stuff like this happens through binning. These are low quality chips that didn't pass QA, so they cut them down to ensure they work as a stable, low-price card rather than deal with rma requests. Corn (and other manufacturers) may not know the capabilities of each individual chip, they tend to be bought in bulk with the assumption that the are anywhere from 5%-25% less capable than higher binned chips.

This card probably doesn't deserve another video nor a revisit, but just to add, I unlocked my own VBIOS, it's fairly easy, and with the Polaris BIOS editor you can OC the card and increase the Current Limit and TDP Limit (mine takes around 85W purely from the PCI Express slot) and it works flawlessly. Instead of flashing other cards VBIOS which come with their own set of problems you could just unlock the stock VBIOS yourself.
    And btw, great video!

To OC: undervolt the core until of crashes, step up voltage and try upping the core clock, do not touch mem. As far as i could see, mem isnt cooled so all mem should be dialed down ;) which gives you more powerbudget to feed the core

Dawid Does Tech Stuff if you look at the Wikipedia page it shows which PCIe pins are ground and 12v, you can either solder the 6 pin to the motherboard or to the card, preferably to the card so it has perfect contact (you can grind or sand down the coating to reveal the traces if needed, which is what you do with the Epower board typically after you chop the card in half, also the Epower V board isn’t very expensive and I got one on sale for like $100, so check EBay, lol!)
Then you de-restrict the power limit with Polaris bios editor then run ATImdag patches and voila you’ve got it!
Or use an X399 board, as they have a 6 pin for the GPUs on the board, the power limit should be like ~150w through the slot without any issue would be my guess.
There are other ways as well (some x16 riser cables have a Molex assist for power, though I’ve found they need foil wrapping to prevent EMI interference on the cheap $5 cables leading to sporadic instability and system crashes).

Gotta say my thanks to you for teching me the art of vbios modding and vbios flashing.
Being a bit serious now. Your demonstration of fixing that Corn RX560 was a great help for me to get my XFX RX560 4gb Double Dissipation to the right bios. Weirdly it had the bios of an RX560D (XFX RX560 4gb Wolf Warrior Edition) even though the pcb was for the Double Dissipation version (RX560 with 1024 shaders) which I noticed due to the pressence of the 6pin pcie power connector.
I was able to flash it to what it is supposed to be with no problems and I didn't experience any weirdness with power limit being hit easily or frequencies not being right.
Though in the first place I shouldn't have this RX560 as I ordered an RX550 4gb from a used seller from China but instead got this XFX RX560 4gb. Weird that I got the wrong card but not complaining since I got a better one. No idea if the seller ran out of RX550s and sent me this but they could have also confused them as they look pretty much the same being both XFX Double Dissipation version cards.

BIOS flashing is a godsend. I bought an ASUS R9 290 back in 2014. I buddy of mine told me that it is essentially an R9 290X with cut cores in the BIOS. I flashed an R9 290X BIOS onto my card and have been playing with an R9 290X BIOS on my R9 290 for close to 4 years now. the card had 0 issues. I used the ASUS R9 290X bios, not the stock or reference BIOS. There is an asus Directcu II R9 290 and 290X and for me the BIOS is interchangeable. At the time the 290X was selling for 500$ and I got the 290 for $314 from Newegg that year(2014). Saved me a PRETTY penny on that one.

So the Chinese characters on the cooler says "Jingying", which is a very interesting brand of graphics cards here in China. Their graphics cards are usually very cheap here, and you can only find them in one shop on Taobao (the domestic version of Ali-Express).
I think their RX560 retails for about 50-55USD here, so the value is actually much better. Same for all their other graphics cards. They're usually significantly cheaper than other reputable brands, but there are just quirks and cheap-outs here and there, so they've really created a (sort-of) fan base following, with another group of people criticizing it. Basically, if you buy something that works, good for you. But if it breaks, I've heard that the tech support and RMA staff are pretty unresponsive and it could take a long time to get replacement.
I've personally bought their "GTX460" back in the day, it was really weird with 384sp active, which isn't the GTX460 (336sp. 288sp for 460SE) but GTX560Ti specs. However, the GPU reads GF104, which indicates GTX400 series, not the GF114 found on GTX500 series. So it's really weird, and this was when the GTX600 series were on the horizon IIRC, so a "brand-new" GTX400 was unlikely.
Also, no one seems to know for sure where they got there GPUs from. Obviously, not being an AIB/AIC, they can't get them directly from Nvidia/AMD. Word is that they get them from some other branded AIB/AICs, but no one knows for sure. Anyways, back in Kepler days, they sold a GTX670 that actually used GTX680M (mobile) GPUs from (allegedly) some laptop manufacturer. If you look it up, the GTX680M and the GTX670 have the exact core specs, but the 680M is clocked quite a bit lower (~700MHz base) than the GTX670 (900MHz), so there was quite a bit of debate whether this much factory OC was acceptable from a stability standpoint.
So I guess is if you're looking into cheap, quirky GPUs, this seems like a good brand to start with.

Just a tip AMD graphics cards are only limited in power draw by the BIOS not by sensors on the connectors like Nvidia cards. So if you flash a 200W BIOS onto a 6-pin less RX 560 then it'll draw up to 200W from the PCIE connector.

Just open a (admin) command prompt, go to the ATIWinFlash folder and run "atiwinflash -f -p 0 file.ROM". This will ignore the mismatch and run anyway. You may need to run "atiwinflash -unlockrom 0" beforehand.

@@johnathanpearson3203 I've played with CRTs since 2000s. Played on a syncmaster and photoshopped there like there's no tomorrow. True it feels better with 75Hz up, but I wouldn't go back for the eyestrain. It also looks "fluidly delayed" as if I'm on a boat. Not going back to that. I can still play a bit from time to time for some PS2 and retro games or watching my old DVDs. I even think I ruined my eyes because of looking at CRTs for too long. Then degaussing the damn thing from time to time made my brain feel like it got reset. IPS now has, for me, achieved a nice balance of space, power, color, and brightness. If we compared average TN LCDs I would agree with CRTs with color reproduction, but not with modern LCDs like IPS and OLED.
Though have you tried plasma? If dark blacks is what you want, plasma marries CRT color and light advantages with LCD power and space advantages. OLEDs can also be comparable (see psvita gen1).
Edit: I also grew tired of the high-pitched sound it makes. I can hear when someone turns on a CRT monitor or TV somewhere and it gives me migraines if exposed too long. Back then I didn't even know how I was able to bear it until CRTs went out of fashion and I was exposed to them again. But that's just me, most people I guess don't even hear or recognize the sound.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but aren't shader cores (Stream Processors on the AMD platform) physical hardware-based cores? So by flashing 'more shader cores' isn't that like downloading RAM? Maybe the number looks bigger, but at the end of the day, it's literally impossible to add more cores. Unless of course, shader cores are logical cores (Like in hyperthreading on a CPU), or the RX560 has 'locked cores' on the chip.

IDU why GPU card makers and MOBO makers get together and put the power supply pins on the MOBO in front of card slot, so when you plug video card in to slot, it also plugs in to power pins as many as it needs to take up. They would need to seperate the extra power slot from rest of mobo circuitry.

Usually, CPUs and GPUs that have locked processors are originally a higher product with defects, a quad core with 1 or 2 imperfect cores turned to a dual core, etc... It's always better to just buy a higher product than buying a lower one and expecting unlocking to make it better, it's more of a gamble and it's not made for that.

Hi there. RX 560 Owner from the future. To anyone who owns this card or to Dawid who wanted to know why the overclock didn't go well, it's because MSI afterburner doesn't play nicely with it. You'd need to use the AMD Radeon criver software to raise the power limit and manually bump the clocks and voltage yourself. Got mine to 1469 on the core and 2000Mhz on the memory.......you're maybe getting between 11-23% of a performance increase depending on the game tho

Kinda late and you might already know this, but AMD cards are better to overclock in WattMan, Afterburner isn't an ideal utility for this. I recently bought an rx5500 xt 8gb on sale to tinker with, first tried Afterburner for overclocking and had similar weird behavior, then tried the Tuning utility in Adrenalin and it actually worked way better. If you ever revisit this card, or want to overclock an AMD gpu in general, might wanna try using the AMD software first. Mileage may wary though.

1: VBIOS editing is the only surefire way to permanently push limits on Radeon cards as there are software/BIOS/PowerPlay limits in place. Try to OC with different tools. I found that using the built-in Radeon 2020 drivers and Sapphire's OC tool gives me proper OC clocks and voltage. Increase your limits by editing the BIOS accordingly. Its just limits, not the actual running clocks.
2: Polaris likes memclocks a LOT. Polaris is also so power-efficient you can undervolt it and it still works. Therefore you should try to lower gpu voltage for that anemic heatsink and increase memory clocks based on what chips it has (I remember samsung chips are the better ones). The new Radeon drivers even lets you control memory TIMINGS not just clocks too! Polaris responds a lot more positively in the FPS and frametime department with faster and tighter memclocks.
3: Make sure to put board power to its max +50%.

I bought the Corn Rx 580 For 100 bucks, Didn't even have to flash it because it had a dual bios switch on the PCB, a simple flick of the switch let me boot the card with the stock "un modified" bios. I highly reccommend it to any one trying to pick up a cheap card!! I bought it almost a year ago, took the card apart, verified it was an actual REAL 580, it overclocks very well (as good as my other 580 I bought at microcenter). Benchmarks were good, sorry that you were irritated with your card. But the reason that they modified the card was because it is a mining card that has been flashed for power efficiency. Thats why the clocks AND TDP are limited. Corn is well known in china for being a slightly shady company, chances are they bought and then resold these gpu's from a huge bitcoin/crypto currency mining farm/warehouse. Hope this answers some of your questions about the card. IF you would have splurged and got the Corn 580 like I did, all you would have had to do was flick the dual bios switch and you would've had a fully working RX 580... I bought mine when Rx 580's were still going for 180 up to 220 USD, while I only paid 100, and performance was great so all I can say is it was a hell of a good bargain. EDIT: I just checked my email for the reciept of my purchase, and I actually only Paid $89!!

    • @baremetaltechtv
      @baremetaltechtv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Also, you can't really be that mad at Corn, at least they sold you a WORKING card that was actually what was promised on the Advertisement, Unlike scam sites like WISH.com ... Most normal consumers wouldn't even be looking at a card like this. I assume it would've taken too much labor/manhours for Corn to reflash the stock bios on these cards. They probably stuck it in a tester PC, made sure it booted, and moved onto the next card. Also, there ARE cards sold oversea's in China that are specifically underclocked and with lower TDP For the purpose of mining, and they come with that bios flashed when the card is brand new from the factory. Either you got one of these brand new cards that was meant to be a mining card, or Corn resold these from a crypto mining farm and the miners flashed the card to its current state. Either way, from what I remember when I bought mine, these cards are a great deal because they are 1. Cheap 2. Actually what they advertised them to be and 3. They WORK.
