    Potentially dumb question, but wouldn't it make sense to put different components in different drawers, drilling holes in the bottom of each drawer to allow for cables to go between them? Theoretically, this would mean that less airflow is needed per drawer. You could put the power supply in the bottom drawer, the graphics card on top of it, and then the motherboard on top of that (using a PCIe extension cable of course). It would obviously require a lot of custom length cabling, but I think it might work better for the thermals

    • @laurentkarimbeland3813
      @laurentkarimbeland3813 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The psu is grounded if it's plugged in. However, some of the other components might not be. A metal plate, or aluminum foil, could help, it would ensure an extra path from the components to the psu/ground.

  • @whiterabbit75
    @whiterabbit75 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Easy to spot the new Dremel owner. They're the ones using a sanding drum on a cutting disk job. :P
    But seriously, if you're worried about the thermals, I'd cut two circular holes in the front of the drawer big enough for the fans to draw in air, paint the newly exposed wood- excuse me, particle board, cut out the middle of two large jar lids and cover them with window screen, put them in the holes like a speaker cover, then mount the fans to the inside of the drawer front.

    Nice job...run it on top of the desk with a board covering the top.I bet your airflow is front to back with just the handle slit for air intake which is too small. That’s why you have very little dust... mount a fan to bring air in from the gfx card side and blow it out over the power supply and you can get massive amounts of air without any vents in the back...use the card as a room divider to separate the airflow... good job overall

    Glad you revisited this. For turning on the pc you might want to have a look at this SilverStone Technology 2.4G Wireless Remote Computer Power/Reset ... www.amazon.ca/dp/B01MQUANS8/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_t1_zCTpEb7WCR7EA I use this for a htpc I have. It uses USB to power the board and has a cable running from the control board to the power button pins. Then you can power on and off or restart using the provided remote. Got it on sale for $24.99 cdn and would definitely recommend it.
