No it isn’t, I hate when people tell me I can’t put long brown things in my mouth 😡😡😡
I'm starting to get convinced food theory was made just so MatPat can eat food while classifying it as a business expense.
Nothing wrong with that
I'm jealous too lol
I’m starting to be convinced I’ve seen this comment on every single Food Theory video I’ve seen so far.
Google: how to right off my groceries on taxes
the benefits of being a theorist on TH-cam I guess
I always wondered why they never make a “double-wide” Twix, making one that’s the size of both in one bar. I wonder if there’d be a negative difference to changing the width as apposed to just the length (fun size for example)
I feel like having 2 smaller bars is a way to have less in each packet
They can do it, it will likely make them blend in with other candy bars
There is. This Easter my kids got some wide egg shaped Twix and they were an awful experience. Almost too hard to bite through and the texture was off.
I mean it's called twix ... It basically has two in name... They would prolly have to rebrand just for that...
I think less people would buy it in part because the illusion of choice is taken away and also because your brain is more-likely to tell you this is too much candy vs two smaller bars your brain is more-likely to justify it. I feel like honestly if they stopped the left-right twix marketing and did this instead it would be brand suicide.
Reminder of the best green text I've seen in a while:

To get a more accurate "crunchiness" test, you could have performed a standard tensile or bend test, basically determining how much force is required to break a twix bar (though, since twix contain some semisolid-compounds (caramel, chocolate) the strain-rate dependency of the strength would be tricky).

If the people who tasted the bars didn’t drink water or anything to get the Twix taste out of their mouth before eating the second bar, then the test would be biased because if you already eat something sweet and don’t cleanse the pallet, then the next bite will overall be less sweet.

NO MATPAT WHY DID YOU DROP THE SOAP!
I was in a convenience store the other day and I didn't buy any, but I noticed the labels of both Left Twix and Right Twix packs had different images of the candy bars. I can't remember which, but one of the packs showed a thicker cookie in the candy than the other pack and I thought, well maybe they did make each side different. I didn't really think much of it since I don't buy candy these days because it's too expensive anymore. Remember when candy bars cost only 50 cents? Now you are lucky to find any for less than $2, especially from convenience stores and gas stations.
Should we tell Mat that "Left" package has left printed on the "T" side and the "Right" package has right printed it on the "X" side? Which means that you are just flipping the package...
Time stamps?
@@Penguinrule12 5:05, 7:12
And yeah, that changes the whole "top-bottom" aspect, because the top-bottom would be relative to the word "Twix". So in the "Two Left" package, the way they're opening it, the top bar would be the one on the right.
@@Penguinrule12 you could use time stamps, or you could look at the packaging
@@godmagnus she was probably just wanting to make it easier because she didn't have one in her house and didn't want to hunt through the video to find it
I mean it's a neat little easter egg but it doesn't matter in the terms of the experiment. Either way you're just flipping the package cuz "left" and "right" are relative to how you open the package (hence why he decided early on they were gonna open all packages from the x side instead of the t side).
He knows it doesn't really matter in the end lol
I'm convinced that the discrepancy between which side of twix cascaded their caramel was an intentional choice made to confirm that both sides are identical.
Yeah definitely, they put a lot of effort in that campaign, I dont think they’d make a mistake like that
I actually saw a video on the left vs right which was very intriguing apparentally the left side has a slight dip in the biscuit to allow for slightly more caramel whilst the right was just a plain biscuit with caramel on top (i may have this backwards correct me if im wrong) i tried this myself and i noticed it as well
Now i need a quality control round where you Twix bars upside down so the left is now on the bottom, and right is now on the top
Gotta check to see if orientation actually matters

I've heard from multiple people in my neighborhood that the difference between left and right twix is the ratio of cookie to caramel. If the left was more crunchy, it is perhaps because it has more cookie than caramel than the right.
It seems like it comes down to pressure in the package honestly. The weight of the upper stick slightly affects the lower one, hence there is a bit of a difference.
Or... Is it deliberate? ;) That's one explanation for sure though. If we knew about the manufacturing process and if they were on different lines then it would stand to reason there is some kind of difference
Or that the right twix was getting moistier because it was at the bottom.
matpat you got that good now throw out the window funny 🤭😃

I'm not sure if they're doing the "two right" "two left" packaging here, but they did run the commercial with the two factories here in Germany at some point. I just found it a funny advertisement of people being ridiculous and making up differences where there are none. Even without the "pick your side" part, I never forgot about that commercial.
Same. I have never thought that's a thing in the US

MY ARM!!!
8:25 i just cant with the matpat picture holding a twix in his mouth😭😩🤣
right has a lighter feeling whereas left hits more thicker. I ate opposite and came to this conclusion due to it saying RIGHT or LEFT. If you want a thicker with a decent crunch then go left and if you want a more lighter hit with a lessened crunch go right. Regarding ice cream bars... you have a more cookie with right and more creamy and choclatey flow with the left. The question is why is the left different in terms of sound and thickness compared to the right bar?
Hey Matt, I have a theory for you! Sourdough! So I’ve always heard that a sourdough starter will change based off of the natural yeast it picks up from the air. So according to legend, two starters that were broken off from the same starter, fed the exact same amount every week, used in identical recipes, will result in different tasting bread if one of them has been living in a different state for long enough. Fact, or San Francisco marketing ploy???
Sourdough starter is alive, so yes, it changes over time, unless you try very hard to keep everything identical.
Yeast Evolution: in a thousand years, MatPat's 22-greats grandchildren are unfreezing the ancient TH-camr's yeast colony to sequence its DNA and check for mutations in their own yeast. They find that the ancient yeast has almost no genetic modification from wild Earth yeast compared to their space yeast found on Alpha-Centauri-A.
Man wrote an entire paragraph
from my little understanding, this comes from the fact that whenever you use it or its exposed to air, new wild yeast gets mixed into it and that is most definetly different locally
you would need to have a testgroup that might have been used in different states but in IDENTICAL Sterile enviroments, where the factor of newly added wild yeast could be eliminated.
if theres still a significant difference, you can chuck it up to slight differences in the origin samples taken, measuring errors or even outlandish explanations like the slightly different amount of Gravity exposure you get from being higher or lower relativ to the planets core aswell as how far away from the equator you are, which btw ALSO changes your distance to the core but also how much of the earths planetary moment you experience.
I might be completelly wrong here, i just went with my existing knowledge and intuition on this question.
btw, the plants used for the flour also make a major difference, example i experienced myself is that you cannot make a good baguette with german flour, never like the french do it, cause both countries use different species of wheat for their flour, resulting in different types of bread. havent done a good test series on this but from what i can tell, french made baguette is innatelly dried but becomes stale slower than german made baguettes, which initially are much softer and "juicier" than their french counterparts but turn stale faster! also they taste different.
I still prefer the german made version, i like my bread soft and squishy.
@@firebladeentertainment5739 Such a long essay, and such a short conclusion XD
In high school, my buddy and I did our own experiment on the difference between left and right twixes. We found that left twix tasted like they had more caramel. In the end, we were both able to identify left vs right twix bars in blind taste tests nearly every time.
That’s actually pretty interesting. Are they still identifiable today? Or have the years worn down that skill you gained in Highschool? It’s interesting how we can hone into something and notice the most minuscule of details. Kudos to you and your buddy

Its interesting because at work during my break when I didnt get a lunch. I would buy a Twix bar, and I didnt care which side whether it was right or left. and the Twix bars felt like a 50/50 on tasting more like a cookie or tasting more like a chocolate bar. I then came to a hypothesis that the 50/50 im getting is probably linked to grabbing Right vs Left. My conclusion became 100% certain that Left Twix tasted more like a cookie and Right Twix tasted more like a Chocolate bar. Looking into sources online, I found out the Twix bars recipes were placed differently. When I made a statement to a group of friends that I like Left Twix more, they said there isnt any difference.... and it made me rethink my conclusion. After buying a bag of Twix, I failed the blind taste test but I also kept them solid cold in the fridge making them both taste crunchy like a cookie... After watching this video, Im still not sure if there is a difference. Coke and Pepsi are very easy to tell the difference. But idk if the Twix bars have a distinct taste difference like that.... Its something I keep testing, but get inconsistent results
