Quite a good scale actually. A 2 on 1-1000 would be a 0 on a 1-10 or 1-100 when rounded to a whole number.

I don't think Howell hates the London System. Most Top players know the London is quite rich. It's mostly amateurs who hate the opening because they don't know how to get a game out of it.

The London doesn’t deserve its reputation as boring. It can lead to great kingside attacks. It’s up to the players. I started playing it in 1994 when I first faced it in a club game. I stopped playing it a few years ago because it is so ridiculously over-played I was embarrassed to play it
it's incredibly boring to play as white. the games are extremely repetitive

Play on the queenside, or play as in a reversed semi-slav, or my fav, play for a huge kingside attack, sort of a stonewall attack with the dark-squared bishop outside the pawn chain. if you want, castle on either side, and rip apart the black kingside. With so many options, it doesn't get boring for me.

I played the London as white and the dragon as black. If I didn’t get white, I didn’t enjoy the game at all and I lost more as black as well. Good thing I quit that game

I love playing the london, I love playing against the london.
No idea why people hate it that much to call Magnus as someone who "doesn't know anything about chess".
The London is definitely a real opening, it was used by Ding to defeat Nepo in the highest stakes tournament in chess, and was played numerous times in this year alone in super GM chess.
And no we don't play the same moves every game, how my opponents setup and their move order matters a lot and affects what I play in response.
The london can be dynamic and also positional, and it depends on how black setups against me, for example in Be7 lines I usually go for the attack very early, but in Bd6 lines I play more positionally.
Magnus can play f3 and get a good game. The London isn't bad, the one issue I see is that people who play it, once they have made all of their preparatory moves, usually have no idea what to do beyond that. I have seen countless people lose games because they have zero knowledge of pawn structure or have no idea how to play in the center after their preparatory moves. For a GM like Magnus that isn't an issue. It doesn't give you an advantage, just a playable game. And really that's all Magnus plays for. He always believes that he can probably outthink you in any position. 95% of the time, he's right. What's telling though is the sheer number of Chessable courses on the London system, and the large plethora of online players who use it, and barely ever get beyond 1600 with it.

Don’t class the Englund Gambit as an opening because it’s just ignoring black’s dumb moves, is known to be terrible and is just someone bad trying to troll 👍🏻 basically when you play d4 as white, it almost forces a move other than e4 which keeps you in the London

I play the london. I suck, but it means I can get through the opening without ending up in a losing position, well, most of the time.
It also means I dont have to spend hours learning and memorising lines.
This is why people hate the London. Its the go-to opening for people who don't really want to learn how to play chess.

I hate the London. But love to crush the players that play it, because it's quite easy to know their style/mood from their opening, so I get ready to what they are expecting and catch them on the hop. I adapt my game to every situation. I'm 2200 on Lichess.
