He explains how he sees his role as a director of thrillers like Psycho, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Notorious, The Birds, Rear Window and North By Northwest - and what his intentions are in making them. He also discusses the tradition behind his stories, the English love of a good crime story, and the clear distinction between his films and horror pictures, which he regards as "too easy" and has never been tempted to make.
