess what I'm saying is the bible in a year works for some but My system works for me. I also attend a mens bible study on Saturday am. My church has many bible studies to fit almost any schedule. We're doing Ezekiel then on to Daniel. I love it. Liked this session you made.
Yes, BAM has a huge, extensive selection of Bibles. Probably two or three times as big as I have found in any other bookstore. Actually even more than our local Christian bookstores. And most of them had an open copy of everything so you could flip through it and actually get your hands on it.
Thank you so much for reopening the channel. It's really a blessing to so many people! I especially liked the part when you talked about managing expectations. People need to talk about that more often. Praying for a blessed 2025 for you and your family!
Greetings from Scotland 🏴 I think Christ is calling me, my mind is always going a million miles an hour and I recently visited New York and my wife who is catholic went to a couple churches and I have never felt mental peace like that in my life, anyway I have bought my first bible and your tips will help
New to the channel! I love the analogy to reading the Bible three times to a puzzle!😜🙌🏽🙏🏽 Thank you for making this funny (manage expectations)😂😂 New to reading the Bible. I get distracted by all the reference notes. Do you have a tip for that?
Best thing to do would be get a Bible without reference notes. The crossway ESV thinline, preaching bibles and legacy heirloom are “note free” for the most part.
I think it's a great idea to write in the Bible if that's something people enjoy to do or they can just write in a notebook while reading the Bible, it makes no difference. I personally wouldn't recommend a Bible reading plan to beginners. I just personally don't enjoy jumping back and forth between different verses however I haven't started to dive deep in my studies yet. I'm doing a general reading of it.
I quite like your viewpoint - reading the Bible is a massive undertaking for a newbie. I first found a few studies to help me get a general “overview” of the narrative stories. Now I’m ready for deeper studies. Thoroughly enjoying a several-month study of the prophets. Also 1/2 way thru my church’s class on St Luke. BTW, transparent post-its are a great way to make notes in your Bible. You can remove, or update, them as you progress.
I think what he meant was, counting chapters can be a bit complicated because chapters arent all the same length. So if you do 4 chapters a day, you might end up reading two pages one day, and 4 pages the next. Im sure his plan, even if he uses chapters, it’s designed for you to read the same amount per day. If that makes sense
@@TearUpYourBible I meant what church to you shepherd? I used to live in Alabama. Talladega County. I too am a pastor. I enjoy your videos. I'd be interested in messaging as one pastor to another.
0:39 If you are being serious then this is just completely false, you don't have to trash your Bible in order to study it daily. I read mine about 2 to 3 times per day & they look to be in great condition. I've had one of them for about 6 years now.
Jason actually doesn't recommend to trash your bible but to tear it up. If you do it the right way, in just a few weeks you'll be able to take one or two books off of your bible & bring them separately to church, without having to carry the whole thing. You can leave the spine and the rest of the books at home (but we strongly recommend that you continue tearing it apart, so you're immediately ready to switch books at your pastor's notice).
@@adeodata6364 If someones Bible gets torn up from studying it then that's fine. I just don't agree with people who believe that you're not studying your Bible enough unless it's falling apart.
@@TearUpYourBible There are people who believe that you're not studying your Bible enough unless it is falling apart. I don't agree with that belief. If your Bible just happens to be falling apart from studying it then that's fine but there are also people who study it just as often and still keep their Bible in good condition.
It’s fairly egotistical of you as a professing Christian to claim that you create anything. Only God YHWH can create anything. What you did is you built/engineered a program to assist others to study the Devine Word of God. And whatever you or any of the rest of us lowly humans do, we do by the Grace of God.
Why do u read the Bible? Do u read it to boast in yr knowledge of me? Do you read it to throw at another brother or sister? Do read it to have power over a brother or sister? Why won't my children who claim to know me read my word just to hear my voice? Is it beyond yr comprehension that u will learn how I speak? that after reading "thus says the lord"enough you will be able to discern between my voice from yr own and the enemy. Now why do u read the Bible? My sheep hear MY VOICE!. I heard this in pray with the holy spirit

The Geneva Bible is old, but is amazing to read.
I also get pushback about 'just read it' separately from Bible studies 🙂

Am I the only one who caught the contradiction of “don’t read chapters, read pages” but then seeing that the reading plan is a chapters plan?
It’s not a contradiction BECAUSE that’s not what I said…
