I am a born and bred British lives in peterbrough. I havent work since i was 35yo. Now that i am 50 i dont see the point of working and getting taxed. I live modestly, dont wear branded clothes but able to save up from the benefits money i get and could go on holiday to magaluf and tennerife at least once a year. Let the kids who want to work and get taxed but for me i would rather get the free money. There is a reason why immigrants from developing countries want to move in to the UK, free money to start off their life

Peterborough was my closest City for a few years. There are some incredibly beautiful British villages very nearby just up the A605. Thatch cottages, acreage, working farms, stately homes and the like.
The city centre never had anything other than the fairly modern and well stocked shopping centre

I can confirm this I was once mugged in Luton high street at 6pm! Got a nice trip in the Ambulance! Only needed a few stiches though and I was OK. I only had £20 on me@@BackpackerBen , Another time the biggest Asian guy I have ever seen came across the road right in front of me and said "what are you doing walking in front of me you cunt". Luckily though he left me alone after saying that. One of the three lads ([I'll just say that) grabbed my wallet and I saw that lots of people were walking by so I tried to hold on to the wallet, thinking that "at least one person would do something". Answer was no -nobody gave a fuck and eventually I got punched and knocked to the floor! I was warned though "do you want me to knock you" well no not really, but I was expecting to have some help!

Luton funnily enough has one of the best bus services in england. Probably the best. With special road surfaces dedicated just for buses (to run fast). The town is okay actually, it's not that bad.
Chavvy shitholes like grantham, havant, grimsby and skegness are depressing. Especially skegness. The local trains are absolute bangers

So interesting - I enjoy your channel and this content and found P'Borough a really interesting place to shine a light on. The interview with the two lads at night was insightful and from my experience having lived in Peterborough a long time ago was on the money. I thought it was pretty bad then but to see the decline is frightening. That street with all the nightclubs used to be buzzing - 5th Avenue was the place to go - All things fade away.

    Britain is finished.
If you own property here the best move "might" be to dump it before the market plunges and jump out of the country.
If you are young and don't have much equity in the sinking ship, I'd simply abandon the place.
In less than 5 years the demographics will turn what's left into an old folks zombi zoo and let's say you won't have to visit India as they are moving India right up your street.

Although I was not born there I grew up in Peterborough. I left for Bristol back in the 70's around the time of the Peterborough development scheme. I reckon it was around that time that the place started to go downhill. Having said that I actually witnessed an armed robbery right in Cathedral Square there where you began your vlog, I was 15 years old. I lived at the end of Dickens Street mentioned in the video. There were lots of small shops around then but sadly not many remain these days. The city has become very cosmopolitan and any civic pride seems to have evaporated. 😞

I was born in Peterborough. It was my home town {I moved for my job}. It was an all white city with good employment prospects with several major engineering companies . It was a railway centre with enormous brickyards. After the war many Italians migrated to the city because it offered good job prospects. Gradually the Indian and Pakistani population grew and some area became no go. My first home was above the Lloyds bank in Millfield. I would not like to be there now. I still have aquaintances there but one doesn't hear many good things said about it. The city began to deteriorate once the Development phillistines got there hands on it.

I think it is more to do with Margaret Thatcher and her council house sell-off schemes. Council houses were sold off for thousands of pounds under their true market value so councils have had to increase business rates through the roof with the consequence that councils have gone bankrupt and the expensive business rates have driven the shops out of the High Street. Sons, daughters, grandchildren and God only knows who have bought family members council houses 'for a song' and pay no rent to the council. Either they own the house outright or they have a small disproportionate mortgage in which case the money goes in profits to a private bank rather than to a council that has legal requirements to provide essential services. It is people such as the working class on the streets of towns and cities such as Peterborough that voted for Margaret Thatcher on the understanding that they were to be given a free house. I have a friend here in Guildford who lives in a council house that his father bought for 14,000 pounds around 1988/89. Today, the same house is worth some 360,000 pounds. He has paid zero council tax for the last forty years, so where is the council supposed to raise money for libraries. health centers, fix potholes and the like? I do not understand what Tony Blair has to do with it though it is true to say that Tony Blair is a real socialist and Roman Catholic born-again Christian with a mere modest 40 million pound personal property portfolio. I wonder what Karl Marx is going to say to him as he tries to enter the gates of his socialist heaven.

I visited Peterborough in the late 1990s, it was a nice city back then. Many people moved from to London to Peterborough in the later decades of the 20th century because good quality houses were much cheaper than in the capital and there was plenty of work. The 21st century has not been kind to this city but anti social behaviour is not confined to Peterborough and Luton, it’s everwhere

I think it is simply ridiculous we voted for Brexit to get our borders back so why can the illegal immigrants not be sent back to the port of departure? France is in the E.U. whilst we are now a 'third country' France is twice the size of the U.K. it is twice as rich and it is a safe country, after all, since the end of the French Revolution, there is not even a guillotine in daily use! Nowhere in the entire world will you find so much within such a relatively small geographical area than the UK. We have it all - mountains, lakes, rolling hills, canals, flatlands, wetlands, beaches, islands, rivers and forests. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful countries on earth. We have a temperate maritime climate where weather extremes are rare [although summers are getting hotter]. We are green 365 days a year. Contrary to British whining, it actually doesn't rain all the time. It rains more in Europe, Seattle and even Sydney. We have remarkably varied architecture-ancient, medieval and ultra-modern. Castles and grand stately homes are everywhere. We have some of the world's oldest and greatest cathedrals. We have houses over 1,000 years old. We have Roman ruins and some of the world's best and most famous museums. We have multiple world famous sporting events, the world's most important football league and world famous music festivals. We have two of the world's most prestigious and oldest universities with Oxford often being voted No 1 in the world rankings. London is often voted the No.1 global city and gets more visitors than virtually every city on earth. English villages, particularly in the Cotswolds, draw visitors from all over the world. We are only 21 miles from continental Europe and all the wonders it has to offer. All this has been ruined, since 2000, by the importation of 8 million low calibre immigrants from the very worst parts of Eastern Europe, North Africa, Africa, Middle East and South Asia and beyond. Great Britain, notably England, has become an angry and dangerous third world shithole. Don't ever come here.

The money local council get gets spunked up the wall on needless projects and they forget about the public living in them , as I’ve said before I’m from the Muff also but I also lived in Corby not too far from Peterborough, little steel town where they moved Scottish down for the steelworks , then closed it all leaving a town with little work and lots of working men’s clubs 😮 I think Corby has improved due to its central location making it a great hub for businesses but social issue there remain like when I lived there

Peterborough is a good example of one of the chief reasons behind the decline of British towns. People often blame immigration or Brutalist architecture, but the real reason is much simpler: boredom. A friend of mine lived in Peterborough about ten years ago, unemployment was almost non-existent and he said that the only unemployed people either were physically unable to or didn‘t want to work. So you‘ve got a nice-looking old town centre, a growing population, a smooth economy, lots of green spaces in the city - and yet kids were smashing theirs heads in and there was an undercurrent aggressive mood. Why? There was nothing they could do. Bars, clubs, cinemas, sports grounds, community centres, even one of the UK‘s oldest shopping malls were all closed down. I remember the neighbouring small town of Ely offered a much bigger cultural diversity than Peterborough. From this video it looks like it got even worse post-Brexit, because now the economic decline is also kicking in (made worse by driving out the Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian farm labourers that used to work there).

You import the third and second world and you get the third and second world. Peterborough is Islamabad/Warsaw and has certainly suffered the killings and general crime that has brought. The last time I walked through the city centre I didn't hear one English voice. We stopped going into the city well over a decade ago. Having said that, in comparison to places like Walsall, Grimsby, Slough, Jaywick, Manchester, areas of London, and so many other places around the UK which truly are shameful shitholes, Peterborough gets a raw deal. Peterborough isn't grotty or decaying, it's just bland. The only thing it has is the splendid cathedral which is easily one of the finest in Europe. It has the largest arched doors in Europe. Most English cathedral towns are historical and attractive. Peterborough isn't. I don't know why the clubs have closed, but I do know London is so close by train that's where they all go.

I lived in Seattle, which has sadly fallen a bit in the past few decades. Similar problems all along the west coast of the states with drugs and petty crimes getting just a slap on the wrist, if that. Vandalism, drugs, and prostitution are getting worse and the subsequent collapse of the economic strength follows. Contrast that with Utah where they have annual pick ups for rubbish, swift penalties for vandals and assaults, and a focus on building up the economy and the community. No reason struggling parts of the UK couldn't adopt some of these policies.

The 'others' didn't vote to leave the EU another self inflicted wound because some people think its 'others' who are the problem. It wasnt 'others' who hiked our energy bills and caused the cost of living crisis. it wasn't 'others' who then elected as PM someone who crashed the economy in her short and disastrous term. it is not 'others' who will do nothing to close tax loopholes and offshore tax havens where the real wealth of the country can be syphoned off and hidden. We have a Lincoln Road here in Miami Beach 😂
And let me tell you it’s a complete 180°
Peterborough looks more boring than anything. I don’t know if it looks that bad though. There are places here in the US that are much more rundown than this.

He'd be better off wearing a hidden body cam and actually go to these bad areas, you'll definitely encounter some issues 😅

As with most places in the UK now, towns are being starved of infrastructure and potential. the Councils have a lot to answer for, where is the taxpayers money going to improve towns? Break down of Society and lack of funding for start up businesses to get towns on the map is totally insane. I feel this is quite deliberate to break down society. What are your thoughts?

I used to deliver methadone to Peterborough. Some of the areas were really rough. Early in the morning there's a shocking amount of homeless people.
    Paston was interesting
