We rewatched Frenzy last night. My wife made an interesting comment. She said it was totally contemporary. It could have been made 50 years ago or yesterday. That's a great tribute to the man who directed it.
Absolutely great interviewer as he knew the exact right questions to ask the master of suspense, a film director legend about his current film based on his past and the films being released at that time

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. The plot exposition discussed by Merchant and McCowen during unpalatable meals is delicious! So many Hitchcockian touches in the movie, too. When Babs leaves the pub and everything goes silent. Then right behind her, Rusk pops up. Brilliant!
His body language says he is about to keel over but those eyes projected a great deal of intelligence and focus. There was an animated brain in that failing body.
@@josephpendleton4927 a Hitchcock movie is never bad. But for me, Frenzy had all the detail and build-up and storyline that made it a truly great Hitchcock movie.
@@normadesmond6017 Frenzy has lots of interesting Hitchcock touches in it. But for me, the rape and murder sequences in Frenzy were implausible. But that's just me.

There's something about Frenzy that seems it wants to play to "modern" audiences. It's more gruesome visually, and the nudity seems forced. I'll try it again in black and white.
"I've never seen 'Straw Dogs' so I wouldn't know about that." Which is about as kind a way of dismissing such a crass comparison. We Hitch aficionados understand that with customary sublime understatement he's saying 'Straw Dogs' is shit. Indeed it is, Alfie. Indeed it is. I love 'Frenzy'. Such an underrated film, so many clever moments which draw the viewer in, a film that can engage my full attention despite age-old familiarity. Even more remarkable in that it does so without the hypnotic effect of a romantic Herrmann score. (I'm such a shameless evangelist about this: Truffaut's 'Fahrenheit 451' is my absolute favourite film even though Hitch is unsurpassed for his body of work.) The interviewer's remark about "no stars" (among the cast of 'Frenzy'): outstanding performances by Anna Massey, Alec McCowen, Barry Foster and Jon Finch - and a brilliant cameo side order of Vivien Merchant. Eureka! Jean Marsh! I popped in to see my mother today and she was watching 'The Eagle Has Landed'. I was compelled to observe - she's in a film that I like but I can't place it. The lovely Jean Marsh in 'Frenzy', of course.
@@MrHopeTelevision Well, it's a different era. I never enjoyed Psycho, tbh. Being English, I really appreciated the gritty, sarcastic London dialogue. I think it's great, to say it was one of his last movies. Nothing beats North by Northwest, though.

I love Frenzy, hugely underrated- I love the subplot with the Chief Inspector and his wannabe gourmet cook wife :)

Frenzy is so underrated I've seen alot of Hitchcock films and it's my second favourite after Vertigo.

I am a Hitchcock fan and I also love Straw Dogs. I also did not detect any sort of dismissal of that Sam Peckinpah classic.
